I like cheese.

I'm partial to provolone, swiss, and mild cheddar. Oh, and there's a Mexican variety called casero which is really good.

Cheese is good.
I like the Mac, and I like cheese.

I also like mac and cheese.

I also like Queso Iberico, and Tetilla (Spanish cheeses) creamy goat cheese, plain old Monterey Jack, and Taleggio

I don't know why I keep going to Dayton Bomber games, except for the obvious I'm a season ticket holder thing. But tonight's game was about as boring as listening to every Lindsey Buckingham speech from every show of the SYW tour in a row. What should be ejoyment becomes tedious.

I love cheese of all types! I could go meatless, if I had cheese and nuts for every meal.
Oops, except Limburger. What do they use this **** for???
Like I said, I like ALL cheese, so I bought some Limburger, about 5 years ago, figuring how bad could it be. OH MY FREAKIN' GOD. It was in the fridge a couple of days......it started smelling up the whole house, and I don't mean a little. It was the rankest thing ever. We had to set it out on the porch one evening, just to get it out of the house, and disposed of it the next morning. Who eats that ****???????

I love coming here to talk about nothing.........this place is kind of like the internet Seinfeld.

I just want to say that I love vinyl! :blob2: :blob1: It is by far the best musical format. Also, I hate the trend toward mp3s over tangible music. I hope I'm wrong, but I think in the future everything will be downloaded and there won't be any other musical formats such as CDs. I hate the thought of this, because the sound quality will suffer terribly. Mp3 format has poor sound quality, because of the process it take to convert it. Doesn't anyone care about sound quality anymore?

Wow, I feel better now. Thanks for listening to me rant. :)

While I can't say that I agree with you about vinyl (I find those enormous discs to be cumbersome and just a general pain in the ass), I share your sentiments about MP3s. I dearly hope that they will not become the only available format. Sound quality aside, one of my favorite things about getting a new cd is opening it up and reading the liner notes and looking at the pictures while I listen.

Digital downloads just aren't the same. :(

Dunno. Last night we heard snarling and squealing and people shouting "No!" then a few minutes later my neighbor's girlfriend comes knocking on my door asking to borrow a ladder to get the injured cat out of the tree and asked if I knew of any vet offices open that late on a Saturday.

That particular neighbor creeps me out a little so I didn't stick around to find out the outcome.

How do you think a CD is pressed? All music before a CD pressing is put into a digital format, regardless of old school analog tapes. So a CD is not the end all of quality audio.

Mp3's can have outstanding quality and there are different encoding technologies. Most ears will not be able to tell the difference. Also most consumers can't afford or would want to pay a higher price for digital equipment that is high end.

Sounds like those people dont care much for their pets.

How so?

I suspect that the cat, who lives with an enthusiastic but gentle labrador retriever, ventured over the fence into an adjoining lot and met my other neighbor's not so gentle dog, got bit but managed to escape, and bolted up a tree.

Though I don't know for sure because my first reaction when I heard the commotion was to make sure that my own cats were safely inside the house.

I too hope that CDs don't die out. I have a peaceful coexistence between the two. I love the thrill of going out and buying a tangible CD and playing it, but at the same time carry my whole record collection with me on MP3 player, so that even when the CD is scratched, I still have my music.

But if my MP3 player fails and my entire collection is wiped, I still have my music. :)

I like holding a CD in my hand, and I like having 200 of them in my pocket. Bingo. :woohoo:

I love vinyl, as I said in my post. It has the superior sound quality. As for the mp3/cd thing, when you convert and compress music to put it into an mp3 format you lose sound quality. It is simple as that. That is why you have people doing bit torrent, so they don't lose sound quality. Do you think people would go to all the effort to do bit torrent, if the sound quality was the same as an mp3 which is easier and fast to download? Of course not.

Also, I'm not one of the people who is ready to trade sound quality for convenience. I CAN hear the difference, and I do have the equipment. It is important to me, but that is just me.

I totally agree with you as far as vinyl goes, I will never stop listening to my records and I far rather prefer listening to Rumours on vinyl than any other format, it just sounds so much better!

As far as digital music goes, I have yet to purchase a high-end CD player and perhaps if/when I do I'll stop listening to vinyl, but I don't think so. :-D

We're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one. Your comment on vinyl being superior is laughable. Yes, vinyl does sound different, but superior? No way, unless you enjoy the sound of snap, crackle, pop. Which some folks do. I think their judgement is skewed for nostalgic reasons more than anything. Digital reproduction is the highest quality audio sound to be produced, particularly from analog sources.

