OK, I complained ( not really, I just stated ...)that these were too many posts on the Un-popular thread, and it was suggested that I start a thread of my own
Please note: I did start a thread before...It was called- "OK where are the reviews of the Australia shows"...might I add --it contained many posts.
Anyway, here is a thought-
What is it that is SO popular with Stevie that it's obvious, but you still love it/her?
LIKE:
She writes mystical, magical, obscure and really image producing songs-
She wears really great clothes- (I know we are all sick of the black)...but she chooses very feminine and stylish garb-
She loves to say "Faaabulous"-
She KNOWS that Lindsey will always be in/out of love with her-
That somehow, she still appears to be innocent (at 57), in spite of seeing and being through many, far from innocent, experiences-
She loved her Dad -so much...
Those eyes...those eyes-
She has remained sexy throughout the years and pounds that she has aquired and lost and gained and etc.
Thinking about her being intimate with Mick makes you go ''yeuuu"
OK Anyone else care to join in?

That voice. That freakishly amazing voice that sometimes just leaves me frozen in awe.
She's a rock and roll hippie. ;)
She is hilarious in interviews.
She really cares about our troops.
She writes obscure lyrics, but the words sound so beautiful together.

Uhm, actually at the moment I only have three.
1.) Stevie.
2.) Wrote.
3.) Gypsy.
( Please consult your History of the Universe textbooks right under "Christine Wrote Songbird." )
My opinion, of course, is not that they wrote these songs; but the respect they deserve because of that.
Ain't it a bottom-line kinda thing???

I don't see the other thread as being negative. Many people wrote "unpopular" opinions that were actually flattering/positive to Stevie.
Anyway, my obvious popular opinion is that when Stevie is on her game, no one can sing, move, or entertain like she does. :)

I believe you're joking Sapphire. Could there be some truth to it? It seems Stevie just can't shake that whole witch thing from the 1970's. This witch question keeps surfacing every few years. Of course, Stevie started the furor with Rhiannon, "witchy" dress and top hats. I think she likes the mysterious witch personna.

Popular Opinions on "la Nicks":
1) She's adorable, beautiful, and men have fallen at her feet.
2) She has not been terrible wise with the men who have fallen at her feet...(ok, that should be in the Unpopular thread).
3) She's patriotic, loves her country and supports the troops. (But I sense she doesn't want war, but cannot say so because it would be harmful to those injured soldiers she sees during her visits to VA hospitals...another one under "unpopular" opinion on Stevie, perhaps.)
4) She still loves Lindsey - perhaps not lustfully anymore - but perhaps looks to him for approval, like a mentor, than anything else...although I cannot see why, the man is a guitar god and he's gorgeous. To hell with the 30 years passed since the break up - if I were her, I'd be on him like white on rice....I digress.
I can't think of any other popular opinions that fans don't already know. The lady ROCKS!

Of course I'm kidding ;). I met someone recently and I was sharing with her the fact that I'm a huge Stevie freak and she was convinced Stevie was a witch (not a huge fan obviously). I still get a kick out of that. Of course I told her otherwise but people will beleive what they want. I forgot that a lot of people still actually think that. In Stevie's words:
"I'm not a witch, get a life!"

I forgot to mention in 1976, after the release of Rhiannon, some religious fanatical group(s) actually wanted Stevie Nicks and FM music banned from the airwaves and wanted a boycott of their records. They claimed Stevie was either a witch or under the "influence" of one. Of course it never got any where. It all seems so ridiculous and silly now.

I just found this at a Stevie Nicks FAQ site
5.4 Q: Is Stevie a witch?
A: Stevie always denies being a witch in interviews.
Her most recent answer to this question, given on a Yahoo chat on
April 28 1998, was: "I have no idea what precipitated those rumors...
I am not a witch. Get a life!"She was born into Episcopalianism, and went to several Catholic schools
I knew Stevie had uttered those memorable words, but I didn't know exactly where or when.

Aren't we all here? Is anybody already bringing popcorn for the next sabbat?
My popular opinions:
- she was mesmerizing during the Dance from second one, even only showing her back
- she seems two find particularly inspiring the color Blue...
- She loves ballet
- She's a lady from the Mountain
- The spirit catcher had a lot of work to do to calm souls during SYW recording.
- She's very sopportive of younger talented artists.
- She didn't want to be a cleaning lady
- Thankfully Lindsey left her alone during that famous night in Aspen.
.... and so on...

