I have been listening to Disc 3 of Enchanted quite a bit over the past few days...do to some ledgies requesting that I give it another try. (I usually just stick to Disc 1...Bella Donna and TWH are DIVINE!) So here are my impressions of the songs...
1. Twisted - Well things get off to a bad start. The released version with Lindsey is fantastic. The demo is TOTALLY lacking.
2. Long Distance Winner - This is the only B/N song that I have ever heard. I like it...especially the lyrics.
3. Thousand Days - Ehh...I skip it.
4. Battle Of The Dragon - Ehh...I skip it.
5. Gold - I was expecting to really like this song...but it just seems to be lacking that extra "something"
6. Free Fallin' - I love this song, but I'm not too crazy about Stevie's version. Almost seems monotone...
7. It's Late - LOVE this song. It almost has a blues feel to it.
8. Violet & Blue - I quite like this. It took me a few listens...
9. Whenever I Call You Friend - What a great song. Kenny and Stevie make a great team for this song...
10. Sweet Girl - This is one of my favorite Stevie songs...EVER! This is not too bad for a last minute demo, although the vocals aren't too stellar. But I much prefer the Fleetwood Mac version...I love the B-3 Organ and the three part harmonies.
11. Blue Lamp - Ehh...I skip it.
12. Gold & Braid - This has become one of my favorite Stevie songs...EVER!
13. Reconsider Me - I like.
14. Somebody Stand By Me - This is one of Sheryl's best songs...and although I don't mind Stevie's version. To me Faith Hill's version will always be the best...Faith's voice fits this song so well.
15. Sleeping Angel - I'm sorry guys...as much as I have listened to this...I just CAN'T get into it. It's not bad...It just doesn't "click" with me.
16. Rhiannon (Piano Version) - Awww...Nice idea Stevie. You know that part about you "sitting down at the piano"...please don't. You should have called Christine over and asked HER to sit down at the piano while you recorded a nice piano version of Rhiannon.

I like Gold. It's got a good driving sort of beat to it. Her voice does sound a bit flat on Free Fallin', but I prefer it to the original... But I CAN'T stop singing It's Late! That song should be called It's Addictive. :)
Don't be dissin' my Sleeping Angel. That was the first Stevie song I remember hearing (watching Fast Times At Ridgemont High) and thinking, "Oh, man, what IS that?" I'd rewind the movie again and again, just to hear that little snippet in the background since I didn't have the soundtrack.
As for the piano Rhiannon... Never did like it much (with the exception of the Birds Rising demo. ) I usually skip it on The Dance. Speaking of which, I've been waking up to the Dance the last few mornings...

You have to completely ignore John Stewart when you listen to this song. I've probably heard it 12 times, and listened to Stevie only the other 11 times.

I love disc three... though i love the songs you skip!!
Twisted: love it, dont think much of the BLB & SN version, love this one
Gold: Love it!
Battle of the dragons & Blue Lamp: MY FAVOURITE tracks from this cd! I really enjoy these! Great songs, at one stage i couldn't get enough and just listened to the same 5 tracks from disc 3 on repeat!
Gold Braid: enjoy this one too, though i seem to find her almost pushing her voice to sing in a lower key.
Rhiannon: Nope certainly dont like this version: shall agree with goldustsongbird, let Christine do the piano!

Glad you're enjoying some of Disc 3. It is absolutely my favorite on Enchanted.
Long Distance Winner is special because it was the only Stevie song my partner liked.
Reconsider Me is a lost treasure that is a million times better than 75% of the stuff on RAL.
I love Gold because my parents played it over and over. Otherwise I might not like it.
I can't stand "Somebody Stand By Me" and haven't listened to it since '98.
I have had a lot of fun pretending to be Stevie pretending to play the piano on Rhiannon.
Sleeping Angel......well, you have a holiday weekend coming up so maybe 3 straight days will get you to love it. ;) For me, it's a total treasure and stirs my heart like nothing else.

