The pet thread is pretty old, so I figured I'd start a new one. Feel free to post cute (or ugly, whatever) pet and/or kid pics here.
My nephew just met Bubba for the first time last week :D :

That was Gordie. Unfortunately he's passed on, but he was the best rat I've ever had. I used to take him to work with me everyday (work at a vet's office) and let him loose on the counter to greet clients. Most of them loved it.

I'm sorry about Gordie. That's cool, though, that you could take him to work. There's a law firm that I work with a lot that lets their employees bring in pets. The only thing I've seen are dogs, but it's so much fun to go there and see them. They just wander around the office. Every once in a while there's a tussle, but that's it.

It was terrible, he was in so much pain so when he was finally well it felt so good.
He never gets matted! Its amazing. The vet asked me if I had him groomed or if it was all him. He's pretty consistent about grooming LOTS. So when he was sick and his fur was all dirty and yucky it was so sad. :( In this photo he had just groomed so much his fur is a bit wet.

Aren't they? I was at the urologist this morning and I have cats on my socks. The doctor saw them and said "oh, you're a cat person. I'm allergic to cats and don't like them." I said "I'm allergic, too, but I would never live without them."

Fire-Belly Toad!!!! I love that cute little critter. I love frogs and toads. I also like turtles and tortoises...much prefer tortoises though.
I used to have a tortoise. A Russian Land Tortoise to be exact. She was high maintenance - I had to prepare her a fresh salad of leafy greens, vegetables, and edible flowers, combined with calcium and vitamin supplements every day. And what did she do for me? Eat, ****, and sit there doing nothing. I might as well have gotten myself a pet rock.
I still haven't managed to get a good pic of my other firebelly, Esmerelda (Ernie is the one pictured). She's so cute. She is the fattest toad I've ever seen. She's like a brightly colored ping pong ball with legs. I had to go to Petco today to buy crickets and sat there staring at the toads for several minutes, seriously considering buying a second girlfriend for Ernie, but I bought two male bettas instead.

Bring on Esmerelda!!! Love her name, perfect for a girl toad.
I had a friend who had a African Spurred Tortoise. What a clever one this one was. He loved to be stroked on his neck...and he come when you called him...took him awhile, but he got there! Some breeds are much better for the pet trade than others, especially if you get them as youngings! I don't mind there diet, since I eat glorious salads like they do...except without the freeze-dried flies and other weird tortoise food that I used to mix in their salads.

Thanks. She's 7, and one of her best friends is 10 and has been sleeping with a mask on. Rachel copies her friend in almost every way, really looks up to her (thank God her friend is a great kid, great influence). So naturally she wanted a sleep mask, and Santa got her one for Christmas. Unfortunately my young niece stretched it out a bit and it doesn't stay on as well. Rachel is a true girly girl (if you can't tell by all the pink in her room), so of course the mask is pink and sparkly! She adores anything pink, anything glittery.

 Cats are fun to watch when they're all pissed off.
And no, I was petting him and he was loving it. No roughouse, just a one handed pet. :) He's being very docile and lappish ("of laps") there. I don't roughouse him, I only play "ball" or "string" or "under blanket" or "eat this bug, please" with him - he's weird - like he teaches me how to be more respectful . He's never bitten me (unlike my siamese, who loves to bite) He gets really pissed off if I try to reprimand him - He busts this really "suffering, pathetic, whiny, I am right" miaow, and acts all put upon, like "I'm a human being, why would you speak to me that way?!"
I know people say their cats/dogs are like people, or whatever - and I don't doubt - but he really is like a person. He's like a person/dog/cat. But he's a better "person" than me.
However, I do know my other cats are not like that, not like people at all - so I'm not crazy in thinking that he is more like a person/dog.

Ahh thanks! I wish I had some better digital photos of Isabel the cat.
All my cats been teachers, I think. I grew up with Siamese cats, no siblings, and not a lot of parenting Our cat Ra lived to be 22, and she was cranky, smart, and beautiful - and a tough teacher. I think I will try to scan one of the photos I have of her. She was Seal point, old style. BTW, I used to have a blog called, "Raised By Cats".
One of the things I have noticed about my cats is that if you make them mad, or tease too much (not me, but say, a visiting child) they might bite once, or slap once but never more than that, and by "bite" I mean just put their teeth on your hand, not break the skin. It was interesting to watch my cat Isabel show my son how to treat her...and then he became a toddler got braver and bigger, and I had to intervene.

Aren't they? I was at the urologist this morning and I have cats on my socks. The doctor saw them and said "oh, you're a cat person. I'm allergic to cats and don't like them." I said "I'm allergic, too, but I would never live without them."
CarolWe have this orange tabby at our house, and when my mom and I got him about 8 years ago, my mom noticed him in his cage at the humane soceity and he was purring sooo much and came right to her. We were trying to figure out a name and I chose Norman after Norman Bates, cause I figured a cat taht friendly must be pyscho!

