View Full Version : A new way to share songs

I have a good idea. This is a way to get the songs you want, and give songs to other people in the process. It is a give-and-take that will please everyone. The idea is that someone requests a song, and by providing it, you can request a song of your own. Then a third person provides that song, and makes a request of their own. Let's see if this works.
As we are just beginning, no one has requested something yet, so I'll just provide something at random.
This is "Fall From Grace" sung live at the Blockbuster Awards. Everyone should have this stellar performance.

Now, what I would like is the demo of "Beauty and the Beast" where Stevie and Tom Petty are talking about Jean Cocteau's movie. Where she is saying she is going to get a copy of the movie no matter how much it costs.

No, you see, it's a give and take. You share a song of your own at the same time you are making a request. Either a song that someone has already requested, or something else you think people will like.

Judging from the versions I have, Worcester is an unicum about the "hundred years ago". Excluding the "songwriter" variations, she usually said "this is from a record that we did in 1979 called Tusk, with some small changes sometimes like "a very long time ago" or "many many years ago". And besides that, Worcester has always sounded to me a particularly intense rendition of the song... But I love them all.

Geez, I wonder how much Stevie worked this song out before. Is that her playing the piano? It stayed the same in the real song. It's all pretty worked out.

The vocal is wonderful, though.
This Beast is less intense. I like it - as a different emotional entity than the original. I like that slow relaxing groove.
Sometimes original BATB is very overwhelming for me. In a too much beauty and intenseness and otherworldly vocal kind of way.
This vocal is still great, but the song is mellowed out to nice effect. It's kind of sexy. I LOVE john's bass, too, of course.
Thanks, Paula!!

^ You're welcome!
I agree about John's bass. I've been really focusing on his parts lately for a lot of songs, thing I hadn't noticed before. I listened to SYW the other day, cuz I realized I hadn't in a while, and I had always thought that it was the guitar that made RTTG so frantic & desparate & passionate. No. It's John's bass line.

I've been saying that all along. (I don't mean that the way it sounds)
But that is an absolute favorite John song. It's my favorite Stevie song on that album because of it, too. It's all driving and insistent. *wait, did you just say that? Oh, not exactly the same :p * I like the orchestral soaring sound of RTTG, too.
I just listened to the BATB again. Love it.
His part on SOTM = heaven.
