View Full Version : How are you different from every other ledgie?

What what thing about your Fleetwood Mackiness do you believe makes you different from every other ledgie?

In my case, I would say that my disturbing yet all-encompassing love of "The Derelict" (that's off the "Penguin" album for those of you who haven't a clue) by short-termer Dave Walker is what sets me apart from every other ledgie who ever lived.

So what is it in your case?

I have an obnoxious personality.

Street Angel is my favorite album.

that's a good question. I'll have to think about it, unless someone has some ideas.

I have OCD.

I think it's safe to say I'm the only one, or one of the only ones, who defend Stevie no matter what and I don't hate anything she's ever said, done, sang, written, worn, etc. I may not like it as much as other things, but nothing I don't like. :o

No, Curtis, the question was what makes you different from most other Ledgies?

EDIT: To answer for myself (though I know there are at least a few others here who feel this way as well): I could give two ****s about the soap opera or "personal" aspects of the band and its music. I don't care about any of their personal relationships, I don't care how Lindsey and Stevie feel about each other (or whether they were getting together on whatever tour), and I think the question "What real-life person or event did Stevie/Lindsey/Christine write this song about?" is stupid and meaningless and rarely anywhere close to the point. None of that has even the slightest thing to do with why I listen to Fleetwood Mac, and the endless "theories" about all of that kind of crap drives me up the wall. (And, I will admit, I think obsessing over all those sorts of things is a poor way to go about listening to and appreciating music. Any music, not just Fleetwood Mac's.)

I don't care either. I just wanna hear the dang music.

Not sure what makes me different from other Ledgies. I guess, what I just said and also I'm a Lindsey fan first and foremost and prefer just to see him in concert from now on and never see FM again, but that will NEVER happen. :(

Not sure how many Ledgies love and adore Danny Kirwan. I would be one of those. :)

Umm...

I think Mirage is a pretty good album (except for Empire State) and I listen to it a lot. I'd go as far as to say that it's better than Tango (ducking now)

I'm fascinated by the BN history, but I'm not a 'shipper who thinks that Lindsey and Stevie are secretly married or anything.

I think When I See You Again is haunting (It wouldn't be if Lindsey didn't come in at the end).

I enjoy live versions of Gypsy

Can't think of anything else. On a non-Mac topic, I'm 17 and don't live with either of my parents.

I was a fan BEFORE the band was formed (meaning, I was a Peter Green fan before he formed Fleetwood Mac)

I think the Rumours album was a travesty for the band..the album, the phenomenon, the "soap opera".

I think BOTH Lindsey & Steve should've quit at the end of the Tusk tour.

I think The Dance album & tour was the worst thing that Fleetwood Mac could've done at that point in their history. It basically killed the band.

I think it's safe to say I'm the only one, or one of the only ones, who defend Stevie no matter what and I don't hate anything she's ever said, done, sang, written, worn, etc. I may not like it as much as other things, but nothing I don't like. :o

Read Jyqm's reply to Curtis...ditto here. You're not really alone in that...the bus is VERY crowded with your type.

I think "When You Say" is a great song - I must be fairly unique in that

I too couldn't care less about the Stevie/Lindsey situation - to me they both have to continually justify their places in the band - as long as they keep doing that (just) then they're OK with me.

I also think Jeremy Spencer is greatly underrated - hey, I actually know who he is, which sets me apart from some Ledgies

I'm different............

When ChiliD says ridiculous things like "The Dance killed the band"...I laugh, instead of being apalled like most Ledgies.

I actually play guitar LIKE Lindsey. My first introduction to guitar was fingerstyle so it just progressed into electric playing when I discovered Fleetwood Mac. BoBo and I went round and round with this one. I think most of the musicians on here that play guitar use picks.

I secretly think anything thats been released after The Dance is no longer classic Mac, or really Fleetwood Mac at all. (whoops...how do I tell them that because of the unfreezing process I have no inner monologue. I hope I didnt say that out loud just now...)

AMEN! Your words are my feelings exactly. The never-ending soap opera that some fans like to perpetuate does detract from the music (and I fault the band, mostly Stevie, for pandering to the past). Granted, they are interesting people, but some can get carried away with obsessive tabloid theories. My theory is that, relatively speaking, their lives are more boring and mudane than we imagine. And the business about finding hidden meanings/secrets in their lyrics? Also imagined! Stevie changes the meanings of her songs through the years...which means they mean nothing other than what's in her gobbled hippy mind at any given time.