OH MY GOD

YOU HAVE NOT HEARD STREET ANGEL?
you must go to Stevie confessional RIGHT NOW
the whole friiggiiiin album rocks
yes i MAY be a LITTLE bit biased
but you want ROCK..........you get rock
you wanna be a bit depressed, you can be that too
I don't know why Curtis likes it
I personally like the album coz i can turn it up loud and rock to it.
Especially Love Is Like a River
And what's not to love about Blue Denim........Never to be, not you...not meeeeeeee :(
as for SA the song...well i like it coz it's very visual
and dark and angsty
and that's what i like
and because you can take it as a suicidal song
and it's depressing
but you can also take it as a song about loving someone so much that you know the only way to help them is to remove yourself from their life NOT necessarily by death
but the real reason i love this song is because i wanna be a street angel. i AM one  Stevie wrote this song fer MEEEEEEE
i've had a lot of **** happen in my life. i'm perceived as the weird one amongst my friends which i don't mind and i'm happy to float around and do **** whenever I feel like it regardless of what people's opnions of me are.
Street Angels aren't like anyone you know...They do what they want & they go where they go

While we're on the topic of SA, I don't think it's her best album (in fact it's probably my least favorite) but that being said it's still a great album by my standards and any true Stevie fan should own it.
StreetAngel86 - I love your description of the song Street Angel and why it means so much to you. That is my favorite song on the album and can relate to it for many of the reasons you stated. Thank you for being so articulate. It feels great when someone can relate to a song on a similarly deep level, especially when a lot of others don't appreciate it. I wish more people understood the song as you and I do. The sadness, imagery, haunting story, music, and vocals. It is one of her best IMO. I'm definitely a Street Angel!

Wow David, I'm shocked that you think SA is her best album . I really value your opinion and since that's not the most popular one I'm fascinated. You really think the writing, songs, and vocals are Stevie at her best or is it just the collection of songs overall you like?

I remember buying SA and OSOTM on the same day. I had never read any reviews or heard anything negative when I opened it and put it on to play. I never once thought it was SO dreadful and horrible. I actually liked all the songs and loved most of them. Had I never heard so much talk about it being a critical flop, etc. I would never have imagined it was any less than any other solo album. It's got hits and misses, but it is, to me, a great album that I cherish.

You really think the writing, songs, and vocals are Stevie at her best or is it just the collection of songs overall you like?I guess just the collection of songs overall, & the relatively straightforward arrangements. I think the writing is as good as on the bulk of her other solo albums. The vocals? Eh. .. okay, better than on Other Side Of Mirror because the willful disavowal of vibrato isn't as present on Street Angel, which leads to a head-coldy tonelessness on Mirror & Timespace tours.
Really, the vocals I dig the most are on her '83 & '85 solo albums, where she was able to hit tone far more frequently than in later years, yet nevertheless added rocky, snotty textures & timbre via intensified vibrato & arpeggiated pyrotechnics.

SA has never gotten a chance. All we ever hear is how terrible it is. So of course we've got preconcieved notions about it. We're going into it thinking, okay, how bad is this going to be?
But it's really not. There are some awesome songs on there. Some up up songs, and crazy fun lyrics. That's her thing. She gives us these amazing images. There's a few not so hot tracks too. But...all of her albums have at least one miss.
I was an avid SA hater until I actually got the album. And even then, it was ike torture for me when my friend made me listen to it. But the damn thing is catchy. Love is Like a River? Listen to the Rain? How can you not like these at least a little?
Anyway, it's possible to fall in love with this album. Give it a chance. Go in completely neutral. You will be surpised how enjoyable it will be.

I really had to force myself to listen to SYW- but once I did I completely fell in love with it (except for poor Silver Girl). When SA came out, I had no pre conceived notions, because obviously--it had just come out! (I was only 26 years old- SOB!) But for some reason, I just could never get into it. I despised Silver Girl until about 2 months ago when I decided to listen again and fell in love with it, especially the melody/lyrics to the chorus. It makes me really sad that so many people detest it :(