If you don't like the quality of mp3's, have you encoded at a very high bit rate (lossless encoding)? Bet you can't hear the difference. Still claim you can? Then by all means I suggest you choose AAC or AIFF encoding from your CD's. AIFF is the encoding mastered to CD, so it's a straight transfer. Problem here, is you'll need the storage space since those files will be much larger.

For an example, let's look at the Anthem Records release of Buckingham Nicks. We all know that CD, while excellent sound quality, was mastered from vinyl. In post production, they did clean up the audio significantly to remove hiss and vinyl audio imperfections. However, a hi-fi audio system will reveal those sounds.

Also without the age of digital, you would not have 5.1/6.1 audio speaker systems which properly encode digital to go where the the audio engineers intended. Another example would be the DTS/Dolby Editions of Say You Will and Rumours. I can't believe you can honestly say that vinyl is still better than these two products. I know, I've done the comparisons. These editions are far superior than any other pressing I've ever heard (including Mobile Fidelity, Nautilus and acetate vinyl. Yes even superior to CD). The richness and clarity and the use of 5.1 speakers really make you feel as though you're indeed in the recording studio. The channels are nicely spread. Of course you can play these DTS DVD's in any player, but you won;t hear the differences unless you have the 5.1 (and digital decoders) to take advantage of the digital audio.

I think it also good to know that mp3 technolgy has not peaked it's capabilities, as most computer technology, and it is still being developed and improved upon.

Very nicely put. I never download songs (except for one-offs like "Eye of the Tiger" that you'd never buy anyway) because I love having a CD in my hand. I love going through a CD for the first time, listening to it and reading the lyrics along with it, or just listening to it.

I'd be lost without my mp3 player, but at the rate I buy CDs I'll need to have 2 to hold all my music, or get a 40GB one

In pure technical performance CD beats vinyl for sure. And DVD-A beats those both easily. We can agree there, for mathematical facts are mathematical facts.

However, to me there are no nostalgic reasons as to why I prefer listening to vinyl instead of any other format of music. When I started to listen to music in earnest CD was already the dominating format. By that time the big record companies had stopped pressing vinyl almost everywhere in the world because they realized that they were going to make more profit by selling their old back catalogues in digital formats to the consumers again. In 2002, though, I began to buy vinyl because it pleased my ears the most. And that was not due to technical performance, it was because vinyl adds slight distortion to the original recordings.

You will probably say that this distortion adds inaccuracy to the music, that it takes away from "the truth" or whatever. I wouldn't disagree with the former, but to me it is as truthful as anything I've ever listened to. Certain expressive voices like Bob Dylan's, Tom Waits's and even Stevie's sound more powerful to me via this rigid analogue format. I've said this before and I say it again, when I listen to those voices via vinyl they don't sound like they've been recorded and then transferred to some medium. It sounds like they're really there in front of me singing at me. And the same happens when instruments have been recorded and pressed in a similar way, like on some jazz recordings. Maybe to you this is an illusion, to me it's the real thing.

And I certainly am no vinyl purist, I use different formats of music from FLACs and mp3s to CDs and vinyl. And hell, even cassettes. Right now I'm wracking my brain in order to come up with decent ideas for a song competition where you're allowed to cover almost any Joy Division or New Order song. I'm recording this stuff to an analogue cassette on a portable recorder through a condenser microphone because that to me is the most appropriate approach for the song. I could use Adobe Audition to do the job if I wanted to but I don't.

So while from a technical point of view your arguments are very valid, to me they're not of much value. Just because vinyl moves me more than any other medium of recorded music because of its different sound have I written all this stuff. Obviously you find the digital formats more moving to you, and that's all fine and good.

Music to me is never a question of performance though; who plays the fastest or what format offers the greatest accuracy doesn't matter to me. Music ain't no sports. To me a fine vinyl pressing is an artform just like creating music itself is.

Very nice reply, thanks. I do understand everything you said and you're certainly not the first person I have heard say this.

My only other comment is that I do not find digital formats more moving, that was never my point. Just speaking of audio fidelity, which we are in total agreement on. I just prefer technical advancement. You won't find me winding up a Victrola Phonograph for a "mood either."

Enjoy your vinyl. I too, collect vinyl and enjoy it for what it is. In fact, I took it upon myself to use it as a art installation in my home. I used every colored vinyl ever pressed (from very cool artists)...including a rare white vinyl pressing of Billy Idol's 'Heroin.'