Yes, those rock gods we follow and sometimes worship are really just humans with the same pretensions and failings as everyone else.

When ChiliD says ridiculous things like "The Dance killed the band"...I laugh, instead of being apalled like most Ledgies.Nah, nobody should be appalled. Chili likes the same group we like, all in all. He just wants to break through the monolithic & somewhat oppressive tunnel vision for the Nicks & Buckingham years of the group with a rhetorical stance that counteracts the wholesale swallowing of material & achievement from the public favorites. Remember that he spent some of his hard-earned cash (I assume it was hard-earned!) to see ten thousand shows on the Rumours Tour, & more hard-earned cash to see three or four shows on the 1997 reunion, so you have to put his "travesty" epithets into context.

He's just trying to break through the monolith. A lot of us do that in our own ways: I do that by acting goofy & throwing out all my Fleetwood Mac memorabilia. Others do that by leaving the Ledge or committing suicide. Still others do that by committing crimes, such as kidnapping, assault, & putting kosher dill pickles on a Caesar salad.

Well I don't play with a pick and neither does seteca and we are both primarily electric players so I'm not so sure on that one.

Okay....

Hmm, let me see.

I've shaken Peter Green's hand. If you think that's no big deal, just ask him.. :)

I pushed Lindsey out of the way to play his guitar in London  and if that wasn't bad enough made him miss his cue on "Come" in Manchester..

I started by liking the Buckingham Nicks line up but I'm now firmly in the Peter Green camp. Not many can say that!

this is a good question.

- well, for one, if i had $1000 to drop, i wouldn't spend it to fly to vegas to see stevie. i have paid hundreds for a show, but i couldn't pay $1000. and i'm not passing judgement on anyone here. i wish i could do it!!

- oh, here's another. even though i've been a fan since 1987, i didn't see a Dance show.

- or a TISL show.

(can i go slit my wrists now? would that be okay?)

- i have the ribbons from stevie's mic from the SYW tour - got them after the last show of the tour.

I'm predominantly a metalhead (Probably the only Ledgie who listens to either Behemoth or Cradle of Filth) who just happens to like Fleetwood Mac. So I can easily go from Satanic death vocals and 240 bps music to F.M. with ease

I also think "Behind the Mask" is a GREAT album (Hate to admit I have played "BTM" moreso than either "Rumours" or "Tusk" as of late)

No, you're not:)

hm, let's see, what else..
I think I have a fairly unique way of expressing my stevie fandom .. :D

To be honest, I'm not really a Fleetwood Mac fan anymore. They really don't excite me that much, compared to the other bands I'm into. Why am I here then? Uh, because of the ledgies or some kind of .. sentimentality about the band..
I don't know how unique that is for a ledgie?

David
03-09-2006, 10:09 AM
well...I love "Not that funny"...now that must make me unique :laugh:Not unique, but certainly a member in an elite club: in my opinion, "Not That Funny" is the most joyous, infectious, lovable track the band ever created.

This track first appeared on "Tusk" which was released on October 12, 1979; that date should become a landmark in pop history comparable to May 29, 1913--the night "Le Sacre du Printemps" was first performed--in concert hall history. There was no riot, & no one threw anything at the turntable, but I think it's fair to say that the listener was in a state of shock, because "Not That Funny" has the same kind of hypnotic excitement as the "Sacre," the same primitive force, & the same thrusting, jabbing eroticism. The pop breakthrough had finally come. AOR pop had been supplying mechanized sex--sex as physical stimulant but without any passion or emotional violence. The sex in "Not That Funny" expresses the band's drives. Lindsey Buckingham is working out his aggression on Mick Fleetwood & Mo Austin, & the physical menace of sexuality that is emotionally charged was such a departure from everything we had come to expect from pop that there was something almost like fear in the atmosphere of the party in the Warner Brothers lobby following the release.

I never listen to any FM song that Stevie doesn't sing lead on.

I have come to mildly dislike: Don't Stop, Big Love, and other huge hits through over exposure to them. If I hear Don't Stop in a store, I cringe.

