Oh this is my first official thread and I have been posting for like eons!
Sorry I beat you to it! I usually work for all the awards so this should be fun.

I just want to see Madonna...but NOT the Gorillaz--she's performing with them and it's annoying. I want to see her to PUSH or SORRY alone

JazmenFlowers

alison krauss? blech. she's talented, but yuck. and her acceptance speech sucked.

faith or trisha deserved it.

I did see that faith and tim won country vocal collaboration for like we never loved at all - simply the best country song this year, IMO

Isn't her album nominated? No, I haven't seen her. And, it's only 5:30 here.

Sorry, but I don't think I like one single performer there. Van Halen? I like them.
Gwen? Yes.
Madonna? not on your life.
Kelly? No way in hell.
Guys singing vapid R n B? Oh, no thank you.
Country Music? Not usually.

I'm glad y'all like it, though. :)

Madonna was awesome.

Alicia Keys looked GORgeous! But better earrings would have made her a 10+

Yay for Kelly! Sorry, Mooriah! (can't stand her)

What was the big deal with Coldplay's guitar player? I missed the first part of that story.

Yes, U2 and my girl, Mary. Love them, but I really love her! She's fabulous!

I like that there's a pit of fans, makes it less stuffy. And I like how the artists are introducing themselves.

Matt Dillon = HOT!!

Janet

Mary J Blige has a version on her album Breakthrough.
U2 has it on Achtung Baby.
I know Johnny Cash has a version too...

Great song. It's like "Yesterday" or something...a song that everyone will redo over and over again.

that a "nu metal" band would win that award (Shadow Falls is definitely not "nu metal")...Considering that is still the trend of metal here in the United Sheep of America (bka U Suck Ass!)

Man, I cannot wait til all the nu-metal idiots give up on their dying trend and serve me my fries when I order 'em at Mickey Dee's

good question. I have heard that too, but 2 people I know continued to lighten their hair through pregnancy. I have seen some pics and like Christina Aguilera, I'm surprised she has hair left...in fact, I know she wears a lot of falls.

Ok, she did those notes, good for her. She was good.

But what's with the hair extensions? I mean she's got natural curly hair. I can't stand fake hair. I'm sorry.

Maybe I just have the thickest hair in the world and I don't get it but still...fake hair? No one's hair is that long...JLH had come too.

I think it's well documented that I love Mariah. BUT...I think this performance was blah. Hair, sucked, dress, sucked, fake tan, sucked.

The performance was ok, but boring in my opinion, as far as what she's capable of. There were sections, mainly the challenging ones, that were clearly a "live pre-recording" much like what Janet Jackson does (that biotch ain't sang a live note in her career). It's the Grammy's - she shouldn't have any backing tracks or pre-recordings at all.

all that said, I still love her...

come on, Brandon, bring it - don't hate me cause I'm beautiful

Mariah was fake? Ohhhhhhhhhhh I thought it was totally live. She kept cracking and killing herself to hit notes...I thought that was real.
Brandon may be able to pinpoint better than me, but the cracks are kinda the point, tho I don't know why. I for sure heard clips of album recording in there and parts where the voice didn't match the breathing pattern.

sorry...I'm a lipsynch guru (or at least I think I am)

and I love that freaking song. she looked like she was just going through the motions. put the damn guitar down too girl - that was odd.

she should've done like we never loved at all with keith - that would have rocked! I'm pissed that we got shorter time with keith so we could have that crappy "duet"

for this show should lose his/her credentials and be fired for such a suckass mixing/production job....Apparently to my ears this person is good for those rap/hip-hop ENTERTAINERS, but ABSOLUTELY sucks-major-donkey-ass for LIVE performances featuring MUSICIANS with REAL INSTRUMENTS!!!

As for Faith Hill, I dont know...Her voice changed somewhere between the last 2 albums she has released, Because her voice sounds very flat on the new album (Everyone knows she has the pipes....But something is wrong somewhere, I dont hear any emotion any longer in her voice.)

Joss Stone is going to do big things. She is so young...but I know now she seems like aimless but she will do big things. I FEEL it yo.

Fantasia...man....she's crazy. I hope she gets some of Kelly's success..she can sing...I like that wild singing.

