Which great literary character does Stevie most resemble to you?

1. The batty, profound Miss Flite from "Bleak House"

2. The beautiful wisp Daisy Buchanan from "The Great Gatsby"

3. The embittered, self-insular & insane Miss Havisham from "Great Expectations"

4. The wealthy, strong-willed Leonora Ashburnham in "The Good Soldier"

5. The stoical, searching Mary Follet in "A Death in the Family"

A Charles Dickens character, with her top hat and her scarf.I knew you were gonna say that, Pete! Funny thing is, I can't think of a single Dickens female character in top hat & scarf. :o

Either can I, but it's the first thing that popped into my head, and Stevie wrote it, so it must be true:)

I don't know if this would count as a "great litterary character" but I have always seen Stevie as a Scarlett O Hara. She even makes the connection herself in the song Welcome to the Room... Sara.

How about "A Charles Dickens Character, in her top hat and her scarf?"

Sorry, couldn't resist.

OH - somebody else had already said this - oops! OH well, I'll leave the picture, at least...

Scarlett is far more brash than Stevie. Stevie would have died of guilt if she did some of the things Scarlett O'Hara did. She could never have stolen her sister's fiance, and I can't see her throwing dirt in Jonas Wilkerson's face.

Miss Havisham is what Stevie would have become if she had never recovered after her spiritual bankruptcy of the early nineties. Alone in her mansion, unable to recover from the devastation of lost past loves. Thankfully that fate was averted.

I don't think this is literature and I'm not sure why or if it makes sense, but she somehow reminds me of Norma Desmond only when I hear the song "With One Look." The role itself doesn't apply to her.

Actually I may be wrong but I was under the impression that she wrote that song upon entering Betty Ford for detox- She signed herself in as "Sara Anderson" and "Welcome to the Room Sara "is about her stay there-It's not home and it's not Tara, can somewhat connect her to Scarlet but I think that she is feeling very far removed form Scarlett and the charms of Tara. She is institutionilized, yikes!
I hearlthe song, and it is about herself, refering to herself as Sara
Just my 2 cents...

I think she most identifies with her "Rhiannan mythology"

May not be the greatest literary figure...Sometimes I like to think that she thinks she is Glinda the good witch from OZ, or perhaps Alice through the looking glass.., A street urchin gypsy of days of yore, or Garbo or many of the other charachters she has said that she identifies with. But, as someone mentioned Norman Desmond (shutters) -although lets hope she doesn't get to that extreme!!

Me, I see her as wanting and needing to be "Rhiannan"

I think she holds all the ideals of Stevie's wishes...
That beautiful- That unique-That mystical That stong- That mysterious-
That seductive to men-That magical-That seductive -That confident-That free...
The unforgetable spirit that reaches into our soul, that we can never forget and never hold on to, that we can never have her....

I think that is how she would like to be remembered-
That is what I see when I see her perform or even in interviews-she is very guarded in how much of herself she gives away
~~ always leave them wanting an answer to yet anothrer question~~

I see her as a mixture of:
Berma (A la recherche du temps perdu - Marcel Proust)
Julia Lambert (Theatre - Somerset Maugham)
Mary Turner (The Grass is singing - Doris Lessing)
Portia (The Merchant of Venice - Shakespeare)
Laurel Hand (The Optimist's Daughter - Eudora Welty)

... and some more.

*I too see Stevie as Daisy from Great Gatsby
*As the beautiful and proud Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice
* I see a bit of Cinderella in her too (think about it...how she began...what she dreamed of...the clothes  )
*Stevie reminds me a bit of Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca (course that may mostly be the beauty too LOL)
*She is a deep thinker, a dreamer and tries to keep the peace as Atticus does in To Kill a Mockingbird

**Again....you're getting a Literature teacher's opinion