I like Christine McVie a lot, but I don't really like any of the songs she's written and her voice doesn't do anything for me. I would never buy her, or LB's solo stuff. I only really like FM cos of Stevie.

I only really listen to Stevie demos these days, not the released albums. I'm not sick of the released stuff exactly, but I have heard them so many times (as a teenager listened to Rock A Little on average probably six times a day) that I don't actually need to play the songs if you get what I mean. At a guess, I'd say I haven't played Belladonna or Street Angel all the way through for over 5 years.

I use a pick 75% of the time. Well, a pick AND three fingers. I use a piezo for acoustic sounds, too, and I find I get a better strumming sound with a pick. I'd probably lose the pick if my nails were stronger. I take gelatin for them(hey, I suffer for my art!).

I've shaken Peter Green's hand. If you think that's no big deal, just ask him..
Ewww, handshaking is an antiquated custom, which does nothing but spread disease, and needs to fall by the wayside.:o Okay, THAT'S how I'm different from every other Ledgie. I'm a Germ-o-phobe!

Well, mine would probably be that I've never really been "Star struck" by Fleetwood Mac. The reason probably is that getting into them at the age of 6, I never looked at them as superstars, but more old friends I visit every day. Maybe another is that I genuinely enjoy coming here and visiting with the other fans, especially in the Pre-Rumours section. I never got into the pre '75 lineup until the late 80's, and while I'll admit my preference is for the post '75 lineup, I MOST DEFINITELY enjoy the older stuff, and enjoy talking to and learning from the people that visit Pre-Rumours on a regular basis. I figure learning more about all aspects of Fleetwood Mac can only enhance my appreciation for their overall body of work.

I fell in love with the Rumours era. Then, I grew up!Stop it, you guys! I love the music on "rumours" & your comments make me feel immature or tasteless.

Go ahead & hate the fans because they're morons.

Go ahead & hate the radio stations & the companies that own them for overplaying music until every last drop of cash is squeezed out of that cow. Hate the machinery, hate the humbug, hate the brouhaha, hate the sinners, even.

But don't transfer all your hatred to the songs. Do you hate "Las Meninas" because it shows up on the cover of a PeeChee or on ten dozen blogs or because silly hordes start calling it the greatest painting ever in the West?

Thank goodness you're not theater critics. Plays that have been around for hundreds of years & have been maltreated by dozens of directors & actors -- like "King Lear" -- are liable to get the brunt of your ranting effusions.

OR ...

If you truly don't like the songs on "rumours," explain why with pertinent, relevant, specific reasons. Cite the "text." Don't go all hogwild with ad hominem & ad hoc & post hoc ergo propter hoc & petitio principii.

I'd go along with that.

If, as I suspect, it's a story from the long gone days of John's indulgences then I don't think it's something I want to hear. It's all in the past. I believe it would be disrespectful to John to bring up the bad times all over again. He's a changed man and a generous one at that after all these questions he's answered.

Being a fan of Fleetwood Mac makes me different from the people in my "real" life. However, finding The Ledge makes me realize I'm not much different than any other Ledgie. I will say though, that I've never really been interested in Stevie and Lindsey's relationship, but several people have said that already, so that doesn't set me apart either!!! :o

1) I LOVE Time and Behind the Mask.
2) I don't like Rumours.
3) I think the performances on Live In Boston are superior to The Dance. And I don't mean the way they sound, but more the energy of the performances.
4) I don't miss Christine. I like her, but I don't miss her.
5) I think Bekka Bramlett's voice is superior to Steve Nicks'.

2) I don't like Rumours. In your drive to be perverse & contre gré & startlingly original, you have forsaken sense & self-consistency. You like Lindsey Buckingham -- that's what you've said in the past. So we'll let that premise stand & go from there.

