Does anybody else LOVE this movie?

I have loved it ever since I saw it in the third grade. I am pretty sure I saw it 4 different times when it was in the theaters. All with different people who wanted to see it. There is something so eerie about this movie that I cannot explain. I think the fact that this actually did happen, these people did die(not the same people), and the ship did sink and is still there. The underwater footage in that movie is all real...James Cameron went down 12 different times and got footage. I just bought the special edition DVD set that is about as big as a Dictionary, but I still love it. There are lots of great deleted scenes and I find the alternate ending very fasinating.

SPOILERS (just in case no one has seen it)

I just figured out the ending when I put it in about a month ago. I never knew at the end that Rose died and was going to her "heaven". I always thought, that the end sequence was some sort of dream to the Old Rose. To Me that is one of the best endings of a movie ever...I just love it.

Kate Winslet is astounding in this and she is one of my favorite actresses. I love all her movies.

This may sound very very very strange but I think I may have died on the Titanic in a past life....I know it stounds soooooo strange.....but ok im done :]

I think it's one of the best movies ever. It says something when you are moved every single time you watch a movie after nearly 10 years.

I'd be interested to see those special features.

How old ARE you? I saw Titanic 3 times in the theatre.....in COLLEGE. F*ck.

Anyway yeah...I love the movie, but primarily because I'm a bit of an amateur historian of the actual event. I've read pretty much every book out there and I remember seeing the movie for the first time and picking out what were actual events and what was fabricated. I appreciate James Cameron for being true to actual events while spinning a fictional love story. Its a bit of a guilty pleasure for me because its really not that cool to love that movie as much as I do.

I was fortunate enough last year to see a Titanic exhibit of over 300 relics from the wreck sight. I was nearly brought to tears.

I do know a little history about it. Some little facts here and there. But I would be truely amazed if I could see that exhibit. But I also think Its kind of bad that they are taking things from it. I think everyone should remain where it is.

Many people have the same complaint, calling it "grave robbing" and such. But is it any different than the exhibits from Egyptian catacombs? Or Grecian relics? Its a part of history, and some of those Titanic relics have been returned to surviving family members, who were more than happy to receive them.:)

Thats a good point....It just seems not right to me..

I hear there are survivor stories. I'd really like to hear one. I read online somewhere that the ship actually had no suction when the end of the ship went in and some guy actually just kicked right off of it?

Yep, the cook. They showed him looking over at Rose in the movie (with the big chef hat on) as they were going down. He was French...I think his name was Jean or something starting with a J.....anyway, he said that he held onto the stern until they hit the water and he just swam away. He said he never even got his hat wet.

In the deleted scenes they go into him a little more. When the ship is sinking they show various clips of him drinking. Then theres a small clip at the end when the Carpathia comes....there are about 50 people sitting on a lifeboat turned upside down and he is on it...I always wanted to know what happened to him.

Well, he lived!!!

He did say he'd had a fair amount to drink that night and it assisted in keeping him warm in the cold water.

There was a 20 year old guy by the name of Jack Thayer who was also pulled from the water. He was the one who had said that the feeling of hitting the icy water was like 1000 knives in your body -which you know was a line in the movie delivered by the fictional Jack.:)

I'm probably boring everyone but you!!

I know so many stories of the actual people on that ship its borders on insane. Remember that scene with the old couple lying in their bed with the water swirling around them? That was Isador and Ida Strauss and that entire scene where Rose gets on the lifeboat only to jump back onto the ship actually happened between the Strausses. Ida got onto a lifeboat and clibed back onto the Titanic and said to her husband "where you go, I go".

Wahhhh. Its all true.

Honest to God, I could go on for days.

In one of the books I have that has a bunch of pictures of the relics, there is a piece of jewellery that really haunted me. There was a gold link bracelet with the name Amy set with diamonds. It just struck me as so personal. Anyway, when I was at the exhibit this summer, they had the Amy bracelet there on display. I nearly had a heart attack...actually being able to see it, right there. That's when I nearly bawled.

Wow, that would be incredible to see those things. We always watch the specials they have about Titanic on the Discovery & History channels. Have you ever heard about the bears that were given to the victims familys? I saw one in a doll collectors book that was auctioned.

This movie came out when I was in second grade. I had no real interest in seeing it until this girl in my class started a club for people who had seen it, only because she knew I hadn't. I know, 7-year-olds can be such bitches. So I begged my mom to let me see it, and she did. And it was just okay. I'd probably like it more if I watched it now, though.