Ok, now i can recall some more of the songs from it:
Whenever i call you friend: for some reason this song ****s me, i dont know why i just hate the sound of the start of it... and the rest
Sleeping Angel: cute i like it
Sweet Girl: All i do is compare it to the dance version, and it cant beat it, just sounds like sloppy seconds to my ears... (oh dear im going to get in trouble for that one)

Out of boredom, I'll give my opinions of the songs as well...
1. Twisted - I have to agree with you, Brandon, on this one. LOVE the version from Twister but this demo just stinks.
2. Long Distance Winner - This song is pretty good and is probably Stevie's strongest from Buckingham Nicks, but overall I think "Frozen Love" would've been a better choice.
3. Thousand Days - Even though I no longer count myself among the chiffonheads and my friends and I refer to la Nicks only by the name of a certain farm animal, I still really like this song. It's fast and easy to sing along to and doesn't have the overproduced quality of some of Stevie's other solo work.
4. Battle Of The Dragon - LOVE IT. One of the few Stevie songs with fairly straight forward lyrics and they are excellent lyrics at that.
5. Gold - As are most John Stewart songs, this is an excellent tune. However, I find it strange that this song is even included on the set. It's not a duet, it's just Stevie doing backing vocals and if she's going to include a song like that, I would've preferred something like "Magnet and Steel" instead. But I'm not biased or anything.
6. Free Fallin' - OMFG I hate this version. HATE IT. Pure sacrilege. Stevie never should've touched this one.
7. It's Late - Fun, catchy, but not especially memorable.
8. Violet & Blue - Another good tune but not outstanding.
9. Whenever I Call You Friend - There's something about this song that just grates on my nerves. I can't stand it. I cringe everytime I hear those stupid "ooohhs" at the beginning. And then I skip it.
10. Sweet Girl - Meh, it's okay I guess.
11. Blue Lamp - How the hell does this one go again? (It's been ages since I listened to Enchanted) I can't even seem to recall the music well enough to differentiate it from everything else Nicks has ever done.
12. Gold & Braid - Ditto from the previous one.
13. Reconsider Me - As much as I love Warren Zevon and as much as I generally despise covers (and am not overly fond of Don Henley), I actually really like this one. Somehow it just works better with a woman on vocals.
14. Somebody Stand By Me - Good song. Powerful vocal delivery.
15. Sleeping Angel - Another song that I really like. Stevie stops just short of going off into her usual mystical BS that irritates me so much and I can actually get into this one.
16. Rhiannon (Piano Version) - I just roll my eyes and hit the stop button when I get to this point (assuming I haven't already done so upon reaching something like "Whenever I Call You Friend).
As a whole, this disc contains some of my absolute favorite Nicks offerings but since the rest of the set is pretty much a rehash of Timespace, I still don't think it was worth the sticker price.

Disc three is so great. I think if Stevie doesn't feel like making a new album, she should do another one of these and release a bunch of rarities. My breakdown:
Twisted: Bleh, but demoes usually are to me with a few exceptions, one to come...
Long Distance Winner: Great tune...should have been the lead single for B/N (what was the lead single anyway?)
Thousand Days: should have made Street Angel, i wasn't too into the song until I got into the lyrics "And if the sun warms up the rain, and the rain puts out the sun, why does the greatest love become the greatest pain..."
Battle of the Dragon: another favorite that I didn't like at first, especially due to the sort of chaotic ending, but that kind of MAKES the song
Gold: good but skippable
Free Falling: okay, I may be tarred and feathered for this, but I MUCH prefer this version to Petty's. At least she adds some variation to the melody, and I love the harmonica in it. And the ending is so cool, how she repeats random lines from the verses and bridge.
It's Late: I just like it because it's one of the few songs Stevie sings that I can sing in the same octave as she all the way through.
Violet and Blue: can't quite get into it
Whenever I Call You Friend: damn those two sing this song SO hard, it's great! You just have to get past the opening...
Sweet Girl: one demo that I actually like...The Dance is of course preferable, but one thing it has that The Dance doesn't is the repetition of the second part of the second verse, because I love when she says "YOU ASKED ME!" really hard afterward. Besides, Sweet Girl ends too quickly on The Dance. And I still can't tell if this demo is in a different key than The Dance.
Blue Lamp: It's ok.
Gold and Braid: Rocking, of course
Reconsider Me: Yes, I wish Stevie's ego hadn't gotten in the way of this song being on RAL, and it would have to have been a single/video. I'd love to see the emotion she'd put into this song.
Somebody Stand by Me: can't stand it, although I did have it on while driving one day and it wasn't too, too bad. It's just lacking Stevie-ness.
Sleeping Angel: love it, LOVE the ending, OH OOOOOOOOOOOOH's
Rhiannon Piano Demo: I was scared to death when I saw Storytellers that this was how we were gonna hear Rhiannon in concert from then on.
[QUOTE=Brwn_eyes0511
5. Gold - I was expecting to really like this song...but it just seems to be lacking that extra "something"[/QUOTE]