As has been shown & commented on by countless critics, musicians & fans, "Rumours" is the first album that Buckingham's ideas on arrangement & production first came to the fore & were actively employed -- indeed, were the very foundation -- in the building of these tracks: the mixing of layered guitars & other instruments with voices in an orchestral manner ("orchestral" here doesn't mean grand & glorious, it means with a polyphonic sense of the importance of each strand to the whole without placing primary emphasis on any one strand); arrangements that mix space & matter so that each complements the other; the Beach Boys-inspired layering of three-, four- & even five-part harmonies; the manipulation of instrumental atmosphere; the characteristic treatment of vocals as instruments; the emphasis on early-period pop structures & tempos (Buddy Holly, rockabilly, Kingston Trio, etc.); the pseudo-classicality; the impressionistic references to exotic instruments (harpsichords, balalaikas, music boxes, etc.) & to found sounds (breaking glass, animal noises, etc.); the cinematic aspects of production -- creating a mise en scene of instruments, vocals & emotional states; etc. etc. etc. -- everything we characteristically think of as BUCKINGHAM.

So how can you be such a fan of Buckingham & yet dislike (presumably all, although you didn't specify) an album on which his ideas & executions are prevalent to an extreme degree?

Do you just like his belly button or something? What is it exactly that you do like about him, & how does that not apply to his enormous contributions to "Rumours"?

What I like about Lindsey Buckingham are the things that make him unique, or at least unusual, among his peers - his style of guitar playing and the risks he takes in terms of production and the way he layers sounds. 2) I doooo like Rumours. LOVE IT!!! (sorry chilii ha haa
3) I love The Dance. Liked the reunion decade in general. Liked the Boston dvd since it's more "concert" though Stevie's voice was a bit bad
4) I DOOOOOO miss Christine. SYW is not one of my fave albums. Actually I still don't "get it" completely.
5) I don't believe that anytime that Mick and John do an album, they can call it Fleetwood Mac, a band is more than a rhythm section. It's a mixing of several things. That's why the whole Rumours lineup was greater than the sum of its members
6) And... finally.. I AM NOT CRAZY about TUSK. I like it but don't think it's the best album. Actually it's when Lindsey's sound started to be a bit monotonous

Oh yes they can, and they have several times. Mick and John are Fleetwood Mac, the only constant members. They don't just play drums and bass - they are what makes Fleetwood Mac tick - they've proved it (on and off) over 40 years. I suppose the CAN call it Fleetwood Mac but IMHO it's not really. Now if they want to do all different songs with all different people, perhaps (sounds like that Fauxwood Mac that came out in the early '70's).
But if they are going to do any material of Christine's, Lindsey's, Stevie's, or Bob's.... well then that's a different story.
I'm sure alot of Peter Green enthusiasts would say the same about Lindsey's version of "Oh Well" (which rocks, btw).

I also have to add that I totally love me some "Rumours"!!
I also like "SYW" but not as much and in a different way. I think it's some of Stevie's best stuff in a long time. Actually, I always thought it would have been cooler just to call it a Buckingham / Nicks cd as that is what it is more reminiscent of, the two of them working together.
So I guess I'm saying that if CHRISTINE is not in the band.... they can't call it Fleetwood Mac. :)
The preceding line was not intended to be taken seriously... kinda... sorta.

There's nothing risky about the sound of Rumours, it's pleasant but it lacks the magic that made albums like Tusk, Go Insane, Out of the Cradle, and what would have been (and maybe still will be) Gift of Screws great.Oh, come on. His style of guitar playing as well as "the way he layers sounds" are ALL OVER RUMOURS, from the slinky transparency of "Dreams" to the Appalachianified "Chain" to the expressionistic mixture of psychedelia & roots music of "Gold Dust Woman" & on & on.

If you truly believe that his singular characteristics can't be found on that album in abundance, you're smoking too much weed. Name some other songs from the late 1970s (but which predate Rumours or which weren't obviously influenced by Rumours) whose arrangements & textures are similar to "The Chain," "Second Hand News" or "Gold Dust Woman" -- or even "Silver Springs."

As for risks in production, locate me some of them production risks on the albums "Not Shy" & "Fundamental Roll." I've got all year, so take your time.

If you're looking for self-consistency, you're barking up the wrong proverbial tree.

I? Was a chiffonhead and a SHIPPER at one point in my fandom, if you can believe it.

To answer your question: There are no production risks in Fundamental Roll or Not Shy. They're just light and fun and catchy and I love them for that. But the music that Walter created long after his collaborations with the various Mac members is what I love most and is the reason why I am a true Egan fan and not just a casual listener.

