Smack in the middle of the 36-45 folk. I've been a Fleetwood Mac fan since I was about 11 and my first album was Rumours. My first ever concert was on the Rumours tour. My brother got us third row in front of Lindsey.... and I've never been the same. :)
It never ceases to amaze me how every note of their music is still just as enjoyable as the first time. They just don't seem to get old... in my book. As I tell anyone who will listen, their stuff (even pre-B/N) is light years better than anything released by the "wanna-bees" of recent. Such a wonderful combination of musicianship, lyrics, songs, vocal arrangements, etc., etc.
They just don't make 'em like that anymore.... to say the least.

I'm 15. :o
I'm generalizing but I think there are two fan age groups. Those 46 and up that remember FM the first time around (I'm not meaning pre BN) and 20 somethings that picked up on FM with the 1997 Dance DVD or listened to their parents records. I know people in their 30's that never heard of FM or Nicks.
I'm 15. :o
Hi Karlie, we're LA neighbors. Curious. Please tell us why a 15 y.o. would have any interest in ancient rockers like FM and Stevie Nicks. Do you like the Beatles, Stones, and Beach Boys too?

none of the above.
i'm turning 36 in a couple of months. i discovered FM in 1987 when i was 17 and heard seven wonders and little lies - and decided i HAD to see them live. and so i did. and i was hooked.

Hey. The question is, why would I not have any interest in 'ancient' rockers? They're so much better than stuff like Ashlee Simpson and Fall Out Boy, or whatever the kids listen to these days. The 'ancient' musicians I like actually have talent.
And yes, I like the Beatles and Stones; not so much the Beach Boys, though.

Here here! 17 year old checking in here...Stones tickets for Sydney show go on sale on Friday!:blob2:
I would hardly call them ancient rockers either, people like Fleetwod Mac, The Stones, Beach Boys (Well Brian Wilson) and Paul McCartney are still releasing new, relevant material today.
I think you would be surprised about the number of younger people not in to pop crap, those are however just a very vocal group of people.

I saw Paul back in November -- if you ever get the chance to see him, GO. I'm still amazed four months later. Right up there with a Mac show in my book... it was fabulous.
I am (since I don't mind revealing my age) going to turn 30 in June, so I voted the 26-35 group.
I became a fan of Stevie's around the time Rooms on Fire came out (I was about 13 then) and I also had Tango in the Night.
But I guess I belong to the group that really got hooked after the Dance.

They were pretty popular in a number of local markets (local what?), notably Birmingham, Alabama. But I don't think they fared very well around their home base of Los Angeles, and obviously they never achieved any level of national fame.

I'm 17 (18 in July) been into Fleetwood Mac on many levels since "Say you Will".
I thought/think that the album, say you will goes deeper musically and Lyrically than any other album that has come out in the last 10 years be it Fleetwood Mac or any other artist. It's been in my top 3 favourite albums (Along with the Dance and Rumours) ever sicne it was released. I think it's the best work the Mac have ever done and that's what got me into them (off course I backtracked from that album and bought every other release and discovered my favourite band) It's just my opinion I LOVE SYW as many other's on the forum have a passion for it and all things post Dance it seems but I have to admit the Dance-present era is my favourite Mac era.
I don't think it's unsuall for a 17 year old to like the Mac I know loads of people my age that know them through there parents and like a few songs plus I know one other finatic. The Best of is always in our UK top 40 album charts so it obviously selling to new and old fans alike.

I was talking to someone who said he saw them in '69 with this amazing guitarist Peter Green who "died a few years after that." I kind of quirked my eyebrow and said, "So you saw them before Stevie and Lindsey joined?" He said, "Well Stevie had joined, but, the other one, she hadn't yet." Hmmm... I didn't really try to set him straight, but it didn't escape me that as a nineteen year old I know more about the band than this guy (who has been to three concerts since '69) does. Ah well, I'm sure there are fifty year olds who know more about the Backstreet Boys than I do.