that one never gets old.
Anyway, I used to listen to disc 3 by far the most. I've been craving some songs off there lately (I'm going to rebuy Enchanted). I've loved Gold since I first heard it in '79, I guess. I lived in California, and it sounded all sexy and famous and I would be a star when I grew up.
Free Fallin - that one "name in the sky" and "world for awhile" make up for any flatness. The original definitely wasn't one of my favorite Petty tunes.
Reconsider Me - it was new to me at the time, and I liked it.
Whenever etc. - I used to think this was the most cheesiest lamest song ever - that was before I knew of Stevie or that she sang on it. ;) Still cheesy, but great harmony and loads of fun to sing along with.
I like all the others, too, except I don't remember getting into Violet and Blue - but this was the phase when I barely knew any Stevie solo non hit songs.

Yeah, because the harmony is hard and interesting. Especially on the "freeeEENDDD!!" part. (that part where the harmony goes higher). It's singing to Stevie - which I absolutely can't resist. I can barely resist singing to all non Stevie songs. I'm singing right now. I sing all day at work. When I'm listening to my ishuffle on BART, I mouth all the words. I sing to songs I don't know, just without words.
etc.

Twisted - Though I prefer the version with Lindsey, this one is great also.
Long Distance Winner - Pure fabulousness. I love the entire BN album to pieces, and this is no exception.
Thousand Days - It's okay, nothing more, nothing less.
Battle Of The Dragon - Mediocre.
Gold Actually one of my least favourite songs in this cd.
Free Fallin' - Though it has some cheesy lyrics, I still think it's a great song. She did a pretty good job. :)
It's Late - LOVE IT. Perfect sing-a-long.
Violet & Blue - Great song! "WITH YOU!" It's a great car song. ;)
Whenever I Call You Friend - Eh, no. I've never liked this one.
Sweet Girl - I love Sweet Girl, but I prefer the live version on The Dance.
Blue Lamp - It's okay.
Gold & Braid - Easily one of my favourite Stevie songs, ever.
Reconsider Me - Love it.
Somebody Stand By Me - It's a great song and Stevie does a good job, me likey.
Sleeping Angel - Ooooh, love it.
Rhiannon (Piano Version) - Blegh! I'm sorry Stevie, I know you tried, and I know this version of Rhiannon being on Enchanted means a lot to you, but leave the piano playing to someone else please...
The only songs I always skip when I listen to this one is Gold, WICYF and Rhiannon. :wavey:

And I know the lyrics to A LOT of songs, cause I only have to listen to a song once or twice and I pretty much know all the words then. 1. Twisted - don't like the version so much... one of my least fav Stevie songs of all time. the film also sucked.
2. Long Distance Winner - brilliant-- love whole Buckingham Nicks album... which is downloadable here for those who haven't heard it http://www.buckinghamnicks.net/ look under buckingham and nicks, multimedia, mp3s
3. Thousand Days - really like this!!!
4. Battle Of The Dragon - love it!
5. Gold - don't remember it..
6. Free Fallin' - just don't know why she did it... ditto "Just like A Woman" on Street Angel
7. It's Late - it's ok...
8. Violet & Blue - mmmm... ok
9. Whenever I Call You Friend - cheesy!!
10. Sweet Girl - I like this, but she is describing herself, right? As "sweet girl"... i know she often refers to herself in songs but this one i find a bit too much.
11. Blue Lamp - like it
12. Gold & Braid - ok...
13. Reconsider Me - I love this song a lot.
14. Somebody Stand By Me - Why?? It's ok, but not outstanding
15. Sleeping Angel - not so much
16. Rhiannon (Piano Version) - sweet...
but my overwhelming sense, now I have heard a lot of demos, is......
Why didn't she do this:
1. Lady from the Mountain
2. Cecelia
3. Starshine
4. Secret love
5. Julia
6. City of hope
7. The Dealer
8. Christian (Spinning wheels)
9. Reconsider Me
10. Thousand days
11. Battle of the Dragon
12. Without You
13. Gold & Braid
14. Amber

16. Annabelle lee
I'm sure there are more... i just made this list quickly, so order might well be a bit rubbish. why did she put Whenever I call u friend on?? I don't think she should have done the TPetty cover or put stuff on there that had already been released. what's the point??

Just looked it up on Nicks Fix... seriously, I love you Stevie, but why did you put this on there?? it's a good song, but everyone has heard it 1000 times already.

Twisted - Not bad. Better with Lindsey.
Long Distance Winner - Love it, love it, love it.
Thousand Days - Tolerable. The vocal annoys me.
Battle Of The Dragon - Terrific lyrics, though I wouldn't call it a personal fave.
Gold - Eh.
Free Fallin' - Not a bad cover; I'm just not in love with it.
It's Late - Really cute and fun.
Violet & Blue - Much love for this one. Great vocal, too.
Whenever I Call You Friend - Eh. She sounds amazing, but why does it have to be on such a corny song?
Sweet Girl - Prefer the Dance version.
Blue Lamp - I love this one.
Gold & Braid - Love this one too. It puts me in a great mood. :D
Reconsider Me - I like it.
Somebody Stand By Me - I like this one quite a bit too.
Sleeping Angel - Perfection.....the lyrics and that vocal.

WICYF is the ultimate "feel-good" song (sorry Red). When I was little I used to have my own show, in my basement, called the Janet (lastname) Show. I had a tape recorder and a record player. Carole King's Tapestry was fetaured often, the Grease soundtrack, as well as a lot of Beatles songs (I would play them on the record player and sing along into the microphone). WICYF was one of my favorites..."Now I know my life has given me more than memories...."

Disc 3 is heaven. A triumph for Stevie (for her), in my opinion. It's amazing to me that so much of Stevie's best material was never released on any of her albums ("Battle of the Dragon", "Blue Lamp", "Sleeping Angel", "Violet and Blue", "Gold and Braid"). I'll never understand Stevie, ever.
Yeah, because the harmony is hard and interesting. Especially on the "freeeEENDDD!!" part. (that part where the harmony goes higher).
That harmony part you are hearing is Kenny Loggins. Stevie just holds her note. Stevie pretty much stays in her little vocal range, while Kenny whoops and screams around her.

Except I really like Stevie's part, I think it's one of her best recorded vocals ever.
The only reason the song works is because of Stevie's lovely, beautiful singing on the second verse. Absolute gorgeousity. Pure distilled 1978 at its most heavenly.
Although I thought WICYF was from the 80's.

Once again, I agree with you for the most part.
I also think WICYF is somply beautiful and it illustrates her inate sense of harmony. Her control in that song is very apprent in her execution. In the "Sweet love showin us a heavenly light," is she singing the lead and then a very high harmony (maybe the fifth)? It sounds like it to me, but Loggins' voice is also very high and seemingly higher than her voice in spots.
Also, Disc 3 was a bold statement for her and I think she knew that. So, kudos to her for branching out a little.
Finally, Sleeping Angel, Free Falling, Battle of the Dragons, G&B, and Blue Lamp, and WICYF are amongst her best vocals ever.

