I jut thought I'd start this cause I was listenint to the version from Baton Rouge, 8-30-78 that's over 10 minutes long, and it's far and away the best live version of this song I've ever heard. Any of you have your own favorite live versions of GDW?

Favorite Fleetwood Mac version: From 1994...I LOVE that incarnation's take of the song

Favorite Stevie Nicks version: From Sheryl Crow's "Live In Central Park"

Favorite Non-Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks version: Waylon Jennings & Willie Nelson's cover

. . . Favorite Stevie Nicks version: From Sheryl Crow's "Live In Central Park"

She positively smoldered and smoked in that rendition. AND - I love that she did the studio version of GO HOOOOOOO OOOMMMEEEEE OOOHHHHOOOHHHHHOOHHHOHMMIUUUUUMMMMMMEEEEEEEE

I just wonder why she doesn't even come close to doing that with Fleetwood Mac? I think the reason why I like that version the best (of ALL) is because Sheryl's band PLAYS it like I wish Fleetwood Mac would play it (the dynamic quality, I mean). Fleetwood Mac has really smoothed out the peaks & valleys of the dynamics of the song (beginning with The Dance version)

and it was pretty good - it was sort of weird though to hear that song in a literal sense or at least from a smoewhat literal singer.

I know. Interestingly, I think in the Tusk live outtakes, she does the same sort of smoldering version, except she is more in a trance and sort of hunched over the mic. and singing in this impossibly high for her voice.

For me, the problem with all of The Dance was the songs were slowed down to accomodate IMO the age of the band, etc., and GDW, which to me is a song of great nuance, suffered from that perhaps the greatest, though GYOW was a tad painful to these ears as well.

Then it must have been the Rumors tour, but the footage is in the Tusk live outtakes. I am confused. It was def. one of the Japanese performaces - the one where La Nicks is WASTED backstage and CM makes the hysterical, friendly crack about if you want to know what it is like to be a sex symbol, you should ask Stevie Nicks laugh laugh laugh

Favorite Stevie Nicks version: From Sheryl Crow's "Live In Central Park"What tickles your little pretty about that one? All I hear is just a big bland backup & a listless, boring Stevie Nicks vocal typical of her Third Period.

It's indistinguishable from countless other GDWs on the 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004 & 2005 tours. I think you're just being perverse -- but you're not being perverted! :blob1: :blob1: :blob2: :blob1:

Yes that's the Rumours Tour. That's the final eight or ten days, in fact, of that tour.

Problem is, Stevie's vocals were pretty drugged-out-drippy-doodle-woodle hinkie-dinkie-parlez-vous by that point. She sang as if she had a staf infection or an inflammation on her mouth or lip, trying to restrain motor movement out of pain or something. I think her tour doctor shot her mouth or jaw up full of painkiller, so she sang all her songs -- Rhiannon, Dreams, Gold Dust Woman -- like Gloria Grahame singing in Oklahoma & not moving her mouth.

But of course the band's playing was slinky & winky & kicky & dicky: the interspersal of FX on pianet with Gibson Les Paul with undulating, cobratastic bass line all created mystery & history & herstory & gory-wory.

How lame is this? I just got a new cell phone and am like GD whatever it comes too, I MUST have a kick ass SN ringtone (that stuff usually doesn't matter to me, but this new phones ringtones sucked...) so I find one. It's polyphonic, but because it's instrumental, it sounds pretty damn good. It's GDW ofcourse. Since then, I have had it majorly stuck in my head, and have been re-discovering all of my GDW versions. Currently the one I favor most is the HBO special Bella Donna era. Not as witchy and amazing live as several of her others, but she's sorta trance-like, and I like the delivery of it.
Hands down, best version though IMO is the Japan 77. LOVE that damn one. It is so amazing!!!!!! Anyway, that's my dumb "in the life of me" info for today.

I found a program a while back where you can upload songs and select the 10-15 second portion you want as your ringtone. I can't remember the name of the site, but go to the Stevie forum and search. I think it was 10 dollars for a year or something. It's awesome. I have tons of Stevie REAL music ringtones now.

GDW has always been ok to me until I saw it on the TISL tour. Maybe David or ChiliD could appreciate this. I just thought the musical arrangement was so good. I really liked Brett's keyboards for some reasons. There are a lot of noises in the beginning that sound really spiritual and interpretive. When I was there..i loved that riff...the famous riff to the song..you know the one in the beginning and between each lyric.

That is the only GDW that had ever really struck me. But I do like it in general and I like seeing it live...today.

Personally, I can't distinguish a TISL GDW from an Enchanted GDW from a Gold Dust GDW from a Millennium GDW (although I can spot a Mirror GDW at fifty paces).

However, I can distinguish down to the city & date all the GDWs on tape from 1977 to 1986.

So those are (or were) important to me. But the ones that move YOU the most are the ones that you should LOVE LOVE LOVE, right? let your preferences be your guide through the miasma that is love & light & Fleetwood Music. :blob2: :] :blob1:

Peter, my guess is that's either Storytellers (I think it is) or the rehearsal audio that Jim Ladd played when he broadcast his 1998 Innerview with her. (He also played After the Glitter Fades.)

No no no no no no no, Peter. I don't mean rehearsal from Storytellers. I mean the rehearsal for the Enchanted Tour. Don't you remember that Jim Ladd's 1998 interview with Stevie featured two rehearsal songs: After Glitter Fades & GDW?

But I just don't think it's that, either. It's her solo band. Hmmm...it's gotta be that tour rehearsal. What else would it be? There were five or six tracks broadcast for the 2001 show in San Francisco, but I don't remember GDW being one of them. Besides, that wasn't a small crowd. This is a small crowd. Are you sure it isn't storytellers?
