Human Remains Found on Farm
(02/06/06 - JOHNSTON CO.) - Investigators have discovered a second batch of human remains near a Johnston County farmhouse, and the husband and wife who lived there face murder and related charges.
Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell said deputies searching the property Saturday found plastic bags of decomposing body parts buried under the floorboards of the house. Late Sunday, their search turned up another cache of remains, buried underneath a shed in a freezer, he said Monday.
Investigators were searching the property after receiving a tip Friday that someone had been killed at the farm on Aug. 4, 1997. A local medical examiner has said the uncovered remains might be of two people, and Bizzell said investigators suspect at least some of the remains are those of a man named Caesar Ruvalcava Ortiz.
The home's owner, Robert "Bobby" Bruce Pollard, 34, was charged Saturday with first-degree murder. His wife, Cecilia Louise Pollard, 34, was charged with being an accessory to murder.
Bobby Pollard was also charged with possessing marijuana and a weapon of mass destruction -- a sawed-off shotgun. He was held without bond; Cecelia Pollard was held on $500,000 bond.
Bizzell said Ruvalcava and his girlfriend, Robin Clark -- who was related to Louise Pollard -- often stayed with the Pollards in 1997.
Relatives reported Clark missing on Aug. 9, 1997, when she was 17 years old, said Ronnie Stewart, chief of operations for the Wake County Sheriff's Department.
Last year, a Carrboro police officer responding to a call at an apartment met a woman who identified herself as Robin Clark and said she simply had a falling out with her parents. Her name was removed from a statewide database of missing persons reports in January 2005.
Authorities now believe the woman at the apartment was a relative of Clark's, Stewart said.
Bizzell said deputies are trying to track down Ruvalcava's family members in Texas and Mexico.
This house is about 5 min. from where I live. I used to drive by it every morning on the way to high school....I have GOT to get out of this town.