I didn't know of the bears, but I did hear of some of the actual survivors being taken out to the site and dropping wreaths in the water..it was in the late 80's I think. As far as I know there is only one remaining survivor left who was an infant when it happened.

I have mixed feelings about it, but I have a piece of coal that was salvaged from the boiler of the Titanic.

It was a german company, (I wanna say Boyd, but I'm not sure) I know the name but it just isn't comming to me at the moment. I'm tempted to go dig my husbands bear out of the closet because it was made by the same people, LOL. I believe one was made for each person who died and the bears were made from a special black fur that had only been used for those perticular bears.

Bought it. I kinda feel shamed even though I love having it at the same time.

I was talking to a Titanic historian/author who would travel with Titanic exhibits over the world. At the particular exhibit I was at, there was this massive, I mean MASSIVE chunk of the Titanic's broken hull, called "The Big Piece" suspended and on display. Anyway, this guy said that there would inevitably be little tiny pieces that would flake off and settle on the floor and when guards weren't looking, he would go and sweep up these little bits. So he has pieces of the Titanic's hull in a little jar. See, I find that creepy and that's why I feel guilty about havin a chunk of coal. And yet, I love having a piece of the history. Total quagmire. Giggedy giggedy.

i worship this movie, it is my all time favorite movie~ if you read actual history of the ship 1 of the 1st class passengers was emil brandeis~ he is from where i live, he owned huge department stores~ he didn't get on a life boat & his body was one that was recovered after the disaster, he had a bankroll of 16,000.00 on him when they found him~ i recently went & saw a titanic exhibit where they had a piece of ice that was as cold as the water that night, i could barely put my hand on it, it was so cold~ thay also had a piece of titanic there & seeing that was so surreal to me~ the hubby bought me 1 of the replica rings, one like what was found among the wreckage~ the whole thing fascinates me to this day~ there aren't many survivors left, maybe 1 or 2 i think~

I did like the movie, and just recently saw the alternative ending, very interesting, kind of exciting when Bill Paxton have finally the diamond in his hands, but the old lady threw it to the sea anyway...

I guess the movie oversaturated people and that's why some of them started to hating it. The same happened to Bee Gees, Michael Jackson, etc.

I remember reading some comments (in 1997 when the movie was released) about the truth verus the myth. They said that the fact of locking all the third class people downstairs, was a lie, an exaggeration. I don't think so. Statiscally, there have survivied more adult men from first class, than women and children from third class, so they sure blocked third class corridors.

Do you remember the film from the 50s "A night to remember" ? I found some similarities

1. A just married young couple find the architect in an empty dining room, looking toward the chimney, very similar to Jack and Rose finding gim fixing the clon over the chimney.

2. The upside down boat. There is a very similar scene, but the one in Titanic was deleted.

3. And of course the band playing til the end.. well this is a storic fact.

That makes sense now that I think about it. Whenever I saw the pictures in the old 3rd grade books the back half always looked somewhat still in tact.

You should see the extra footage with the camera actually on the grand staircase. They really went deep with that camera in the extra footage..it was so eerie to watch. They show so much more in the extra footage then in the movie...it is really freaky.

It's technically a good movie but I found it extremely cynical and cold. I still prefer the one with Clifton Webb.

Is that the TV one that came out around 96?

No, the one you're thinking about is with Catherine Zeta Jones and Peter Gallagher and it was a tv movie (not bad, IMO). I'm referring to this one:
Titanic by Jean Negulesco (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046435/). Historically speaking it wasn't accurate, but for me the acting was better, the storyline was better and there was much more humanity in the way the stories are told.

I much prefer 'A Night To Remember' which came out in 1958. A much more straightforward depiction of the Titanic tradgedy.

For the research work, the way the movie was shot Cameron did a very good job. But in the storyline he treated the public like children, giving them two young actors, a quite obvious love story, and using them as a flexible mirror for the triumph of the machines (cinema and Titanic). What he cared for was the angle of the ship when it sunked not the hundreds of people who were killed, that we see disappearing as tiny shadows. It's a heartless movie, IMO.

I Love this movie! I love Kate Winslet! And, Kathy Bates as the Unsinkable Molly Brown in priceless! The movie is really creepy because this horrible thing did actually happen.

When I was in Vegas for the Stevie Concerts last summer, I went to the Titanic Museum they had there. It was so interesting to see all the things they collected from the ship all those years later. Oh, Vegas. I miss Vegas! I want to go back. Is Stevie doing a Vegas show anytime soon?

ahhh - I see. I do agree with what you're saying. Especially during the sinking scene, but I still love the movie.
