I think they killed all the people who went to the concert, so they couldn't come back right away and give us results.

Damn. We should really started considering wind-powered cars if the stuff can really get up to 50 mpg.

I was just thinking about the thread I started a while back considering what Stevie or the Mac would sound like with a symphony orchestra, how it would be received, I'd sort of forgotten about it.
I guess now we'll find out!

Hi All,
Just back to Sydney from last nights show.
Having not seen Stevie solo since she was in Sydney for Rock A Littl, I've got to say I thought she was amazing. My wife isn't a huge fan (maybe because I'm a bit obsessed) but she said she never heard her sound so good and be so in to it. She was just fantastic. Every song sounded fresh. I liked Rhiannon again after years. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourites and was just awesome so was my other fave Beautiful Child which she said she couldn't do do when she had the chance to have an orchestra. It blew the Mac one from the Say You Will tour away.
Lori Nicks was back singing (just for the 3 weeks Oz tour).
The songs were mixed between band or band + orchestra - sometimes it was hard to tell which was which expect from the ballads where you really heard the strings and flutes. I didn't get a chance to get a copy but I saw the headlines of a review over someone's shoulder on the flight from Melbourne and it said somethign about Stevie Charms but orchestra not used enough or something like that.
I'd pretty much used more money than I should have getting my wife and I to Melbourne, gettings childredn looked after for the weekend and getting what were supposed to be good seats. I'd decided that Melbourne would be my only concert. I'd been regretting that I didn't try to get tp a Sydney show. After last night though, I think she made such an effort on every song (there were lots of Stand Back twirls and the kick) that I thought I just wouldn't top that concert and with 20 years between gigs down here I'm not likely to see her again.
For me it's going out on a real high.

Oh and I should have added they were filming it for DVD or at least recoding it.
At the end of BATB she asked anyone who wanted to to remain behind while they rerecorded Outside the Rain and Dreams because the soundtrack had been ruined. She said there would be hell to pay.
She ended up doing them with her hair up and in her BATB fur neck outfit so not sure if they just wanted the soundtrack or what.
I think it was even better the second time and she said at the end so much better once we've got the disco going.
All the best

As I say it wasn't always that easy to tell and I didn't really note it song for song. The conductor who was pretty funny anyway. He spent half the time watching the show with a huge smile on his face. When Waddy was doing the intro for Edge the conductor starting doing signs to the audience.
I think all the Mac ones plus OTR, Edge, all the ballads.
The backgrounds were pretty cool too but they are probably the same as you got in the States. No one could take their eyes off all the photos during Landslide.

So, but - how did Edge sound with the orchestra?
GregOz
02-18-2006, 10:57 PM
It's really hard to judge because part from listening to bootlegs I only have Edge 20 years ago to compare it to.
I think whenever Stevie had her whole band playing it really was the band sound and it probably doesn't sound that much different. The sound was probably a lot bigger and a lot richer because of the band though but then I can't really be sure how it would have sounded otherwise. I think Waddy can probably out-play the whole orchestra anyway.
Sorry to be so vague. After years and years of living Stevie concerts via everyone else on websites like this - I turn around and can't really explain it all exactly. It's just so overwhelming.
The overall impact of the whole show was absolutely mind blowing and to me caps off following her solo and with the Mac for 30 years.
Of course, I'll be just as interested to hear other people's take who were there and especially some of the die-hards making the trip from overseas who have a wealth of first hand experience to compare it against.

Top hat with red feathers for Rock and Roll encore and maybe a plain black one somewhere else during the show too.
Yeah we've waited 20 years but if you compare the rock and little setlist and this setlist and take into account that BC was just done on the Mac tour here then there's been a change of about 4 or 5 songs but I'm a big fan of IAF so I was pleased to see that and Sorceror was great too - I think maybe the orchestra accompanied it too.
I not a huge fan of FFG but it really did rock and she went all out.
The questions are great it forcing me to remember the details.

This is my first post - I have been lurking about for months - but seeing as I went to the concert last night I thought I should join in the fun.
I'm only 24 so the only time I have seen Stevie perform is a couple of years ago with FM. So last night was the first time I had seen her perform solo and also the first time I had seen the MSO.
Her vocals were the best I have ever heard - I have the concert DVDs she has done before...and she was even better in my opinion that she was in The Dance DVD. She was certainly better than when she was out here with FM, and she seemed to be really enjoying herself. She has still got it - I was afraid she might have lost it...but no :blob2:
The MSO was brilliant although looking back on it could have been utilised a bit better - the band seemed to drown them out at some points. But in saying that it has made me want to go and see the MSO perform because when you could hear them they were incredible.
There was a review in The Age (a Melbourne paper) today that said as a Stevie Nicks and band concert it was excellent...if I can find it online, i'll post it...or type it out long hand.
The highlights for me were
- Stand Back - she really gave it her all, and let loose. The audience were ecstatic.
- Beautiful Child - having listened to Tusk ALOT I couldn't believe that she actually was singing it. It would be one of my favourite songs - and the orchestra was a stand out here it would be worth buying the DVD just to hear it again.
- Gold Dust Woman - vocally in this she was almost perfect.
- Edge of Seventeen - it's true the conductor and the orchestra really got into it, it was great.
-Landslide - the photographs etc in the background were beautiful, and for a song I usually shy away from I had tear in my eyes by the end.
From memory she wore...
At the start the plain black top hat outfit...she looked incredible.
The usual dress and shawl enesemble - utilised well during GDW.
The hat and outfit she wore to the Melbourne Cup.
Beauty and the Beast outfit that someone referred to before, with her hair up.
I know a few of you were hoping for a new setlist, or something 'new' as such. But for us Aussies here that may not see her perform again - it was a very magical evening.:woohoo:
We hope she comes back!