EDIT: BTW, there's no risk of you being put on ignore. If I were to make a list of members that have annoyed or flat out pissed me off at one point or another, it would fill my screen, but the number of members on my ignore list? None. I thrive on friction too much to do that. ;)

Well, no of course that particular monstrosity wouldn't be a good thing, but it would be Fleetwood Mac, if that's what they wanted it to be.
There are two different ideational perspectives here: one sociological, one aesthetic/psychological.

The sociological perspective consists in the fact that Mick & John operate the band essentially, which means that by joining or leaving Fleetwood Mac, you are joining or leaving the rhythm section, because the name stays with the rhythm section.

The aesthetic/psychological perspective consists in the response many people have to the abstraction of an entity such as a rock band. That response reflects a psychological identification with a certain configuration -- a configuration not based on logistical or even legal aspects but based on the partially overt, partially subliminal conceptualizing power of the cerebellum & the cerebral cortex, which renders such ideation in emotive terms & then turns in on itself so that all sense of presence is merely deferred in increments that are themselves correspondent with levels of emotional experience.

Some people said they're not into all the drama behind the band members' lives. Well, I'm not into all the drama and bitchiness that goes on between some of the posters on this board. It never fails, when I get into reading a long thread, sooner or later someone will take personal offense at something somebody said and I have to wade through many "war of words" posts to get to the good posts that stay on the subject. Can't we just stick to talking about Fleetwood Mac?

Another way I'm different, I think, is that I'm pretty disgusted by the drug and alcohol abuse that has gone on within the band for years. (Not just the band, but everyone around them and the music industry as a whole.) It's not glamorous; it's a waste of health, time and money. The ultimate example of this for me was when I got a backstage pass to meet Lindsey after and Out of the Cradle concert and he was so wasted he couldn't talk coherently, couldn't even say "hello." These people have been so blessed, yet they have very little self control or common sense when it comes to what they put into their bodies.

The above is my opinion; don't bother flaming me, I'm not gonna respond.

How old are you, five?

Oh, I made it. Yes, yes I did. She started off as a Barbie, who happend to have long, straight blonde hair with bangs with heavy make up. Well, when I say "happened", I mean I hunted high and low for the closest resemblance. I sewed an elaborate Dance/SYW inspired outfit, complete with Frankenboks, red nails and a GDW shawl. Yep, that's what I did with my time. And she's my xmas tree-topper every year. I should snap a pic and show you guys as she's in my den bookshelf right now. I am soooo retarded.

I was so jealous when I saw that thing in Daniel's pocket.

Edit: Gaius should come in here to explain just how innovative OOTC really is and what I'm missing out on! :D
Eh, I'll try my best then. ;)

I'm not sure if Lindsey's ever been innovative or come up with a totally radical musical idea on his own, I personally think he attempted to popularise some of the punk and new wave ethics in the American mainstream for some time and still tries that to an extent; he's just stuck in the same old rut. But Bach and The Beatles never came up with anything totally unique either, they just combined several things that were surrounding them together so that it was accessible to many and thus they're the most revered of their eras.

I certainly wouldn't claim that OOTC is tremendously risky, but when it was released it definitely stood out by being out of step with the times. If all the bass-devoid '80s production values were being tossed out at the time, in order to be replaced by too much emphasis on the bass (as the grunge bands did, for instance) then of course it must have sounded a bit dated by then. No real rhythm section either, and devoid of a real band sound. Suspicious to most in the early '90s, methinks.

But one of the things that I think did contribute to the obscurity of the album was once again its diversity, some alternative rock-like material here and there (although I know you think the rockers on it sound "tame"), a lot of the Rumours-era sound and obvious throwbacks to pre-'60s popular music. Does not "Countdown" rip off "La Bamba" somewhat? He quotes "A Theme From Summer Place" at the end of "You Do Or You Don't". There are classical-sounding guitar parts all over the place, a Kingston Trio tribute and a Rodgers/Hammerstein tune. And of course "Soul Drifter", the one that Lee Hirschberg called "a real song". That guy used to work with Sinatra while The Chairman was recording the great American songbook. Lindsey even said that it was done with a Tin Pan Alley sensibility in mind.