Stevie is a very, very good singer, she sings very well with other people, and I've never heard anyone use their voice in such an innovative and unusual way.
I concentrate on her singing, I LISTEN to the most amazing vocal instrumentalist I've ever heard - I do not concentrate on her twirling chiffon. So happens, lucky for her and us, that she's an absolute knockout with charisma up to her eyeballs - doesn't lessen her talent. And, personally, I loved Stevie's voice for years and years and years before I ever saw her or knew her name. THAT is substance over style. Not that the choices have to be one or the other; they can coexist in one person, and do. It's substance and style, that very rare, very special commodity.
In short, stuffit. :woohoo:

On the subject of this thread, I got hooked on Mac in 1986. My friend's dad had the Rumours LP, I was a big F1 racing fan (The BBC used "The Chain" as the theme for years), he also had Mirage live on laserdisc and it was when the Tango hype was building and it was due for release..
It's interesting that the age group I would most associate with this band (50+) is almost non existent (David is wonderfully here to hold the older end up, soon to be joined by another famous ledgie ;) ). I guess either a lot of the more mature Mac fans are not really that interested anymore or they just don't know how the internet works?!?!

Oh and what happened to your Turner avatar...what's with the Strat?? If you're not going to use the Turner as your avatar, at least use a photo of your Suhr. :)
Yes, the Suhr is lovely!

I am a well-preserved 63-year-old, the eldest of the elders among Ledgies.Well the joke was on me. Speaking of preservation btw, you have a long way to go to catch Lenin.
Wow. You've got it worked out to the actual date.
It was the first time I saw the 'clip' of Go your own way. I was only 10 then but liked the way Stevie looked...
GYOW was FM's second #1 hit in the Netherlands, after 'Oh well (pt. 1)' in 1969.

19-25 age group here. I love LOVE how FM appeals to every age group. I always see it as a sign of decent music when I see people of all ages attending a band's concert.
It concerns me when an artist's audience is made up of clones.Trends are a thumbs-down for me.

Well, I guess it's nice to belong to that target group of thirtysomethings that was supposedly FM's main audience during the biggest success of Rumours. Only thing is: I ain't divorced yet. :p

This is my first post here! I'm 19 and have clear memories of my parents playing Fleetwood Mac records when I was very young, but it's only in the past year or so that I've started buying the records myself.
As for other music that I like, I'm a big fan of Robbie Williams and a few other 'new' artists, but you can't beat the 'oldies', my favourite bands being ABBA, the Mac and Blondie. :)
Great to see another Brit on the board! Welcome!

My parents have always played The Dance since I was wee, but I only got properly into them when I decided to buy Rumours on an impulse.

Like I used to say, I was born the year Rumours came out! :D I had heard some of their songs on the radio when I was growing up, but I really didn't get into them until my senior year of high school -- 1996 to be exact, which was just a year before the reunion tour. (Why I didn't go see them live when I had the chance, I have no idea!)

Sadly not  My parents went to the Belfast date and came back saying "That is the best concert I've ever seen, they are all such great showmen" I wish I'd been able to go because the chances of them doing Belfast again are slim so I'll probably have to fly to England to see them if they don't do Ireland. Did you get to see any of them?

Nope, me neither! I didn't become a fan until a few months after they'd been and gone.
But I'm kind of nervously optimistic about them coming back. If they do England I'm sure they'll come back here -- they have a good fanbase and apparently the bands like doing gigs here because the crowds and welcome are good.
Let's hope!

This is a cool thread. Ok I want to rant right now about how I became a Mac fan so beware.....
First of all I am 19 and have heard FM throughout my life never really knowing who they were. My first experience with their music was "Don't Stop." My mom used to take me to Chuck E Cheese when I was about 6-8 a lot and they would play Chuck E's version of Don't Stop whenever I was there lol. Talk about overkill!
So then at the age of 11 the television was left on VH1 and they were playing "The Dance". I wasn't paying attention until I saw Stevie singing Sliver Springs. It was weird because at the time I was into the spice girls (yeah I know) and all that other 1997 poppy crap. But it was something about Stevie that I adored right away and I still never even knew who she was or the name of the song until years later.
By the time I was 13 I had finally found out that FM sang "Don't Stop" because my uncle (he has been a fan since the 70's) was playing them one day. At the time I thought the song was corny so I brushed FM aside after my Uncle tried to get me to listen to their stuff. About a year later I was listening to the radio and stumbled up on a song that sounded familiar. I started listening to the words and recognized the part in Sliver Springs that went "And don't say that she's pretty, and did you say that she loved you." When the song was over they said the song was called Sliver Springs by FM and I could not believe it was by them. So I downloaded the song and then decided to check out some of their other songs. But it wasn't until I was about 16 or 17 that I really got into their music when I bought "The Very Best Of" because I loved "Dreams" "Rhiannon" "Gypsy" and "The Chain". Soon after I started to really like Chris and Lindsey's songs on the CD. I still consider myself a newbie fan since I am learning more about the members of the band and their music. Ok I'm done with my rant! :)

