Thanks, Paula!

If this goes as well as I think...I'll finally be able to contribute to the pet thread! I was drooling over everyone's pets.

Madsen has no idea how much big love I have, yet. ;)

Pees on command!!?? Love it. What's her name?

We'll have to get togther with our poochies. Madsen is supposed to be very good with other dogs. She's currently having an affair with my friends Pug.

Madsen is a Dogo Argentino mix. I need to do some research. Anyone know about Dogo Argentino's?

Also known as "Argentinian Mastiff".

They're BIG dogs...80-100 lbs. About Rottweiler sized.

Yeah...I just read all about the breed...she's a mix (with who knows what) and is 2 years old and weighs 42lbs. I think she has reached her size. The little love.

That's the same thing I think everytime my dog looks at me. I took her, my first dog, two years ago, and she really is my treasure now.

My sweet dog is my heart. You will never regret a moment of it. If you love her, she will love you right back - more than you will ever know.

PS Peeing on command is easy to teach! Mine does it, too. It may be harder with a 2-year-old, but I bet you could. PM me if you want some tips! :wavey:

Okay, I don't want to be a total Debbie Downer here, but I have to ask: Are you home a lot? See here's the thing: I love dogs. Adore them! And I want one soooooo bad that I practically fall to bits whenever I see a dog, but realistically, I work all day, I live alone (and no back yard) and I'm often out, so as much as I want a little doggy, I wouldn't be able to give it that great a doggy life. And yet I still want one.:o
See, but if you are able to get home more frequently during the day and give her plenty of play space, the do it do it do it, because she's a beautiful dog and it sounds like she's already crept into your heart. :)

Good Points Red..Dogs do take alot of time and work but the rewards are so worth it..There isn;t anything sadder than when someone gets a pupper and then realize's they don;t have time .don;t want it..etc..and the baby winds up in the shelter..It breaks my heart..So yes be sure to weigh all the pros and cons...time..vet bills..food...walks..training..vacations...(who can you leave pup with or take with you if you want to go out of town)..Big responsibilties..but the love ohh I wouldn;t trade it for anything in the world..
on a side note..we bought a motorhome for our dogs..LOL>.so they can go wherever we go...cause I will not leave them with anyone....can we say spoiled brats..

yes - dogs are a HUGE commitment. but if you are ready for it - you will not regret it. assume that, with an adult dog, fully house trained, you need to be there to take her out ever 5 hours or so. and i would recommend at least two off-leash park sessions or big walks a day. i can tell you, before i got my dog (and it took me 10 years to be ready for it), i was NEVER home. i'd be gone for 18 hours at a stretch. everything changed the minute she came home - you have to commit to that - and i have never resented one minute of it. she is the best excuse sometimes to leave a boring party, or beg off drinks after work when i'm too tired. and she is the best excuse in the world to spend hours at the beach in the summer, or at the park, or just walking aimlessly around the city. she is also the greatest source of laughter and softness. honestly, how can you have an ounce of anger or frustration with those eyes looking at you? or with a big goofy golden retriever smile (in her case) saying "can we go to the park now? how about now? now? what about now?"

if you are ready for the commitment - go for it. if you work a long work day, hire a dogwalker to come in half way through your day. the result will be a happy, well exercised dog who will not be anxious and bored while you're gone. and who will love you forever.

Thanks again, everyone...especially a couple of you who are the voice of reason.

I'm not into rash decisions, so I'm thinking about everything involved and have been for several years. Madsen will be by my place @ Noon today. It's just an introduction.

On the upside, I do have the time and the ability to bring Maddy to work often and many other places. Here in LA, dogs are welcome in places you would never think. Very dog friendly, especially my neighborhood and there are plenty of dog parks nearby.

Plus the woman who is currently housing her until she is adopted is a friend who has a Pug and they have all gotten very attached, so she has offered to be my official pet sitter if I do have to travel. So the deal gets sweeter and sweeter.

I'll let you know how it all goes after I meet Maddy today!

I rescued these two pussies this past year. One from a shelter and the other from the field behind my house. We're thinking of adopting a dog this summer. I think it's a great idea. Madsen looks adorable

The one in the back is Sadie and the stripped tabby is Sam. I love tabby's, they're my favourite. Ya, I'm surprised they get along so well too, since we got Sadie like 6 months after Sam. They chase each other around the house, which is great exercise for them since they're indoor cats.

I met Madsen today. What a sweet girl! She was a little shy at first, then really warmed up to me to the point of showing me her love. What a face this one has! She really took a liking to me hard. My friend couldn't believe it. Since she is a rescue (from abuse) and the abuse was delt by a male, needless to say she is wary of men. Next thing I know she was giving me her little "love" bites/licks...especially on my neck. It was really great.

She's smart, wonderfully obedient and responsive. We took her for a quick walk (nice healthy pee) and then loaded her in my friends car and she just stared at me through the window. Gaze unyielding. I think she knows.

So I have a week to give it heavy consideration. I'm pretty hooked. I didn't want her to go.

PS
And Bikerchic...sweet kitties!!
