Thank you everyone, you're all so sweet. My b-day was okay but my friend Danielle invited me out and some of our friends kind of hijacked the plan and we went to this dive we did not really like. My friend Chris left early too, that bastard. Then I learned my uncle died. I guess it wasn't the best birthday. However, I think its going to be a good year! Plus my Mom and brother took me out last Sat and that was awesome. Thanks again for thinking of me y'all, it means alot. Amber, you're always there with the birthday thread! :)

I just have to say something here - and I am the official proprietess of birthdays (( )) - When you go out with friends for your birthday, you get to do whatever you want. Compromise if you feel like it, but if not, you must proclaim "Hey! I'ts my birthday! I want to stay in this cool bar!" Or, if you decide to go to the dive bar, and it sucks...you must pout and say you want to go back.:woohoo:

For example: My friend Rain takes me to the river every time I visit Chico for my birthday/4th of july weekend. 2-3 days. She doesn't even like the river much - she's very pale with freckles everywhere, and she doesn't like to swim in water, just dive into it then get out. So you see her sacrifice? (her kids love it, though). But - we had to leave at 4-5 pm because each day we had parties to go to afterwards. I like to leave at 7 ish, the evening at the river is the most spectacular time. So what did I do? I pouted for a few minutes in the car on the way back, and said things during the day like "couldn't we be late to the party?".
And all was well, it's the natural order of things. I hope that example helped you understand birthday protocol, perhaps you should share it with your "friends" so next time they will understand the proper course of action. An Aries should be at least as self centered as a Cancer for their birthday.;)

I'm going to make up a superstitious old wives tale right now:
If your birthday sucks, you will have a great year.
Let it be so....

oooo, it worked! You're going on a trip to Kenya! Yay, I'm magic!!

Well, I missed wishing you Happy Happy Birthday on time, but Happy Birthday a day late. I am sorry about your Uncle. As others have already said, I hope the coming year is wonderful.

**Not that any of this is on the scale with losing a loved one... I had a spate of bad birthdays that included parents fighting (leaving me alone with the cake) or later breakups, and bad news. I lowered my expectations for while for the birthday fun, and now it seems like the last few years of B-days have been pretty swell. Oh yeah, and one of my friends has her birthday on September 11.

You're right Amber. By the time I pulled the "it's my birthday" card most people had gone home. Wusses. We went on to The Salty Dog which is a great outdoor bar in Faneuil Hall and I had fun there for like 10 minutes until I picked up my voicemail. My family could've waited to tell me if they'd had half a brain. Sometimes they just don't think though. My aunt left a message saying "Happy birthday, I guess your dad probly told you about uncle Joe, arrangements, etc..." Dumb. Judgement is not their forte. At least my Dad just left a message that said "Call me".

Hopefully next year no one will die on my b-day. I'm going shopping today and sort of pretending it is my extended birthday :) I'm working from home and it is perfect outside which is great. I've got the window open, life is good.

On Sat I totally pulled the "it's about me" card with my Mom who was going on about how she should be included in celebrations with my Dad (they are divorced). I have talked to her about that at length saying how that's her issue and they need to work it out. But she has to pull me in. Then I got all upset. She's like, "I always feel left out." I'm like, "Mom, why are you making my birthday about you, it should be about me!" Just call me Miss Sassafrass! She got the message and was a peach for the rest of the day. So I totally pulled an Aries egocentric fit right there.

Kenya is just a few weeks away now! Wowza!!! It blows my mind.

Aww, sorry to hear about those bad birthdays. My worst one was 16, it snowed, my boyfriend refused to come over and did not buy me a present. What a loser.

Well okay then! (Suze)

My friend's parents forgot her...12th birthday, I think. Then when she said something at dinner, they tried to cover and be like "oh, but we just wanted it to really, really be a suprise!" I think those were their coke years....

One time - on my 22nd birthday, I believe, all these people in my apartments (a big house separated into three apts) were mad at me or friends with someone who was mad at me - I had cheated on my bf who lived downstairs, with my roomate who lived in my appt, and his girlfriend's best friends lived in the back apartment - anyhoo - I had left my laundry in overnight, and I woke up on my b-day to find that all my best summer clothes (the delicates) had been bleached. Yeah. Looks like someone gave Karma a helping hand on that one....

That sucks. On my 21st birthday my BF did not have a gift for me because the jewelry store would not accept his credit card. He didn't get a card either. And he showed up all pouty like I had to feel bad for him. Then it took like 3 mos for him to give it to me. Why did I wait 7 more years to leave him? :distress: He was nice in a lot of ways, just let me down when it was important.

Omigod! I had this really bad bf who didn't get me anything for my bday (25?) and all I said was that I really wanted to go see the South Park movie b/c it came out on my bday. Anyway, I guess he felt guilty for not getting me anything or going to the movie with me, so he started a fight with me instead.
To be fair, he is crazy.
