I couldnt believe my ears this morning watching the news and there was a story out of the Ft Lauderdale intl airport. Seems a security guard at a checkpoint saw something suspicious in a woman's bag. Well, the guard opened up the bag to find a REAL HUMAN HEAD inside!!!   It still had teeth and hair too. So far the woman has only been charged with smuggling. I swear I though I'd heard everything before I heard this!

(I work about a mile from the airport) Anyway, here is the story from the local news:

FORT LAUDERDALE -- A woman was charged with smuggling after federal security screeners found a human skull in her luggage at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport late Thursday.

The woman had flown into Fort Lauderdale on Lynx Air International Flight 210 from Cap Haitien, Haiti. Her bag was being searched at the U.S. Customs counter when the grisly discovery was made. Agents said she did not disclose the skull -- complete with teeth and hair -- was in the luggage.

Myrlene Severe, a Haitian-born permanent U.S. resident, said the skull -- a male's -- was to be used in rites as part of her Voodoo beliefs. She also said she bought the skull from an unknown man in Haiti in the belief the head would ward off evil spirits.

The 30-year-old Severe was charged Friday afternoon with smuggling "a human head with organic matter inside," according to a criminal complaint.

``It still had teeth, hair and bits of skin and lots of dirt,'' said Barbara Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Miami.

In addition to the smuggling count, she was charged with failure to declare the head and transporting hazardous material in air commerce.

She faces a maximum of 15 years in prison if convicted on all charges, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida.

Severe remained held Friday on a $100,000 bond. She is due back in federal court March 2.

The discovery alarmed some passengers, and some came up with their own conclusions about the object.

"Religious beliefs, freedom -- people get strange things in their heads. So, people bring in what they want," passenger Ben Knowlton told news partner NBC 6.

I have mixed feelings about this. It is gross and I could never imagine doing that, but what if she had disclosed the fact that she had the head with her...what would happen then? anything?

That's not as gross as CSI last night. Did anyone watch it? Awesome episode, but oh. my. god. MULTIPLE eyeballs getting poked with big needles, one of them severed from the eye socket, big empty eye socket, lobotomy pictures, SEVERAL y-incisions and pulling of skin flaps and pulling off of the breast plate, twins sewed together to be conjoined, a girl biting off her own hand, etc.

OMG - I did. When the good twin's body was discovered in his car and they took him in for the autopsy I kept thinking they'd cut before they showed the actual devise touch the body, but they didn't. I said "praise god someone out there can do that job" - I was getting all religious.

It was gross though -

and not to hijack the thread, but what was the deal with that lady, I know she was in a previous episode and owned a brothel I believe - but what was the relation to Grissom?

Lady Heather (Melinda Clarke, who is so my lesbian fantasy) owns Lady Heather's Dominion, an S&M kinkfest of a mansion. She's been involved in a couple of cases before and she's got this weird connection with Grissom- the sparks between the two are insane. He may or may not have slept with her- they kissed, and then cut away to morning, where they were having tea together. Some have claimed they didn't sleep with each other. Anyways. They parted after he mistakenly believed her guilty of murdering someone.

ahhh - thanks. I remember the first episode she was in, but didn't remember her being if further episodes. Well, last night's was one of the goriest I've seen, but really interesting - although, I did think it was a little sloppy. Did you think?

I thought it was one of the best episodes of CSI I've ever seen- probably the best aside from the Quentin Tarantino episode last year. It was creepy and scary and emotional, and I totally dug it.

Plus, William Peterson was looking foxy. I have such a crush on him, I can't help it.

Nick? George Eads? I don't like the hair! It's better than the buzz cut, but I keep calling him the Boy Wonder because I think he looks like Robin or something with that haircut.

Sorry for the thread hijack!!!

Sorry for the thread hijack!!!
me too David - though all this concern over "hijack" is ridiculous to me; it's the natural progression of threads

Wow! People keep telling me I should watch that show! Sounds kinda cool and creepy. I love "Family Plots" on A&E - the reality show about the family that owns a mortuary business. It's actually filmed here locally where I live. That stuff has always intrigued me, but not enough to go into it and actually DO it. Yuk.

I watched 2 or 3 episodes and it was actually really interesting though I can't stand struggles within families (especially reality) so I had to stop watching it. It makes me too sad.