So I do see the album as a risk, maybe not as a conscious one; after all the sound on it is almost as smooth as on TITN. But when it came out nothing at the time sounded like it because no one in the pop/rock mainstream was addressing the past as obviously as Lindsey did. I think he really wanted to make a tribute to pre-'50s music and that influenced the production on the entire album, even though some tracks obviously differ in style. In the early '90s it was out of time, because it's timeless. And of course the same goes to Law And Order.

Could I just add something, glass? Much of what we're referring to when we talk about Lindsey's "experimental" side pertains as much to manner as to matter. In other words, it isn't always as apparent to the casual listener because it's in the conceptualizing -- which is really nothing more than a series of choices, & in Lindsey's case that would be arrangements & construction -- & in the production. The experimentation is as often intended to hide its essence as it is to clearly display it. With Lindsey, you can cite this or that to try to get a hand on the experimental: banjo-like playing techniques/unorthodox playing techniques, vocal crooning reminiscent of '40s & '50s pop & doowop, using instruments for purposes other than what they were intended & designed for, using nontraditional instruments (nontraditional for mainstream pop-rock), etc.

Lindsey once said: "If the means you use to achieve something are unusual, the result may also be unusual."

As a reply to the initial question, I would say that

1) I am one of the few ledgies that have never seen a live FM concert and probably never will :(

2) I don't like Christine that much. I mean I don't really dislike her, but I don't care for her songs that much. I usually skip them when they come up on my mp3 player (except maybe hmm "Everywhere":o )

3) I totally love Stevie, all of her FM songs, her voice is my favorite female voice ever and her late 70's look is perhaps my ideal style ever etc, but I was never into her solo carreer. I like some of her solo songs, and I can listen to "Stand Back" 3 times in a row, but I can't stand listening to an entire solo album.
But that's probably true for other ledgies too:o

I'm predominantly a metalhead (Probably the only Ledgie who listens to either Behemoth or Cradle of Filth) who just happens to like Fleetwood Mac. So I can easily go from Satanic death vocals and 240 bps music to F.M. with ease

I also think "Behind the Mask" is a GREAT album (Hate to admit I have played "BTM" moreso than either "Rumours" or "Tusk" as of late)

Not keen on BTM but youre certaintly not the only metalhead ledgie...add me to the short list :)

I prefer GYOW on Rumours.

Lindsey can do pretty much no wrong in my eyes. Of course, he does make me nuts with no solo album out yet...GOT DANGIT! GET. IT. OUT!!!!!

Stevie gets on my nerves with her "I never had kids." thing. Christine never had 'em either, but you don't hear her going on about it. I'm 30, and I don't have any either and I don't want any. OMG, I'm not human!!

Yep... totally agree. I just never got into her solo stuff past Bella Donna. I liked it especially for the time when it came out, who she was and being such a fan anyway. However, once that album took off it, the follow-ups just seemed like the producer was trying to hard to make a "Stevie Nicks" (ala: Welsh Witch / Rhiannon / shawls / candles / platform boots, etc, etc.) presentation.
Lindsey seems to me to be the only one that can truly translate Stevie's music. Must be something about what they both bring to the table and then the translation thereof. I thought her stuff on "SYW" was the best I had heard from her in a looooong time.

I am 20 years old, male, and perfectly straight.

I could care less if I never heard Go Your Own Way again.

I can say that many of Fleetwood Mac's songs are cheesy and that I still love them with a straight face.

I love Tusk so much I bought two copies within six months of each other.

I prefer the Rumours version of YMLF way more than the Dance version.

I think that Tusk is incoherant, but in a good way.

I am uncomfortable about discussing my fandom in public.

I think that Everywhere is a boring song.

I think that Never Make Me Cry is pretty decent.

Seven Wonders (the song) annoys the hell out of me.

I feel that Stevie should start acting her age more often, and lay off the pancake makeup and enviable blond hair.

I think that Lindsey's songwriting has come to an abrupt halt simply because he's run out of bitter things to say about Stevie.

I'm broke, and the only studio albums I own are Tusk and Mystery to Me.

Also adding to my list...

