Stevie goes her own way

by Shannon Willoughby

SONGTRESS Stevie Nicks dragged her heart to the Gold Coast and gave her soul to the crowd at the convention and exhibition centre last night.

The 57-year-old Fleetwood Mac star looked and sounded years younger as she rocked a once-only solo Coast performance.

The 2000-plus crowd - an eclectic mix of young and old - grooved to old favourites from the Phoenix-born singer, who opened with Outside The Rain, followed by Dreams.

Wearing all black, the blonde, gypsy-like singer jovially welcomed an almost full house after her opening songs.

She then belted out epic hits including Rhiannon and Gold Dust Woman before moving to her gentler collection, including Landslide and Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You.

Backed by her band and minus Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham, Nicks moved gracefully across the stage and sang with polished confidence.

Her stand-outs were the more energetic songs, including Enchanted, Stand Back and Stop Draggin' My Heart Around.

Nicks will perform in Newcastle, Sydney, Perth and then Adelaide before flying to Auckland for her New Zealand tour.