I will always be grateful for TISL - her "little masterpiece." And yes, I know a lot of people don't think much of "Everyday" and "TMMS," but those two songs affected me deeply in different ways. The first time I heard "Everyday" on the radio, I fell in love with the song and the voice, but had no idea who it was. I finally found out it was Stevie and was really surprised since I really liked FM starting in '97 with "The Dance." But before TISL, I never paid much attention to Stevie. So "Everyday" was the song that started my whole love affair with her music.
"TMMS" really hit me in the gut when I was having problems with depression. The line "well, I tell the shadows of my soul to stay back, everything has changed now" somehow inspired me and made me feel a bit better.
"Love Is" will always touch me deeply because it was released around the time my beloved dog died, and there's a line in that song that describes almost exactly what happened when I found out my dog had to be put down. Somehow I felt like she was speaking directly to me.
My other opinions:
*Her music is beautiful, mystical, meaningful and inspiring.
*She is simply gorgeous, for any age. I've seen women who've had plastic surgery to remove wrinkles and they still have some. Stevie has no smile lines, nothing! Her face is captivating, that hair is amazing.
*Her original style will always strike a chord with me. She's never boring (except I do think a few new outfits to mix things up would be extra nice).
*She makes "zaftig" look good. Skinny or heavier, she just somehow manages to stay young-looking and gorgeous. And she's inspiring that you don't have to be a stick to be attractive.
*She loves her fans. Do you think you could get so close to a stage and shake hands with Madonna? I think not...
*That voice. Whether speaking or singing, it's incredible.
*She kicked her addictions. Enough said.
*Finally, she's just such a cute little munchkin. How could anyone not love her?
OK, if I've made anyone ready to vomit with my glowing Stevie remarks, I'm sorry! But the woman can do no wrong in my eyes. :o

Oh no - what do you mean? I hope it's just an addiction to knitting or something...:p
What if she shoots your puppy?
If Stevie ever shoots my puppy, I'll kick her ass from here to Dyfed.
Stevie would be scared of my "puppy" since he's a loose cannon. But if she tried to hurt him, I'd sell all of my DVDs and CDs on half.com and never visit this board again.  Oh, and haul her butt into the cops! Hmph.

Welcome back girl! I haven't seen you in a while. Hope all is well with you:) Thank you for sharing your personal stories of Everyday, TMMS, and Love Is. Regardless of what others think about these song I always think it's so wonderful when these songs have personal significance for us fans and I love hearing the stories (I can't wait to hear how Jane has touched someone!). Never let anyone else's opinions of these songs take away their deep meaning for you, please!

I have friends not really into FM/SN, except for the big hits, and they all love Love Is.

:oNever, I repeat never apologize for being passionate about Stevie in whatever way you choose! she means what she means to you, and that's all that's important! Welcome back btw!:wavey:

Golly Gee- Thanks for the advice-
I hadn't thought of that!!
And here I was being polite and explaining my mistake in thinking that you were Curtis.
You most certainly are not he...He would not respond in such a rude and elementary manner!
:( Thats a little harsh... StreetAngel was just saying that maybe you should listen to the album & make your own (informed) descision instead of taking other peoples word for it!
^^ Unless of course you were joking ((sometimes its hard to tell because you can't see the people and if they are serious or not!)) and the joke just went way over my head... in which case... carry on!
I happen to like Street Angel (the album)... its not my favourite, but its definatly up there!

Eclipse: don't you dare patronize me. if you were offended by my post. that was not my intent. I was just making general observation. how can you have an opinion based on something you haven't even heard? if you want to think songs are **** just because everyone tells you so...go on believing that. but don't go around telling ME what an ORIGINAL opinion when I am not the one who can be told what to think.

Relax....86
I was just being a little snippy, and scarcastic. If you read any of my other posts it is just what I do...I did not mean to offend you, and I am sorry if I did.
I was trying to make pony-boy Curtis look like a hero, and the PERFECT gentleman, and he hasn't even responded to this thread
(at least I don't think he has)....
Anyway, I guess the joke is on me, now :wavey:
keep dreaming-

Not sure if this is a popular or an un-popular "Stevie opinion" but -
Stevie's demos are often better than the final product on the record or cd.

And then tell depressing ghost stories and listen to the Street Angels stand outside and call to us.

That reminds me of the Hallowe'en when my friend and I met up, she was Death in a long black cape with a hood and scythe, I was there in full Stevie garb [of course].
Her mum realised they'd run out of milk ... so ... the pair of us headed down to the corner shop. Death walking along beside Rhiannon, scythe in one hand, pint of milk in the other.
We got a few odd looks to say the least...

Okay, how about this for a "Popular Stevie Opinion?"
Stevie said that she loved Lindsey - - -
and that she always will...
In fact, she BEGGED him to keep her,
in that house on the hill.
And now, she's "looking out for love... (YEAAAAHHHHH...")

By the way I think it's a "double-meaning," too - Still like, "quiet," but also playing on, like, a "still" that people use to make alcohol - symbolism and all that... Then again, my imagination runs away sometimes - I think "Bella Donna" is a TRIPLE meaning!

HSML is very sexual and I love it. She does say "hold still my love" at the end of one of the many demos and usually always says it, at the end, when she sings it live. Hearing her purr "how..still....how still.....HOLD still MY LOVE" was rocking hot. She was very into the sexy/sensual vibe and it was sweltering.
