In the new issue of Blender magazine, Mary is asked about artists that she admires and she mentions Stevie along with U2, Hall and Oates and George Michael. Regarding Stevie.... "Oh, and one of my favorite songs is "Dreams" by that girl with the rough voice...Stevie Nicks".

I saw her hugging Stevie at the Divas Las Vegas thing where Stevie sang "Landslide" with the Dixie Chicks and later performed "Wear My Ring Around Your Neck" right after Mary J. performed in that Elvis tribute medley.

It's ironic because the first time I saw Mary perform about 10 years ago, I said she kinda reminds me of Stevie, she was crouching and very very passionate and now this who knew!!!

Yes, and I like very few singers, but she's definitely on the list. Her voice is distinctive, like Stevie's - and personally, I think it's kind of harder for a voice to be very distinctive in the R&B style. And she's exceptionally passionate, like you say.

I'd been reading Edgar Allan Poe for years before I got into Stevie. Then when I found out she liked him too it was ... spooky! Now I see how she might view him. It's interesting to spot similarities.
