Okay. This will sound wierd, but it's really not. LOL
I am contemplating on going to Philadelphia to see Justin Guarini...again. Here's the deal. He was in a movie and they are having a party and we (his fans) were invited by the guy who made the movie because we love and support Justin. There will be a great buffet, drinks and Justin is going to sing and will be at this party for 5 hours. Some of the gals on my J board are going and it sounds like a blast.
Should I go? It's $100 to get into the party, but Sal (the director) says Justin fans will get preferred treatment in regards to photos and stuff with Justin. I have to find airfare and a hotel (think I found a good one close by).
The reasons not to go: Ummm....errrrr....welll......hmmm....just saving about $1000 - 1200, I guess. LOL

I made a choice back in 2003 to go and see all the artists that I wanted to. To absorb as much from the music as I could. It's cost me a of a lot of money and left me broke at times but it's been a hell of a ride. Plus I have the peace of mind that I did it!
Before 2003 I saw the following live :
The Cult
Guns 'N' Roses
Peter Green Splinter Group
Between 2003 and 2006 I've seen the following live :
Peter Green Splinter Group (again)
Fleetwood Mac (4 times)
Peter Gabriel
John Mayalls Bluesbreakers
The Crickets
David Gilmour
Brian May
Paul Rodgers
Ronnie Wood
Hank Marvin
Albert Lee
Gary Moore
Mike Rutherford
Paul Carrack
Phil Manzanera
Amy Winehouse
Jamie Cullum
Theresa Andersson
Mark Knopfler (twice)
El Presidente
Jamiroquai
African Children's Choir
Annie Lennox
Bob Geldof
Coldplay
Dido
Elton John
Joss Stone
Keane
The Killers
Madonna
Mariah Carey
Ms. Dynamite
Paul McCartney
Pink Floyd
Razorlight
REM
Robbie Williams
Scissor Sisters
Snoop Dogg
Snow Patrol
Stereophonics
Sting
Travis
U2
UB40
Velvet Revolver (twice)

If money is no object in your life, go for it. BUT, if you are sweating it, don't do it. $1200 is a lot of money for "pictures and stuff." I know you are a big Lindsey fan. I think you should hold out just a bit longer. I think something will be coming. Someday. Maybe in the form of Lindsey solo, maybe in the form of FM, but $1200 is a lot of money for most people.

Is it that we have reached the 3rd decade of our lives and that's why we want to do things we wouldn't do before? I dunno. When I turned 25, I had a life change and feel like I sleepwalked until then. LOL Now, turning 30 in less than a month, I want to do things without regret.
I love your new outlook into seeing as many concerts and artists as possible.
Oh, did I mention I'll get to meet Abe Vigoda too! :blob1: LOL
Tango...money isn't really an issue. I mean, I can be a penny-pincher at times, but it's not that. I spent WAY too much cash in England, but I don't regret one cent of it. I do regret not taking better photos. LOL I have a new camera, so next time! I just hate making decisions is all. Sometimes, I feel like I make wrong ones.
I will be going to see Lindsey as much as I can when/if he tours! Count on that!! If I have to sell a kidney and be a surrogate mom!! Okay, just kidding about that.
I've been a Justin fan almost as long as I've been a Lindsey fan. Through good, bad, BS and crap. Lindsey came along in 2001, Justin...2002.

Yes, the end of the world.... And I think Lindsey has a tentative release date soon after that.....

Hit the nail on the head there.
Time accelerates once you hit 30. You gotta cram as many experiences in as you can from now on. Enjoy the wonders of the planet Christy. The feeling of time we had in the 20's is history. In the words of Roger Waters :
"Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun"

Well that's a helluva lot of money. If it makes you happy, then do it. It's ONLY money right? haha. Have you met Justin before? If so, I'd reconsider, but whatever.

Exactly. It's a weird feeling when you sit down and go "WTH have I done?" "Where is time going?!" "What are my memories?" You really do feel like you've been....asleep or zombie-like, don't you? For me, it's that way.
Seteca and I have discussed this too.

Yes, twice, actually. It's not just meeting Justin again. There are some fans I would like to meet up with and also, I've never been to Philadelphia and want to stay for the weekend and check out the town. :) A mini-vacation with some Justin thrown in for good measure. ;) If I were to just go up for that one night thing, it wouldn't cost that much...but the fact I wanna stay for about 3 nights and see Philly. I was just approximating the $1000 - $1200. I'm putting cabfare, eats, shopping, sights, and the $100 ticket in there too.

well, I'll tell you this. I had these exact same thoughts about Vegas last year and NOTS this year. I could have all but one of my bills paid off with the money I've spent/will spend. then I thought, you know what, wtf am I thinking? the thought of traveling, shopping, eating good food, seeing new things and a little Stevie sprinkled in makes me wet, so I have not thought twice about it. you only live once.

Well, I've never been, but I guess the Liberty Bell would be an obvious choice. I was going to suggest looking into youth hostels if money was one of your issues, but you already booked your hotel! Hope you have fun!