---There is no Fleetwood Mac w/o Christine (IMO)

---I was going to say that I am probably the only one who actually enjoys every single song on Mirage and consider it one of their best (but Curtis beat me to it. ;) )

---I think Christine is the Messiah and I worship at her thrown. I know that when I die she has prepared a mansion in Kent just for Mary Anne, Homer, me and all of the other Chris nuts on the ledge...:blob2:

---Although I do think they were close friends at one point...I don't think that Stevie and Christine were anywhere as close as Stevie would have us believe...I know Christine just rolls her eyes when she hears/reads Stevie make such comments.

---If there was a bitch fight between Christine and Stevie...Christine would win! It would be close...with Stevie knocking Chris down with her super huge tambourine...but Chris would score the last big blow by dropping a Fender Rhodes on her head (and all those who own one or have tried to lift one...KNOW that this puppy would put anyone in the ground!)

From my experience, it took a while for MTM to grow on me, which I think is what makes it so strong. I'm old enough to have been around when "Hypnotized" got a lot of airplay on the classic rock stations, so I immediately recognized the song when I played the album. It wasn't until I began listening to a wide range of music that I really began to appreciate it's subtle brilliance. To be sure, there are a few songs on there I tend to skip, but of ALL the Fleetwood Mac albums, it's the one I find myself listening to the most. Incidentally, "Tusk" and "Then Play On" would be my second and third (no particular order) most listened to. So, I think you're definitely on the right track. These aren't the type of albums that make the heavens part on first listen, but they're still interesting after the 10,000th or so play, which is more than can be said of most Fleetwood Mac albums. (I NEVER need to hear anything released by Fleetwood Mac in the 1980s ever again.)

---I think Christine is the Messiah and I worship at her thrown. I know that when I die she has prepared a mansion in Kent just for Mary Anne, Homer, me and all of the other Chris nuts on the ledge...:blob2: I doubt she'd do any such thing, even in someone's lurid fantasy. The kind of disturbed, hypertrophic idolatry some people show -- with absolutely no sense of balance, proportion or discernment -- is probably a characteristic that Christine would find more than a little creepy & would want to steer clear of in a group of fans.

It pains me to see my pal Homer (whom I brought to the Ledge) refuse to say anything really new or insightful about Chris for fear of sounding "disrespectful" of "the goddess." I just get platitudes--like the Maria Montez worshippers in "Cobra Woman"-- & afterward, I don't know anything more about Christine & I don't know anything more about what makes Dave tick.

The thing is, fans do Christine no honor at all by deifing her, placing her on some cosmic pedestal beyond all reach or powers of perception or criticism. The only thing that demonstrates is complete misinterpretation & gross misunderstanding of her special qualities. Chris is all about maintaining your composure, your sense of discernment, your lack of bull****, & your sense of humor--as is plainly evident in her no-nonsense songwriting, plaintive but grounded singing & her subtle, rhythmic playing, even to the most obtuse Stevie fan. This willfully blind worshipping, whereby all analysis, weighing, sifting, comparing & criticizing are recoiled from, is completely alien to Christine's style & musical signature.

This goes for blind idolators of Chris, Lindsey, Stevie, Peter or even John: You're not *more* of a fan by refusing to analyze or criticize or put into context. You're just a more ridiculous fan.

Now this is all my opinion, naturally. Others might feel totally different about it all. In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion that some definitely do.

David, oh David. You're so analytical. While Christine is, hands down, my favorite, these past few years, I'm NOT afraid to say something negative about her.....here you go....I've never cared much for Warm Ways, or Only Over You, or Mystified. They're okay songs, but I don't love them.

You always want me to go on, ad infinitum, about WHY I love Chris. The following is from your next paragraph:
"Chris is all about maintaining your composure, your sense of discernment, your lack of bull****, & your sense of humor--as is plainly evident in her no-nonsense songwriting, plaintive but grounded singing & her subtle, rhythmic playing, even to the most obtuse Stevie fan."
See, THIS is why I love her. Because it's NOT about fanaticism, about some idiot singer's PERSONALITY, over the quality of their work. What you see, is what you get. The fact that she could mix in, as my next door neighbor, only endears her more to me. The fact that I would be very nervous, meeting her, maybe has something to do with being a huge fan, since 7th grade. When I don't follow FM, I usually follow alt-country. Inane crap like...."how they dance", just isn't important to me anymore(actually is a major turnoff). Give me a nice voice, doing a nice song, and I'm happy. When a bunch of extraneous bull**** gets involved, I lose interest pretty quickly.