Adam Levine...he is ok but not for soul singing...LOL. He's quite understated.

Steve Tyler...he's a good performer...love him or hate him...he can perform...but what was that? He did like one note.

if you have the major label studio budget you can use a "On Pitch" studio trick to make your voice sound on key and have the vibrato that most seem to want to have (I prefer no vibrato myself...Joss Stone may be great to most, but to me she sounds like she has eaten a Taco Bell burrito and the fart gas has built up her butt so much she cant squeeze the cheese exhaust fumes out!)

Oh boy, Steven "Sellout" Tyler & Joe "Sellout" Perry of Aero-Supply are sucking as usual (Sad to see 'em ruin a classic Sly Stone song)...Dudes, Go back to the drugs...Your music was so heavy back then compared to the ball-less drivel ya have produced in the 1990's-2000's!

Sly and the Family Stone would've been great without the special guest crap IMO! I must be in the minority, but I hate when special guests play with a legend, just waters down the whole celebration of musical genius.

As for Sly himself, He is even more a recluse than W.Axl Rose is...As hard as that is to believe. He used to never show up for shows when he was at the top of the funk game in the 70's, So much that there is a popular saying: "Sly Stone even makes Axl look more reliable"

I've never bought the idea of Jay Z as an artist. He smells like the shiny plastic you find in storefronts.

And this blending with Linkin Park (who seems off tonight, like everyone else) and Paul - wtf?

did they practice the harmonies at ALL?

and I hate how they are using Coretta King's death as a launching point of speeches and performances - it sickens me how they capitalize on the deaths of great ones

vibrato in singing, but nowadays it is overused to the point it sounds like someone using vibrato has squeezed a weasel in their hands (Alot of pop singers, Especially female pop singers) instead of using power from their vocal chords (ie-Steve Perry & Micheal McDonald)

I was squinting at it - looking for Little Joe's Tejano award. I did notice that Delbert McClinton won for best contemporary blues, or something like that. U2 won a few more than what we saw tonight and Aimee Mann won for packaging.

Was that really considered to be a good performance of One? That woman was terrible, I tune in to see U2 and am stabbed in the ears by her non-melodic shrieks. I despise that style of singing and I'm not impressed by vocal acrobatics that exist not to assist the song in any way but simply to show off the singer. Actually I hate them entirely but particularly then. Give us back the freaking melody and shriek your stuff some place else! Terrible terrible terrible.

This, however, is not terrible.

I agree - no one really sings a single note anymore. Instead they sing five where one ought to be and it pisses me off

well, I guess different strokes for different folks. I do agree with you, just not in this instance. Mary J. Blige is a phenomenal talent that, to me, really puts a lot of intense emotion into her performances. The type of performance she gave last night are so moving, again, IMO.

And some people enjoy vocal acrobatics. I like them occasionally just to see what the singer can do and how much control is there, but I agree with you there is too much of it in place of "real" singing these days.

MJB tastes good when it should. I don't usually like the five notes in place of one type covers - but in this case she really spiced up Bono's boring. And again, MJB has got the real thing with that voice. Mariah? Now that was offensive and showboatish. Yes, I do hate her, but still.

For my liking, an "intensely emotional" vocal would be Lennon's 'Mother', now that's some raw, honest singing/screaming and I can't imagine hers even being compared with that kind of vocal.
no argument here on that point. a great example too of what you're saying.

02-09-2006, 12:06 PM
Guess it is 'cause I found it the opposite of appealing and emotional. To me a voice that is real and emotional is John Lennon, not technically great, not showing off, you could call it raw and honest. For my liking, an "intensely emotional" vocal would be Lennon's 'Mother', now that's some raw, honest singing/screaming and I can't imagine hers even being compared with that kind of vocal.

Comparing MJB to John Lennon is about the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. I don't know if you noticed, but she's black. Black singers have a whole spiritual thing goen on when they sing. It's her way of expressing herself, I guess the same way that rappers grab their crotch when they sing

for this show should lose his/her credentials and be fired for such a suckass mixing/production job....Apparently to my ears this person is good for those rap/hip-hop ENTERTAINERS, but ABSOLUTELY sucks-major-donkey-ass for LIVE performances featuring MUSICIANS with REAL INSTRUMENTS!!!

