My favorite Stevie concert of all: Inglewood Forum

Wild, reckless Stevie. Sorry about the really bad audio quality but back then Stevie & her audience were all in love ... so we were all often equally bombed.

Here's the absolute killer "How Still My Love," with Stevie howling & growling throughout the entire vamp part at the end, improvising lyrics out of her psyche for more than 7 & a half minutes!

It sure would be nice to have this off the soundboard. :(

Go, Stevie!

Holy crazy! That is amazing. And strange, of course. Those are some cool harmonies with the girls around 5:45.

1. Many thanks to David for posting!!!!!

2. Moments of brilliant light somewhat darkened by that insane babbling in place of singing, most noteably to me in IAF.

It was a wild and crazy time though!!!

Thank you so much, David. Are those pictures from the same show? No, unfortunately. They're from a week earlier at Irvine. But Stevie was exactly the same visually, so it's the same idea. I actually took the B&W shot, & the other shot was taken pro.

Here's Beauty & the Beast:

I keep hoping that by mentioning this concert, someone somewhere will step forward with a great audio or video of it. Because, as Stevie said, "memories fade ... like the wind ~*~"

Thanks, David. It's gorgeous, and I second your desire for video. ooo, it switches to Crazy Rhiannon right in the middle of this BATB!!! She's doing that weird fluttery high voice thing (like on above HSML) here too! Wow. That is some crazy sh**. How much do I love her? Oh, and then after Rhiannon we hear the end of BATB.

Now - maybe someone who has heard more performances can shed some light - but it seems to me from what I hear that even if Stevie's voice is really rough, she manages to do Beauty and the Beast better, more smoothly and prettily than most other songs in the set. It's like her voice clears out and her tone steadies and evens up. It even seems like her range expands.

I guess I've only heard/seen about 5-7 different ones from different times.

Is it just me? Are there worse versions floating around that would dispell this notion I have?

That interesting, Amber. I hadn't thought about it until now, but I've never heard a live BATB that I didn't think was beautiful and really vocally strong.

Is it just the file quality, or is this in a slightly higher key than the album version? It's always nice to hear her voice in the often-neglected higher ranges. Thanks, David! :wavey:

Thanks David. I am excited to hear these. When I first joined the Ledge you and I chatted about this, but I was also at this show.

Thanks for posting, David! I don't think there is a live version of HSML that I don't like. My fave I think is the one on the "Cloaks & Daggers" compilation .. not sure of the year .... 1985 maybe?

Stevie has a mostly good-natured (but maybe not) argument with her tour manager before the song starts ("Give you a break? If you would like to come out here, I'll give you a break.")

why does batb cut into rhiannon? it also sounds off key, like when your batteries are running out and everything slows down, lol,

kezzie :angel:that's exactly what was happening--the two D batteries were waaaaaay low. Toni Graphia was handling the tape recorder for this one (she writes for one of the sci-fi series on TV now) & she really botched it. We were all pretty stoned, but she really botched it. She rewound to get Rhiannon on because she thought she had run out of room on the tape, so she taped over the middle part of Beauty & the Beast (when Stevie sang "He's a fox"), so there you have it!

I really want a soundboard!! You know who you are, you who have the soundboard. Please release it. Or we will curse your mother & your mother's children.