Liberty Bell is most def on my list of things to see...along with Love Park and the Museum of Art. I HAVE to run up the steps like Rocky...it's mandatory. LOL Never have seen the movie, but I am familar with that scene.
Youth hostels. {shiver} LOL I'm staying at a Bed and Breakfast along with another lady from the JG board. (Not in the same room, though) Got a great deal through expedia.com. :)

Yeah Christy! I am sorry but I just saw this thread now. I worked yesterday. I was going to tell you that Southwest air is having a big sale until Monday at midnight and that they do serve Phily.
You know that I would have done the same to see Lindsey!
Phily is a beautiful city but I still have not had a chance to explore it that much. When are you planning on going?
wondergirl9847
04-09-2006, 11:10 AM
I've booked through expedia for US Airways, but I just checked Southwest out of curiosity. It's about the same price roundtrip as the good deal I got. I had no idea SW went to PA!
Coming home, I'll be on an Embraer-145. Holds 50 people. I'm a little freaked out by that, since it's the smallest airplane I've flown on and I'm a nervous flyer anyways. I may have to take a valium or something.
I'm going over...Memorial Day weekend. LOL I could have left like Tuesday and come back Friday, but I wanted to be there at the same time as the other ladies going. We are planning something fun for the other board members, so it should be a blast!
Michele, I'm not the most spontaneous person, but like I was saying to MFM...I guess it's an age thing. LOL I'm not married, no kids, live at home with my dad.....don't get out much. So, this will be cool. :)

Hey, Christy....
I live right outside philly, and work there almost every day. Where is the Justin party?
Are you interested in historical sites more, or just wanna hit the biggies, like the Liberty Bell. There are actually several things right around the Liberty Bell that you could see within a couple hours. I've done it with my 7 year old several times.
There are several hot bars and areas to go to for drinking I can try to advise you on.
I'm not sure where the Rocky statue is anymore. It used to be at the Art Museum, then it was moved to the Spectrum. I kind of thought it was still there, but I know someone else mentioned the Library. I can try to find out if you want.
Let me know what kinds of things you're interested in seeing, and I'll try to help.
Do you know where you're staying yet?

The party is at Galdo's. Have you been there and do you know how big that place is?
I would love to see historical stuff (Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, etc.), and I think we are going to do the Trolley tour. Where is a good place to get in some shopping?
We are staying at the Society Hill Hotel. Did I make a good choice? I've read some great things about it....and some not so great.
I don't drink, but any food suggestions would be good. I might try a Philly cheesesteak. Where are the best ones? I don't really like steak, but I'll try it.

I'm not familiar with Galdo's, but I'll ask around at work and see what I can find out for you.
Things to see in and around the Liberty Bell are, Independence Hall, which you have to get a pass for, and they do sell out. The Liberty Bell Pavilion dumps you out right in front of Ind. Hall, but you have to get the tickets in a different location, I believe. I think they're free, but they limit how many people go thru. A couple blocks away are Ben Franklin's grave, his homesite with a frame where his house used to be so you can see how big it was and where rooms are, first US Post Office, Betsy Ross House (which coincidentally is right next door to the building used by Real World when they were here). The new Constitution Center is right there, too, and right now they have a Ben Franklin Exhibition going on. Not sure how long that runs for. The trolley tour is a nice idea, because I think it takes you up to the Museum District. I've never done it, but I have done the carriage rides around the Ind. Hall area. Yes, I feel bad for the horses, but the drivers usually have interesting tidbits of info.
For cheesesteak, it sounds like you're going to be fairly close to South Street (big party district), so you could hit Jim's Steaks. The famous ones are Pat's and Geno's in South Philly. You could take an inexpensive cab ride there. The place I like to go is Tony Luke's, which is a bit further. Now, to make sure you don't sound like a tourist :wavey: you should say "Cheesesteak with" or "Cheesesteak without," which means with/without onions. And add on your cheese preference: Whiz, Provolone, American, etc. (Technically, it's "Cheesesteak wit" if you have the right accent  )
Society Hill is a great area. Again, not familiar with that hotel, but I'll check.
I'll think of some good restaurants and get back to you. The Capital Grill is supposed to be good. I haven't eaten there, but my husband has, and he said it's good.
What kind of shopping are you looking for? Walnut Street west of Broad St. has nice stores. (Williams Sonoma, Banana Republic, Bebe, Mac, Kiehls, Tiffany's, etc.)
Let me know what other questions you have. I'll get back to you on the hotel and Galdo's.

Well, Christy, I know how much you like Justin  & I don't blame you for going. I'm always going to Philly to the Wachovia Center for concerts. I've been to see the Phillies once at their new stadium & I'm a big Eagles fan though I haven't been to see them yet in their new stadium. I've never really seen downtown Philly except on TV or in the movies (Rocky). I've always wanted to see it though. Oh well, maybe someday I will. He's working on a 3rd album too with more "radio-friendly" R&B, pop, club, etc. tunes. The jazz album was a unique deal since he loves jazz so much.
Restaurants are important to me too because I'm so picky and can't just walk into one and eat. I have to know what type of food and if they have chicken in case I don't like anything else on the menu.

Oh that Cheesecake Factory was so good. The service was good and they did a good job with our large group, aside from splitting some of us up. Okay, that part not so good but it was because of how busy they were. They have excellent chocolate Martinis! It really didn't seem like a chain restaurant, it was excellent.
The asian place I went to with Tiff and Anita doesn't seem to be there anymore! It was really delicious, they had the best sushi. Here's a link that shows Caesar's restaurants http://www.caesars.com/Caesars/LasVegas/Dining/
