Since I'm in a good mood, I figure I'll share some recordings I have. I'm sure many of you have them, too, but, there ARE new people here, too.
A live "Silver Springs" from 1977 (http://s39.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=06WZPSRRW3S8Z27K5XC66GX676)
Christine singing "Gypsy" (http://s39.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3V69UUZ4XPE2D2TZN22CA97J91)

Great clips! Btw - was Christine's Gypsy a sound check? Kinda sounds like one - with Stevie not available to do it.

Here, here. Creepy for sure. Like it's running away from a glue factory on Three Mile Island.

Very Cool - thank you so much, Silver Springs is my favorite Stevie song, and I had never heard this! I didn't take very good car of my little Japanese b-side — played it so much it sounds like it was pressed in the 20's!
David, that horse is so wild, and I can't stop staring at it. I wonder, did you use a Zoopraxiscope to shoot that? :D

Ha! It's a wonder they didn't lose her to spontaneous combustion, like the drummers in Spinal Tap. POOF!
Anyway, I had to come back to the thread because that cut was so amazing. Has she said "even though you tried" at the end of other versions? I don't remember that. I want want want to timetravel and see that performance!

Incredible, isn't it? And Lindsey's solo is a perfect dash, "Oh yeah? Well take this!" Mick's drumming also lifts the song to some incredible heights, pushing it up from underneath like a series of cresting waves.
How much of an orchestra did they have behind them at this point? The band sounds very full on this recording, but in a way that seems totally organic, which makes it very powerful.

hmm, you say what I wanted to say. Stevie is brilliant and passionate, and Lindsey is so good filling it with pure rawness. I love it when he's forced to do it on intuition and not in an "orchestral" disciplin. Same for mick.
sigh....good times...

I have the same performance (slightly different quality though) on a bootleg labeled Kansas 4-1-77. :)Yeah, the mystery show. It's mislabeled. On April 1, the band was actually in an airplane flying over the Atlantic to Europe, where they opened their European leg the next day in Birmingham, England.

No other musician was onstage playing through the entire set the way they have it set up nowadays.
Ray Lindsey played acoustic/rhythm guitar on a few tunes. Maybe he played on Silver Springs, but I doubt that's what you're hearing. He's unobtrusive, & may not even be playing at all on this song. You're hearing just the four members of Fleetwood Mac playing their instruments ... on a really crappy, destroyed recording (not Steve's fault--it's everybody's copy).
A lot of times, the sound of our live recordings affects the way we hear it, & I think even makes a difference in terms of whether we like the performance or not.

Maybe they got caught in the Bermuda triangle. :wavey:Imagine if the whole band had been killed in a plane crash on April 1, 1977, on their way to Europe.
Imagine their legacy. It would be quite a bit different: we'd have all the albums from 1967 to Rumours, & all the tours from the beginning up through about a month of shows in the United States -- the first leg of the 1977 tour. Lindsey would have died with his shaggy hair & beard. Stevie would have died with her crimped haircut & her slim, sexy body. Christine would have died in the midst of her sex affair with Curry the lighting director. John would have died pining for Linda Ronstadt. Mick would have died still trying to figure out whether to live with Jenny & his kids.

Wow, Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, Bob Welch, Bob Weston, & Dave Walker would've been on the plane, too?

We wouldn't have had Tusk, Bella Donna, The Wild Heart, Tango in the Night or The Dance. What we would have missed...

I'm not really sure. I downloaded the thing so long ago, I don't really even remember where I got it! All I know is THAT'S my favorite version of the song. It's always fun hearing a band with a little G.D. passion every now and then. It's performances like THAT that made Fleetwood Mac legendary!