That harmony part you are hearing is Kenny Loggins. Stevie just holds her note. Stevie pretty much stays in her little vocal range, while Kenny whoops and screams around her.
still, the package is cool right there. Are you sure? You would know, I guess.

Well you used to be silvah!!!
The only reason the song works is because of Stevie's lovely, beautiful singing on the second verse. Absolute gorgeousity. Pure distilled 1978 at its most heavenly.
'Tard.
It's (her voice) very facile with that song. Smooth transitions.
I'm sorry I didn't correctly remember the dates...OF A SONG THAT CAME OUT WHEN I WAS FOUR.

This is what I hear too. I'm virtually positive that all those high notes are Kenny, while Stevie pretty much just stays in her...well..what Tower said. :p

In the "Sweet love showin us a heavenly light," is she singing the lead and then a very high harmony (maybe the fifth)? It sounds like it to me, but Loggins' voice is also very high and seemingly higher than her voice in spots.
All those high notes in the chorus (which is the melody) are Kenny Loggins.
Finally, Sleeping Angel, Free Falling, Battle of the Dragons, G&B, and Blue Lamp, and WICYF are amongst her best vocals ever.
You said it, sistah!!

Yes, dear- I'm sure.

^^^^I also think WICYF is somply beautiful and it illustrates her inate sense of harmony. Her control in that song is very apprent in her execution. In the "Sweet love showin us a heavenly light," is she singing the lead and then a very high harmony (maybe the fifth)?
That woman cannot not sing harmony. Remember Stevie and Lindsey working out Angel on the piano in the Tusk doc? Lindsey is like, "you sing this" (melody) and I sing the high part" and then she starts singing the harmony along with his harmony and then starts laughing because she knows she's just a big 'tard who naturally gravitates towards the harmony without even thinking about it. I love that part.
Does anybody else picture the Muppets Take Manhatten during the intro of Gold & Braid? Just me? M'kay then.

You should have called Christine over and asked HER to sit down at the piano while you recorded a nice piano version of Rhiannon.I cant deal with this? what's doing on here?

You did not just say this. How can you say Stevie can't sing harmony? How?
That TUSK thing was not evidence that she can't find the harmony. From what she says after that, she had worked out the melody differently in her head, and all - You know, when she's like "and I did not branch out at all, because I realized Lindsey would be singing a perfect two part harmony"
and plus, once she saw what Linds was doing, she snapped right into a beautiful harmony.
I can't believe you said that. Don't make me come "over there" Tracye!

You can laugh at Amber (the song), Annabelle Lee and Starshine all you like, there may well be better demos about, but at least they're different. I do not see the point in including Stevie's piano Rhiannon (most people don't seem to like this much) and Gold and WICYF when they have been released before. When i bought the Enchanted set five or six years ago, I would have rather had a 3rd disk of entirely new (to me) songs... even Starshine or Annabelle Lee. If I want an old song by Kenny bloody Loggins, I'll buy his album. Give me new material any day.

So would a lot of people, but "new to me" is different for everybody, as everybody has heard differing numbers of Stevie's songs.
Regardless, if you say you wanted "new" songs on Enchanted, I can't figure out why you're attacking disc 3 - the one third of the box set that did contain material that was probably new to most of people. Disc 3 does a great job of compiling a lot of Stevie's various "one offs." Yes, that includes two previously ubiquitous hit songs on which she was featured prominently, but that then makes disc 3 a great place to get those tracks without buying the full John Stewart or Kenny loggins albums if you just want the "featuring Stevie" tracks. And compare disc 3 to the other two discs, which feature almost no "new" material (three tracks between them, plus a handful of alternative mixes). Disc 3 is simply not where you should be directing these complaints.

Battle Of The Dragon and Blue Lamp are two of my favourite Stevie songs ever (obviously...considering my name :p ). There's an extended version of BL with a longer outro. I think it's just the "And the light that shines..." bit repeated more but it's great because it doesnt fade out as she sings that part.