Paula, your nephew is cute!!! And I'm not just saying that cause he's a baby. He's a cute baby. :woohoo:
I think so too! I usually think kids all look the same until they're at least a year if not two, but damn is he gorgeous! A bunch of other people have said the same thing. Not that they'd probably say "hey, your nephew's freaky looking" of "what a bland looking child" but...
Wow, apparently my cat is the one pet on here that no one thinks is cute. Who woulda thought?
You know I love your babies! Hey, do you still have the midair jump shot you posted a while back?

It's not gay, it's just cruel. Unless it's a hairless dog, or a dog who gets really cold. I hate seeing dogs dressed, it makes me want to slap people. Mainly the people who dressed the dog. (aforementioned situations aside, of course).
And I might do something worse to anyone who would dress a cat.

What a nut! My cat doesn't jump that high anymore, she is slowing down a little (16 last month) but she used to leap into the air for a string or fur mouse.

Oh, my cat is a super goalie/shortstop/hunter. I throw the "ball", he gets it. He's the best at jumping, grabbing the "ball", getting it to his mouth, and dropping to the ground. It's weird, I flick it at him, and he blocks it. Seriously. Goalie/shortstop. *just like his mom*
Of course, he has to have special skills or I wouldn't be bragging. I have two other cats, you don't see them here...
Where's your cat? I'm sure it's cute, never met one that wasn't. And not all cats can be supershortstopgoalies, but they are still really cool. :)
So cough up the pic. Sure, your kid is darling and all that, but a CAT! now that is really cute!!!!
*small strange factoid, should probably put in dream thread - whenever I've dreamed I was prego (not often) I have given birth, or will give birth to, kittens. Which is great, really.

Fortunately, she is old enough to have been well-documented in print film. I scanned this tonight.

My kitty is more adept at mouse or "ball" dribbling.

Awww! I thought it was just Missy. And they are both white... is yours odd-eyed too? In the picture it kinda looks like one eye is gold and one green (mine has gold and blue). Our cats should hang out
Actually both her eyes are green. The flash just made the one have a big glare on it. Is Missy really really soft? Violet is the softest (and best) cat I've ever had. She's got personality to spare.

that's so sweet. hope kitty feels better.
my cat gets on the bathroom sink every night before bed and circles the sink until I fill it with water. she laps it up like she's dying of thirst. I'm like, don't you have a water bowl full of fresh water? why must you drink from the sink? well, I guess it's better than when my big dog drinks from the toilet.

 Mufy has his own glass on the coffee table because he doesn't drink out of his bowl either. After he had his urinary crystals the vet told me to make sure he has lots of water. So since he would steal my water from the table I figured I would just put his own glass there. Oh how I love him!

Confession time.....my cats don't even use a water bowl. They only drink from the toilets. Every once in a while I'll put a bowl down, but the NEVER use it.
My friend was told her cat has an enlarged stomach and possibly a UTI. Blood work was okay, though. She's beside herself. She's been sleeping in their office with the cat every night. They lock the cat up in there because she's been having accidents, and there's no carpet in there. Hopefully she'll be okay. She is 13, though. :(

Did they x-ray her to see if anything is in her bladder? The poor baby. Mufy used to drink from the toilette but my roommate couldn't stand it so we keep the lid down now. Once in a while if we have a guest who doesn't put it down he gets in there! It's so funny.

It's a perfectly captured moment of why I love cats. They are idiotic and crazy and do things other animals wouldn't.
When cats get "The Boggits" as I call them and they have a totally mad five minutes without warning its captivating... Until they break something. :wavey:

X-ray will be the next step. They have her on antibiotics now. I talked to my friend a little bit ago (we're in different states :( ) and she said the cat hasn't been grooming herself or eating much. But after being on antibiotics for 2 days, she thinks she's eating more. I really hope she gets better, for my friend's sake.

Yeah, like someone bit kitty in the ass. They also used to run the perimeter of the room only on high surfaces - couch to table to bookcase to window sill to couch again.
My cat now, gets the zooms expecially after a trip to the litter box, which always makes me apprehensive about approaching that box to see what lit her fuse.

Suze, good news on my friend's kitty. All blood work is back and is very very good, esp for a 13 year old cat. No cancer, no liver problems. Spoke too soon.... :distress: :distress: They put her down tonight. She really took a turn for the worse last night. She couldn't even get in and out of the litter box, totally stopped eating/drinking and was very lethargic. The vet said she could feel a bunch of tumors in her belly, and she thought it's probably cancer. They didn't want to put her through surgery, since she was older, and she lost so much weight this week she weighed less than 10 lbs.
I wish I could be there for my friend. This is the weekend we were going to go visit her (I actually haven't seen her in several years, although we're in touch via email or phone several times a week), but I let my husband talk me out of going.
