I've been asking myself for a long time now.
Middle 40's, it started when i was 14. Are there any famous people who are ledgies like us? A few i know, like Dixie Chicks, Sheryl Crow and addict Courtney Love. But who else?
I know that Mike Oldfield is very found of Lindsey and his playing. In an 1980 interview Mike was telling all about the creativity and his way to slip his voice 'round Stevie and Chris. And that he made a show, comparing to what the Eagles did. Oldfield quates "what the Eagles do is tóóó perfect. It lookes like a videoshow, no than Fleetwood Mac, you feel the vibes. That is Live and people enjoyed that.
Second example is the singer composer Pacal Jakobsen from the band BLOF. A Dutch quartet who played also with counting crowes. He's impressed the way Lindsey pluckes it's snares.
Who are the other famous fans and what are they telling 'bout the members?

Billy Corgan and James Iha both are fans. Elvis Costello is a big fan (of the original group, that is). Obviously the Beatles were fans, at least of "Albatross."

Well, that's certainly depressing to read in hindsight.

Don't know for sure but I would guess Waylon Jennings had some appreciation being that he covered "Rhiannon" and "Leather and Lace".
I always thought it was so cool when Sheryl Crow first starting getting popular and her admission of being a big FM fan, especially Christine.
Speaking of the Dixie Chicks, I loved Lindsey's response to their version of "Landslide".... he basically just said, "I'm happy for Stevie".

Recently he did mention that he was very interested in the Mick Fleetwood book. Source was Veronica magazine 1 or 2 weeks ago.

U2 - she has had parties for them before - like because of Jimmy Iovine

did they actually write These Dreams? for some reason I thought it was offered to Stevie first and then offered to Heart

You're right. These Dreams is credited to B. Taupin and M. Page...
Oops
Mea Culpa~
Also-
Until this album, Heart wrote most of their songs. In 1985, they signed with Columbia Records and got help from some experienced songwriters. This was written by Bernie Taupin (Elton John's lyricist) and Martin Page. Around the same time, they also wrote "We Built This City," which was a #1 hit for Starship.
This was offered to Stevie Nicks, but she turned it down.
Nancy Wilson had a nasty cold when she recorded her vocals. The producer liked the raspiness in her voice, so they kept it. (thanks, Edward Pearce - Ashford, Kent, England, for all above)
In 1985, MTV had been around for 4 years, and it was clear that music videos were very important. Along with "What About Love" and "Never," this got a lot of airplay on MTV and introduced the band to a new audience.

I doubt that some of these people being listed were or are fans. Their paths just happened to cross -- or something in their professional lives mixed with Stevie Nicks or the band as a whole.
I mean, Jose Eber spent a few months playing around with Stevie's hair. Does that make him a Fleetwood Mac fan? I saw him walk in late & walk out early at one of her shows at the Forum. How do you know he wasn't there just to mix? A lot of stars go out to concerts just to mix. It's hard to say whether a particular star is a fan of the group unless that star has actually said something like "I love them" or "I listen to them all the time" or "I love this or that song."
The Janes Addiction vocalist, Perry Farrell, said a few times to the press that he liked Lindsey or Fleetwood or something, & I think he was in the Dance audience. I still don't know whether he's a fan.
John Stewart is (or was) a (somewhat) famous person who was (is?) a big fan of Fleetwood Mac. He has talked about the band's music (not about their clothes, as Courtney Love did) many many times. It's quite obvious he listened to Mac's albums & knew those albums very well. He was influenced by the band members in numerous ways (playing, songwriting) & even covered some of the band's material in concert. That's a fan. John Stewart is a fan. He's like us ledgies.

Well, they get the anthemic part down. And certainly Hill & McGraw are better, more technically powerful singers than the Macsters, so that provides a little energy there. But all in all, you're always aware it's a sort of hamfisted cover with little genuine passion driving it.

I can't find the article, I had those quotes saved on my computer, but I remember he was talking about the song Dreams and how cleverly phrased it was, and how the use of rhymes reminded him of Bjork, or something like that.

I think comparing the two borders on insane, except if one was to say they were both female and both in the music business. Bjork has been making music since she was a teenager in the seventies and even then, she was always trying different stuff. I'd have to hear or read why he thinks Stevie surpasses Bjork "in artistry" to really understand what he was trying to get at, because from that one quote, he sounds off his rocker. lol

"Leather and Lace" was actually written FOR Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter. I see a listing for it but can't find the exact disc (my bro is the big time Waylon fan), perhaps on Jessi's cd called "Leather and Lace".

"Leather and Lace" was actually written FOR Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter.True, but chili was referring to the old story Stevie tells that she wrote it "to order" for Waylon & Jessi, but they broke up & stopped singing together before they recorded the song, & Stevie didn't want Waylon to record it by himself because she wanted it sung as a duet between a man & a woman.
I wasn't aware that Waylon or Jessi ever recorded the song. If you find out anything about that, let us know here. Maybe someone can post it, too.

I remembered reading the article, too, in Salon. I have posted the excerpt, but it is an interesting article, read the whole thing here
http://archive.salon.com/ent/feature/2004/05/01/magnetic/index.html
Later we were talking about Björk, and I mentioned how innovative I thought she was. Merritt looked a little incredulous and asked me what I was talking about. This should have been easy for me: first of all, the idea that Björk is an innovative force in popular music is widely accepted; secondly, I'd written about it already. But feeling tongue-tied, I stammered for a moment, and then said something about the way she used non-rhyming lyrics, and strange, twisted phrase structures that were rare in popular music. This unleashed a minor tirade, albeit in the same monotone voice, with just an extra touch of pedantry.
"Non-rhymed lyrics have been around since Milton. Most of the blues, much of folk music, especially outside Britain, half of Madonna. But what makes you think that non-rhyming is interesting or revolutionary? And as for her unusual phrase structures, it's actually just rambling, and because of her rambling, I don't tend to remember her songs. There's a reason for repetition, which is that it's an aid to memory." Then adding what could be the opening of a Stephin Merritt manifesto on music, "I think formlessness is not the way to go in popular music. More form, I think, is the answer."
Suitably chastened, I moved onto the safe and completely non-Björk-related topic of drummers, I received this spectacular run-on: "One of my favorite drummers is Mick Fleetwood, who keeps incredible time, but is always doing interesting variations on the beat, and in the most repetitive songs, he never seems to play exactly the same thing twice, and yet he sounds very simple, so I think he's a genius, which brings me to demolishing your Björk thesis with Stevie Nicks, and the song 'Dreams' off of Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumors,' which rhymes, if at all, only every 30 seconds."
Merritt starts humming to himself to double-check how often it rhymes, then adds, "Maybe when she feels like it, there's a rhyme tossed in. It's a very rambling melody, yet quite beautiful, over a simple two-chord progression." Then, with deep sarcasm and great pleasure, "I would say that Stevie Nicks is an important precursor to Björk, perhaps surpassing her in artistry."

It does, although I think he is really saying he appreciates "Dreams" as a pop song. And of course he enjoyes the discomfort he gives to the interviewer with his comment about Stevie Nicks being a precursor to Bjork. He is a little self-important, but he is able to craft a sweet pop song.