I must admit I was really worried - I got my tickets in November with the last of my savings...so I was hoping it would all be worth it. IT WAS :woohoo:
I love Beautiful Child, I think so many people in the audience were shocked/in disbelief when she pulled it out. I only now wish I had something to sell so I could see her perform again, but I doubt I will see her that good ever again...she was spot on! Still here is hoping she or they come back at least to say good bye :(

Hi Johnny,
The honest answer is I don't know. I was at the start of the second section at the front, so I could see her very well, but her feet were obscured by the sound boxes? However she had her usual 'comfortable pair' on at one point - she may have worn them at the end. I remember she did that when FM did the encore here.
I had the problem of the woman sitting in front of me swooning about in her seat...which I don't usually mind. But she had long hair which she kept flicking back in a few people's face. Plus she obscured Stevie from my view during GDW, which is a favourite of mine - if it were not for security and the lack of scissors in my bag - she may have left with less hair than she arrived with.

Just as a matter of aesthetics, I was secretly hoping the "comfortable shoes" would be nowhere to be found for this performance, as she always looks so much more regal, and her movement seems more fluid, in her platforms.

I couldn't agree more. Bad enough she had them on for the "Live in Boston" DVD. But from the sound of it, she did the boots for part of the show. Better some boots than no boots at all  Hope the DVD happens

Thanks so much for the reviews and the "details"...
I am so glad I asked and was answered.
I am so glad that you both enjoyed the show and had your own Stevie experience...
These posts took the chill out of my bones-
Thanks again:)

Thank you Greg and Lucinda for the great reviews, it really seems it was an unforgettable evening. I knew I should have moved to Australia.

Thanks for taking the time to write all your reviews! We were all patiently waiting   .
Beautiful Child had to be awesome! On a somewhat related note, I was watching The Thorn Birds last night, and this morning I realized that the lyrics to Beautiful Child REALLY apply to that book/mini-series. If you think of the lyrics and what happens in The Thorn Birds you'll see what I mean. Even makes me wonder if Stevie read the book and got the idea for BC from it.
Anyway, glad you all had a great time! :wavey:

I know a few of you were hoping for a new setlist, or something 'new' as such.
It is something new. Backed by an orchestra, some different outfits, and Beautiful Child. Sounds like a great night, thanks for the reviews, I'm totally jealous (and praying that Stevie considers hitting the road in the U.S. again this summer).

I want, I need, I gotta have this dvd. I pray to God she actually releases one this time.
Thanks everyone for the reviews, it really lifts my spirit to hear you talking about it so enthusiastically.
Great to hear that the show was good. I am really pleased Stevie is doing so well in Australia!
Hopefully, we'll get our turn here in the UK!
Does anyone know if all of the Aussie gigs are being recorded, or just Melbourne?
I hope she records all of the shows, does different songs, and compiles the DVD from that material. i think this would be a much better idea than just recording the one show and releasing that (i'm sure those of you who were at that show would probably disagree! but i'm thinking of what would be best for Stevie, at this point in her career!)
I'm quite happy with the setlist she did. Would maybe like to have seen Silver springs in there somewhere. I know it was nailed on THE DANCE DVD, but think it would be interesting to hear it with an orchestra!
Keep the reports coming Aussies

As much as SS would sound good with an orchestra, it's one song that should never be performed without Lindsey. Just wouldn't be the same. JMO.

I'm with BikerChic on this one. You definitely need Buckingham glaring at her across the stage for it to work. As far as I'm concerned, fantastic-sounding though it is, it's a song based on chemistry, its history and who it's about rather than how it actually sounds. Though it would sound great with an orchestra there'd be a psychological void the size of a small country there.
JMO.
By the way -- she'll hit Europe soon. Trust me.

 I'd faint several times on hearing the news. And have continuous nervous breakdowns until the night of the show. And die of a heart attack at the age of 16 during the Stand Back guitar solo. Right in the front row, bam. X_x Just like that.
On my tombstone: Death by Stevie Nicks. She died as she lived. Listening to Stand Back.

What if they took the Lidnsey Doll they're making over in the Rumours board and propped it up on Stage?
"You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you!"
"I think everything goes in cycles. Isn't that weird?!"

Yes Johnny, Stevie most certainly did wear the platform boots, albeit only for a handful of songs.
She began the show in the highest platforms I can remember her ever wearing but I think the short skirt (not to mention the revealing of her upper thighs!) went some way to accentuating their enormity. These disappeared after Dreams and were replaced by the reeboks for the majority of the show (from Rhiannon to Edge Of Seventeen) but when Stevie appeared for the encore of Rock 'N' Roll/Beauty & The Beast, I was able to detect that the platforms were lurking beneath her studded flares! These remained for the re-takes of Outside The Rain and Dreams.
Interestingly enough, in between Rock 'N' Roll and Beauty, Stevie made a mad dash backstage in order to change hats and I have to say it was hilarious glimpsing her sprint across the stage in such clod-hoppers - just brilliant.
Performance wise, this was most definitely the best I have witnessed Stevie be - basically flawless from start to finish. I don't think any of you will believe the magnificence of her vocals on Beautiful Child, Has Anyone Ever Witten Anything For You and Beauty & The Beast - what a treat you have in store once the recording is released!

   WHAT? Stevie was wearing a SHORT skirt? Am I the only one who didn't know this already? Was it a short skirt over pants or was it short skirt ala Bella Donna tour?? If anyone is capable of doing so, I'd LOVE a head-to-toe description.

There are pictures in another thread. The skirt is not that short. :o Shorter than SYW but it is by no means short.

I have the same sensation, somehow I doubt she'd come to Italy preferring England and probably Germany. Oh well, luckily they're not that far. :)
