my hubby is polish, i make the best homemade pierogi's!!!~
Mmm, perogies.
I originally grew up in Winnipeg which might as well be the perogi capital of the world because of all the Ukrainians living there. Anyhoo, cheese and potato is the best, fried, with salt, butter and sour cream. Oh and with some roasted garlic cloves. Yummmmm.

Okay, now I always call whatever those are "peroshki". I guess that's Russian.
Of course, when my family makes them, they're called Calzones.

Yep, they are really good. My grandmother's side of the family came over from Poland. We only really got them on holidays though. Ours were potato and sauerkraut, boiled then sauted smothered in onions. They aren't really anything like a calzone. Calzones are more of a bread dough. Pierogies are more like a dumpling dough. For anyone who hasn't had them, they are kind of like a fried chinese dumpling but obviously with a different kind of filling.

thats exactly right! my ex husband is Russian and I tried them when we were together, yum! He called them Peroshki tho, not pierogi.
there's a Filipino version too, called Lumpia (sp?) which is more of a bread dough, also very yummy!

Oooh, i love perogi's. They are very big here in Pittsburgh. Most places served them fried here but I like them boiled and topped with butter. My favorite are cheese and onion and broccoli and cheese. YUMMY!