This willfully blind worshipping, whereby all analysis, weighing, sifting, comparing & criticizing are recoiled from, is completely alien to Christine's style & musical signature.
I love her. I don't worship her. Worship is for gods. I'm not real big on that stuff! :woohoo:

And, as is often the case, for the past few months, I've had family staying at my house. I don't know about you, but when someone is talking to me 24/freaking 7, "I" find it hard to really come up with a decent response, trying to block their incessant blather out. So, I might opt for a, Bah, bah, bah!
Would that I could, I, once upon a time, might have been as analytical as you. I killed that guy. He just thought too much. He died a very painless death!

I'm glad that you are my friend, David.;)

This goes for blind idolators of Chris, Lindsey, Stevie, Peter or even John: You're not *more* of a fan by refusing to analyze or criticize or put into context. You're just a more ridiculous fan.

Now this is all my opinion, naturally. Others might feel totally different about it all. In fact, I have a sneaking suspicion that some definitely do.

Couldn't agree more. I have a friend who idolized an artist (not a FM one) for many years and she was completely obsessed. It got to such a ridiculous point that when he made a couple of albums that she didn't like - not for "objective " artistic reasons but because she thought were inferior, she almost wanted to throw away her old records. Now that's a totally childish behaviour.
It sooo gets on my nerves seeing fans acting like the artist is creating music (or whatever, depending on the art) just for their sake and get totally nuts over something or, on the contrary, disappointed over a not so good record, as if it were a "boyfriend" who let them down

I know that when I die she has prepared a mansion in Kent just for Mary Anne, Homer, me and all of the other Chris nuts on the ledge...

---Although I do think they were close friends at one point...I don't think that Stevie and Christine were anywhere as close as Stevie would have us believe...

You, my friend, are correct! I like your thinking.
I (heart) Mirage! I still totally enjoy it.... loved it then, love it now.
"Gypsy" is still one of my fave Stevie songs.
As far as them being friends, what an incredible mentor Christine might have been for someone like Stevie when they first got together. Of course, I'm sure all the garbage going on back then probably didn't help.
And count me in in the mansion in Kent. If that ain't heaven, perhaps we could at least see it from there. ;)

RED! Where is this picture! I must see it! :wavey:

I'm pretty sure I'm the only Ledgie who's butt was groped by Curtis. Well, perhaps Strand, but I'm not privy to what happened on their Vegas vacation. OK, I'm the only one who was groped by Curtis wearing a matching pink hoodie.

I'm the only Ledgie who has filmed Stevie's Edge handshake from the front row while actually shaking her hand (that I know of, anyway.)

I'm the only Ledgie who lives in my suburb of Buffalo. I think.

I'm the only Ledgie that has a mom who buys anything pertaining to Mac or Stevie at garage sales, whether I already have the item or not. This also makes me the only Ledgie that has this:

Ooops - too big, won't resize. Here's the link instead:

that's a good question.

Well, I didn't read what everyone said, but I'm different from every other Ledgie because I didn't like Fleetwood Mac back in the 70s. Yes, I thought they were all weird, & I was more into disco back then. (Well, I still like my disco every now & then.) I started liking the Mac when I just happened to see The Dance on PBS one night & I've been hooked ever since. And I've been trying to catch up on their history & their CDs.

Well, I don't know if this makes me different than others, but I 1st was a fan of Lindseys, and then FM. I can't really stand Christine , :sorry: or any of her songs, I usually skip right through her songs, :o , but I just ADORE Lindsey !!! :xoxo:

I absolutely love - "not that funny" - my husband says that Linds just screams and he doesn't even know how to sing - he tells me that LB should just stick to playing his guitar and keep his mouth shut - what the hell does he know anyways??

I have a HUGE "Lindsey shrine " at my house, while I'm certain that most people just collect FM or just Stevie items - well, it's just LB for me !!:D

I was a child of the 70s and I used to like disco, too. Not too many people in my school liked rock at all but I was into it all.
As a matter of fact one of my favorite XM stations is The Groove where they play Old School. I am listening right now.:o
