Yeah, I'd be pissed, especially if I was trying to use it right then. Actually, when I transfer mine, I have to go through my itunes library and uncheckmark all the ones I don't want on the ishuffle. That sucks - I can't have all the songs on there b/c mine only holds about 200.

If you've got all the songs on your computer in iTunes, then you just transfer them right back on. Where's the problem? A minor frustration, maybe, but I'm pretty sure life will go on.
I understand it is not very satisfying listening to cds you actually paid for
??? I've got over 7600 songs on my iPod, and I think I paid for all but ten or fifteen of them.
and they are much less reliable than an extraordinarily tiny sliver of plastic with insane amounts of information on them
The music on my iPod can't get scratches on it, and I can take my 7600 songs with me wherever I go. It's true, it's far more reliable than CDs.

I'm so sorry. I know that is so frustrating. But....maybe some sort of trouble was waiting for you if you'd have left the house right then....and the universe intervened.

Do they double as cds? If not, then this claim is irrelevant.
I think he means he loads the songs on his cd to his computer and adds them to his ipod from there.

This thread is about Brandon losing his songs from his IPOD, that's about it. No moral lessons need not be learned...just some smypathy for someone who just lost 1000 loved songs.

Yes? I own hundreds upon hundreds of CDs, almost all of which I imported onto computer and uploaded to my iPod, so that I might move halfway across the world without worrying about how I was going to bring my music with me. Thank you, science.

This, however, is not what I meant, and probably not what Jason meant either (though I won't put words in his mouth). Threads do not need to be policed to ensure that they remain true to the specific original topic simply because a single person doesn't like it when discussions move in different directions. I think the vast majority of sensible adults who post here can handle it if multiple topics end up being discussed within a single thread.

Now I'm confused. Didn't you just post in response to Amber that you were reloading the songs from your iTunes?

Yes, and I said "listening to cds". The whole point of my post was to sarcastically compare cds to to Ipods, saying that Ipods are more satisfying and reliable than cds and cd players. Nobody understands me. Wah.
My apologies for misunderstanding. I think it was the "actually paid for" that threw me off. Please forgive me for jumping to such an irrational conclusion. :xoxo:

At the risk of looking like everyone's enabler....maybe he means that not ALL his songs were on Itunes. I am somewhat ipod illiterate, and it may well be showing now, but that is what I would assume.

Does it mess up your ipod if you connect it to someone else's itunes? I got one for my sister for Christmas. So I thought it would be cool to transfer some of my songs onto it, for her. So I did, and when she connected it to her computer, it wouldn't transfer any songs from her library until she removed the songs I put on there.
Not nearly as bad as Brandon's tale of woe, but I blew an ear bud on my ishuffle. Gone. Gonzo. I bought new ear buds but they suuuuuuuuuuuck. Whaaaaa, I want a nano to make me feel better.

sorry to hear about your ipod... but I'm glad it's just your ipod... I thought something serious was wrong when I read the headline of your post. So... you just pushed the play button on it and there was nothing there? Sounds likes something is wrong with the hard drive... you should take it back and get a new one. I love my ipod but I hate itunes... I've never understood why some people rave about it.

It shouldn't "mess up" your iPod in anyway, but each iPod has to be linked to an authorized computer if you want to upload songs onto it from that computer.
What you can do: Put the iPod into hard drive mode and upload whatever songs you have on your computer onto the iPod that way. Then your sister can hook up the iPod to her computer, remove all of the songs, and then put them back onto the iPod in regular mode. I think this works, anyway. I've never done it, but a number of friends have.

This reminds me that I need to back up my hard drive! I hate when that happens, Brandon. Stupid computers.
Well, that does suck, Brandon, that you lost all your songs on your iPod. I wonder what caused it. I have one, too, so I'd be interested in knowing the reason. But you can just hook it back up to the computer, & iTunes will put them all back on. I haven't really had any problems except for when I first installed everything, & I think it was because I didn't disconnect my firewall first. I have an FM transmitter which I use in my car, & once when I went to use my iPod on my way to work, the iPod battery was completely depleted. I was a little ticked because I was forced to listen to morning radio:rolleyes:, but I sort of wanted the battery to run all the way down anyway. They said if you do this every so often, it helps the iPod hold a charge longer. I then just charged it on my portable speakers that I keep at work.
I won a Shuffle which I gave to my sister, & she shares my iTunes. She has about four country CDs on my iTunes which I uncheck because I don't like country music & do not want them on my iPod. Luckily, she hasn't asked me to update her Shuffle since I first gave it to her. In fact, I'll have to ask her if she's even using it.

Didn't mean to cause worry...but at that moment...I really did hate life!
I unplugged it from the computer and put it on and went to artists and NOTHING, then albums and NOTHING...I turned it off and then turned it on again and still NOTHING. So I plug it back up to the CPU and when iTunes pops up it shows that there are no songs on my iPod.
But I did have a lot of my files backed up on the computer so I am basically back to where I was, and I have had no problems today...