As for Faith Hill, I dont know...Her voice changed somewhere between the last 2 albums she has released, Because her voice sounds very flat on the new album (Everyone knows she has the pipes....But something is wrong somewhere, I dont hear any emotion any longer in her voice.)

Maybe Faith is taking Klonopin. ;)

The sound guy really was atrocious and I agree that he should be canned for that BS. Mary J sounded muddy to me, Paul's vocals were way off, he was turned way too high in the beginning, and the musicians too low. I loved Helter Skelter, that was the perfect song to pick. They had the sound better by then too. There's something odd about that guitar player though, like he's got a really bad nose job or something, does not look human.

I liked Faith! I thought she was good. I missed Mariah and wanted to see her. I agree that her dress was better than what I have seen her wear in a long time. And agree about the hair. I got to see her at the end, but missed the whole vocal switching to Idol.

I really enjoyed Aguilera and Herbie's song, she is a real talent. I also wish she would cool it with some of the vocal acrobatics but she really has a gift there and I appreciate that. Maybe as she matures she'll lose that self-consciousness about having to prove something and will be more real.

I loved U2 last night, they really are something. I missed Bono's voice on One, that should've been made more of a true duet. He is still sexy even if he is covering some baldness with too much product. Meow.

Joss Stone has got to stop wearing mumus. And her vocals are sloppy, stay within the boundaries of the song girl! I do like her voice but the sloppiness is very annoying.

Fantasia looked great. Her vocal didn't start very strong but got better. I loved the fringe on her dress. Who was the woman singing with Maroon 5? She cannot sing live but can wear a slinky black dress. I didn't care for the dress but what a bod!

I enjoyed this show because there were lots of performances and less of the pompous BS.

"Devils and Dust" is a powerful song. It is very Dylan-esque, IMO. I love it, and you are right about it being different than his usual stuff.

I love the fact he said "Bring Um Home" at the end. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me too! Three words that couldn't have been more powerfully stated. I've got to really listen to that song.

 Agree. I think Bono's sexy too. I love when he wears his cowboy hat, and love, love the shades.

Hmmm, let's see...who's dead. jk

I was actually really happy to see INXS have another go at it. The were my uber-band for the longest time and still are. Okay, well they don't usurp FM, but still, you see what I'm saying.

I can't help but want to see Courtney Love resurrect herself, as big a car wreck as she is. A new and impoved Hole? I'm all over that like a trannie ho on Eddie Murphy.

Are you referring to the fact that Courtney is now clean again and recording with Billy Corgan? I would love to see a fantastic comeback album from her!

Devils and Dust

I got my finger on the trigger
But I don't know who to trust
When I look into your eyes
There's just devils and dust
We're a long, long way from home, Bobbie
Home's a long, long way from us
I feel a dirty wind blowing
Devils and dust

I got God on my side
And I'm just trying to survive
What if what you do to survive
Kills the things you love
Fear's a powerful thing, baby
It can turn your heart black you can trust
It'll take your God filled soul
And fill it with devils and dust

Well I dreamed of you last night
In a field of blood and stone
The blood began to dry
The smell began to rise
Well I dreamed of you last night, Bobbie
In a field of mud and bone
Your blood began to dry
And the smell began to rise

We've got God on our side
We're just trying to survive
What if what you do to survive
Kills the things you love
Fear's a powerful thing
It'll turn your heart black you can trust
It'll take your God filled soul
Fill it with devils and dust
It'll take your God filled soul
Fill it with devils and dust

[Harmonica solo]

Now every woman and every man
They wanna take a righteous stand
Find the love that God wills
And the faith that He commands
I've got my finger on the trigger
And tonight faith just ain't enough
When I look inside my heart
There's just devils and dust

Well I've got God on my side
And I'm just trying to survive
What if what you do to survive
Kills the things you love
Fear's a DANGEROUS thing
It can turn your heart black you can trust
It'll take your God filled soul
Fill it with devils and dust
Yeah it'll take your God filled soul
Fill it with devils and dust

Sorry, I'm on a youtube kick

I don't think he's really all that cute without the glasses :sorry: me thinks thats why he wears them. All the different styles and colours keep your eye on them and not his looks. Does that make sense? He's still hot though.