Oh Wow Dreamz19 thats a cool into to mac. As Stevie once said "Silver Springs is a great old song". My first intro to the mac was when I was really young and even still in the womb lol. My Dad has always loved 'Rumours'. I've always loved that album. Infact the first song i used to sing along to was 'Dreams'. My parents got divorced when I was 7 so i had NO FLEETWOOD MAC ALBUMS!!! In 1997, I went with my Dad and his then current girlfriend to see Fleetwood Mac on the dance tour - I was hooked. Then, a few months later when we were having our attic converted into a bedroom I found a load of old vinyl's and tapes. 'Rumours' and 'Mirage' were among the tapes and 'Other Side of the Mirror' was among the LP's. That was it basically. I have been a fan ever since and slowley built up the entire mac/Stevie studio album collection plus the "Mirage live" video, "Tango in the Night" video, "White Wing Dove - Stevie Nicks Live" video and of course, The Dance DVD. The last Fleetwood Mac album I bought was Time. I didn't even know it existed until my Uncle mentioned it. I had Fleetwood Mac, Rumours, Tusk, Mirage and Tango on tape and then updated them all onto CD (in the case of Rumours and Tusk, 2 disc digitally remastered cd) and Behind the Mask was the only album I ever bought on CD first. Well thats my Mac story...

Hey Wild Heart :] I am glad you liked it. I always love hearing how people got into FM and it is nice to share my story. A lot of my friends aren't any into them so they could care less about my story lol.
But it is cool that your Dad introduced you to FM. I wish I could share that love with my Dad but he is mostly into Jazz. So tell me...what is your fav Mac album?

OMG - Rumours without a doubt. Whenever we go out for a drive I put my Mac albums on in the car and me, my Dad and my sister drive around for hours singing away to mac and stevie. My fav mac album is Rumours - undeniable although I love them all. They are all so different. There is something so different about each mac album and not one sounds the same. I don't think I could choose a favourite song. I love Stevie's vocal on 'Gypsy' and 'Angel'. I think 'Sara' would board the boat as my favourite simply because of the effort that went into that song and how much emotion comes through in her voice. My favourite Stevie album is (unless you haven't guessed) 'The Wild Heart' but 'Edge of Seventeen' is my favourite song. You?

I'm 24. I've always liked 70s progressive rock, and I've known a lot of friends & family who like classic pop/rock. So I have heard Fleetwood Mac songs for pretty much all of my life. I always considered them to be a somewhat better-than-average pop group. If I heard one of their songs on the radio, I wouldn't angrily switch to another station, but I wouldn't crank it up and sing along, either.
And then, about 6 months ago, I was looking through my dad's CD collection and found "Tusk". The first song I heard, obviously, was "Over and Over". It seemed like a rather typical FM song on the surface, but something about it was a little...weird. In a good way. Of course, that was nothing compared to what the rest of the album had in store.
I was utterly amazed to hear--from what I thought was an average pop band--music that sounded like nothing I've heard before. I sat down and listened to it 3 times in a row. I can't believe that Tusk doesn't seem to be very popular or widely discussed anymore. I guess it alienated a lot of mainstream fans, whereas FM's radio-friendly image turned off people with more esoteric tastes. And that's a shame.
At any rate, I'm glad I found out about it. :) Since then I've bought and enjoyed a few more FM albums, along with "Go Insane" and "Out of the Cradle". And I also began to appreciate the musicianship behind "The Chain", "Gold Dust Woman", and other such songs that I've heard (but never *listened to*!) a zillon times before.
