The song is called "On An Island" from his forthcoming album "On An Island" released on 6th March 2006, which incidentely coincides with David's 60th birthday.
David is embarking on a small tour of 25 dates, 10 of which are in the United States. Tickets are sold out for every venue. The tickets that went on sale for the US shows sold out every venue in one minute so it's safe to say he's still popular. I think Pink Floyd's final performance at Live 8 (which I was lucky enough to be up the front for) has raised David's exposure once more. Indeed he was recently voted the number one Fender player of all time by Guitarist magazine. The first time anybody has pushed Hendrix off top spot.
Each day leading up to the release of the album you can see and hear a clip from the recording process on David's official site. www.davidgilmour.com
If you are interested, you can hear a Radio 2 concert performance by David on the BBC Radio 2 website on March 11th. He is recording it on March 7th in London. He then embarks on a short US tour before coming back to Europe and finishing at the Royal Albert Hall (I'll be there! :blob1: ) with 3 nights at the end of May..

I live in the area where you have, at least, 17 country stations...3 pop CRAP stations, 2 alternative stations & 2 classic rock stations.
So why bother? If I feel the need to listen to radio I will turn on Sirius since it is part of my DishNetwork subscription.

It's the voice.. Precisely the point I was trying to make about Stevie Nicks's commercial success as a solo artist versus Lindsey's failure in another thread. Stevie's solo work makes the casual listener think "it's Fleetwood Mac" because of the distinctive voice and to a degree the style of music, whereas Lindsey just doesn't. With Gilmour it's a "double whammy" as Amercians would say because of the guitar sound and style too.
It's interesting to note that both David Gilmour and Roger Waters are touring this year. Gilmour's tour posters say "The voice and guitar of Pink Floyd" and Water's posters say "The creative genius of Pink Floyd"

Waters' Dark Side
Updated 03:01 PST Mon, Feb 27 2006
Pink Floyd's Roger Waters has announced a European tour, along with the promise of a full performance of his former band's album Dark Side Of The Moon in France.
The confirmed concerts start with an appearance at Portugal's Rock In Rio - Lisbon festival June 2. From there, he'll do at least 10 dates in Italy, Germany, Iceland, Norway, Greece and Denmark, staying on the road through July 12.
According to Waters' official Web site, the former Pink Floyd bassist/vocalist will be joined by ex-bandmate Nick Mason on drums for a live version of Dark Side Of The Moon. The site does not specify whether the event will be a one-off or a tour, stating simply, "Somewhere in France. This summer."
Details are expected shortly.

David Gilmore will also be in Toronto Canada in April or May too .I can;t remember the date now..I wasn;t able to get tickets as it sold out pretty fast...If any of you are PF fans I highly recommend you check out Austrailian Pink Floyd Tribute Band http://www.aussiefloyd.com/
if you ever get the chance to see them when they are in the country. They are really really good..next best thing to the Floyd..They have even played for David Gilmore and boys.Right now they are in the Uk for March .and April but will be returning to us and canada in the fall I think...My husband is a big PF fan and he was blown away how good these guys were!..The back up singers...the guy sitting next to me..said "Man thats not a voice thats a beautiful instrument"...Don't miss them...you'll be sorrrrrryy..

LOL!::lol:
Anyway, having spent many years as a Pink Floyd fan , I certainly like David Gilmour, but if I had to choose between the two shows, that would be Roger Waters without.second.thought.
I have already posted this on another thread, but I 've got to say that I was soooo in love with him when I was younger (much to the frustration/confusion of all my friends going like "but isn't David Gilmour much prettier than the other one?" ). I don't know what it was. I guess what got me hooked was that Roger Waters wrote and sang songs such as "Nobody Home" - it breaks my heart every single time..

Graham Nash and David Crosby are on the single of "On An Island", as they are also featured in the music video for the song, Which I just saw completely about 20 minutes ago on VH1 Classic (The video showed mostly in the studio footage of Mr.Gilmour & company creating the album).
Speaking of VH1 Classic, no less than 10 minutes after the video for "On An Island" was the live in concert video of Fleetwood Mac's "Sara" from the Tusk Doctumentary...First time I have seen this video on VH1 Classic.

I have tickets to see him at the Kodak here in Los Angeles. I saw him in 1984 at the Universal Amp.. I was 15...
Anyway he is the classiest guitar player and a very unique vocalist.

Hey! I went to that show too! Well, I don't recall whether or not there were several nights of shows, so maybe it was a different night. Bobbye Hall was the percussionist.

I think the fact Pink Floyd played at Live 8 was the deciding thing. He's fresh in the voters minds right now. The "film about Jimi Hendrix" documentary has just been rereleased on DVD remastered. If the voting public had watched this I think the result may probably have been different.
They are both geniuses.
p.s. As I type this I'm watching "Keep Talking" from the Pink Floyd "Pulse" concert at Earls Court 1994. :] :) :wavey:

The "release" of Pulse on DVD has been something of a joke.. It's been announced and pulled so many times in the past two years.. It is announced now that it will be released on 9th October 2006. This has been confirmed as the final official release date. ( )
On another note.

Hola, I've been to the first concert of the tour in Dortmund yesterday and it was amazing! A cool light show, a very small venue (about 1000 people) and a really sucky audience (me and my girlfriend belonged to the 5 people who standing up for applause)! The setlist was had a few surprises, for example a 20 minute version of Echoes, he played two tracks from DSOTM (which I didn't expect him to, because he didn't on the 2000 "tour".
The first set was a full version of "On An Island". A few accoustic pieces, but most of them rock! Pretty interesting, but a few songs sounded too much like the others.
After a 15 minutes break he played the promised "goldies" (as he described them at the beginning of a show), which started with Shine On (pretty good, and not accoustic as on the the DG DVD), followed by some other older songs like Wot's...Uh The Deal (1972) & Wearing The Inside-Out (1994). This was followed by 2 great DSOTM songs Breathe and Time (without On The Run in the middle). After that he played an old Syd Barrett song called Dominoes (like on the 2002 DVD and The Pink Floyd & Syd Barrett Story) and High Hopes! This big surprise of the evening was a complete version of Echoes, I actually couldn't believe my ears when he played the bloody 20 minute piece and the rock part was really amazing with the light effects. He left for a minute and came back for the encores, Wish You Were Here and Comfortably Numb (my fav).
It was a great show and during the break, the sound technics played a bit of the weird introduction for Run Like Hell (that one noise, I have no idea what it is), so maybe on the next show he will play 3 encores: Wish You Were Here/Comfortably Numb/Run Like Hell (as on the Division Bell Tour)!
Anyways, those who got a ticket are pretty lucky!
For those who are too bored to read this, here's a short song summary:
1st Set:
Castellorizon
On An Island
The Blue
Take a Breath
Red Sky at Night
This Heaven

The new stuff is okay! Well, of course I expected to hear something more psychedelic, like in the old days, but I don't think he prefers it that much solo! I really like On An Island (cute mellow song) and Take A Breath rocks pretty much too, but that's basicly it with the new songs! All in all it is a very good pop album, I wouldn't settle it in the genre of rock! 4,1 of 5 stars
At the moment I am just wondering if I should buy tickets for Roger Waters in June in Berlin! I heard he is going to perform DSOTM start to finish and that could be exciting too! But I am kinda scared he might perform his new opera!
