View Full Version : Things you never use

Are there items that it seems most everybody else uses, but you don't? A few weeks ago we had a party at work & they asked one of my coworkers to bring in a couple of loaves of French bread. She had no clue what "French" bread was or where to get it. Then I thought about it - she's from India & makes her own bread, why the hell would she ever need to buy a loaf of bread?

I never buy/use:

Canned veggies (only fresh or frozen)

Store-made salads (pasta salad, macaroni salad, etc.) Gross

Coffee (we don't drink it. I'll but it for company if I have to)

Donuts, cakes, pies (why bother? It won't be anywhere near as good as homemade, so why waste the money & calories?)

Fabric softener or bleach (I've never used either)

Nail polish (haven't done my nails in a few years. no idea why I stopped)

35mm film (since I got the digital, I haven't touched my 35mm camera)

dryer sheets - I buy them, I like them...why don't I use them?
carpet sprinkle stuff - I hate it...to me, it ruins your carpet and doesn't really deodorize or clean
floss - I know I should use it and I know I'll probably regret it and I do floss occasionally, but it's just something I can hardly bring myself to do
dishwasher detergent - I wash everything by hand; I'm a nut like that
hand sanitizer - I don't like it; I tend to carry baby wipes and use those rather than rely on any alcohol-based cleanser

I'm sure I'll be back with more as I ponder a while...

I never floss either! I've never had a cavity or any dental problems, so I must be doing something right!

I never use a blowdryer.

Cotton Balls. What are these for? Other people have jars filled with these. Why? What do they accomplish? What is the point of the cotton ball?

I don't use a coffeemaker.

I never, ever listen to the radio. I am strictly CDs. I can't stand the annoying DJ banter or the commericals. I don't even know how to use the radio in my car!

i never buy prepared foods at the grocery store either (those salads make me gag)

i never buy bleach

but i would go nuts without fabric softener

i don't buy those spray cleaners (like kitchen fantastik) to clean counter tops and such. i use warm soapy water.

never use bars of soap - i'm all about liquid soap. for hands, for the body in the shower, everywhere.

never buy hair products other than shampoo and conditioner

there are probably many more.... but i just got home.. and i'm a little tipsy and a little tired...

Make-up and hair ****. If I'm not ready in 10 minutes, I head out anyways. I hate the way it feels and I don't have a patience. I fear the day I get old and ugly and have to wear it.

Soap
Deodorant
Toothpaste
Shampoo
Razors

Kidding. Who am I? Paula Cole? LOL

We have a dishwasher, but I do not use it. I wash all the dishes myself because it's just me and my dad. We need to get rid of it.

I don't use hairspray. I don't wear makeup (even though I own some) unless I go out...which is not often. Even then, it's very little and I HATE wearing makeup anyways. Makes my face feel dirty. LOL

I don't use a brush. I have a comb for my hair.

I VERY rarely use my hairdryer. I think it's better to let your hair air dry.

ITA! Never could get used to the concept. And I'm just as confused by those women who are obsessed with checking theirs every 2 mins.
Especially the ones who would put Krusty the Clown to shame.

OMG I do the same thing. They all say here is 'wethead" when I come in to work in the morning. I do put mousse in my hair so that it does not frizz all over the place but I don't use hair spray.

Paula, I used to paint my nails every night to match what I was going to wear the next day. I also rarely left home without my face but these days I never ever paint my nails or wear any make-up. I am just too lazy lately.

I am another one who does not use floss. I have a coworker who was freaking out a few weeks ago because they ate popcorn and did not bring their floss to work.

Well, I use ziploc bags (or the Target brand of them) to put CDs and DVDs in when I send them out. I have not much use for them otherwise.

Yet another thing I don't have patience for.

  Sorry Paula, I think I misread the start, I thought it was things that you buy and then go ...huh??
There are many things I could put on this topic
I buy them, I think I will use them but they just take up space everywhere...
-capers I love to cook any many recepies ask for these..but I never use em
-work-out CD or the excersize ball thing (Oh yeah I sent away for one of those..it's sitting in my loft-looking back at me (never even tried it...)
-jeans that are tight...cuz I just KNOW it will give me incentive to loose a few ponds and they will fit nicely-wrong, they are just hanging in the closet
-Yet more conditioner/shampoo- when I already have some but it is almost empty and such a pain ion the a*ss to get out of the bottle-so I buy new ones, and put the almost gone ones in my closet, again and again. If you could see my bathroom closet You would crack up   (1/2 inch) in the 20 various shampoos, I have stored in there--Stupid

BUT about your question:
Things I never buy:
Packaged foods- as others have mentioned
Oleo or margerine- give me butter (unsalted, please)
Generic stuff- I am crazy I know, but it never seems as good as the "brand" name stuff.
Fast food- Can't even remember the last time I even stoppped at one
Cheap Liquor- If I 'm going to serve it or drink it myself, It has to be good
Just a few to add to your list- Oh an another thing I won't buy is a co-workers kids choclate bar ("They are selling them to raise money to_____fill in the blank)".. If the kid comes to me and asks , I'll buy it- but not from thye Mom or Dad who is trying to do their kids work. I remember when I had to do that and it was a learning experience. To go up to adults, that you don't know, and try to sell them something, and I think every kid should sell there own stuff- So there!
and lastly, any cheese that comes out of a can- WTF???

2 excellent ones! I couldn't agree more. I haven't had fast food in many years.
And top shelf booze...yeah! Ketel One, Patron...

I do the same thing with my contact lens solution. I have about 5 bottles in my room that have a tiny bit in them. Instead of using each drop up and throwing away the bottle I let them sit there until one day when I just decide to get rid of the drops and the bottle.

I do the same thing with hand soap from B&B Works. You can never get that last 1/2" out, so I stick it under the sink figuring once I use a little of the new bottle, I'll put the rest of the old stuff in there. Never happens.

Oh, I thought of something else. I don't buy booze or wine. I drink beer at home, I only have mixed drinks or a glass of wine if I'm out. If I'm having people over, I'll stock up, but other than that, almost never.

Sugar. I never have sugar in my house.
Fabric softener, too.
A dishwasher. I fear everyone in the world has one, except me (and the other people in my building). Sucks.
Juice. very rarely. It's a waste of calories, and you can't hardly absorb any nutrients from it. Although I do like juice, of course. V-8 is different, it's low in calories and sugars.

I'd like to address the "donuts/cakes/pies" issue - you buy them so that you don't have to make them. Not that I buy them a lot.

Alot of the clothes my dad used to send me from Florida for Christmas.
