Have any of you ever seen her live? Does the whole audience just weep?

I am so addicted to her music right now. My favourite songs are:

Goodbye
Top of the World
Tony
Little God
The Long Ride Home

Thanks to everyone who shared tracks...

I've never seen her live but I would go in a heartbeat. I think she generally does small venues and sometimes weekend 'jam' type things with several artists. She has such a beautiful voice. And my gosh, her songwriting. Where does all that come from? I don't know how she can sing those songs without blubbering. I would love to know more about her. I think she can really empathize with others by the songs she writes.

I've heard that "not alone" was written after she read an article about a man who was learning to move on with his life a year after his fiancee was killed. (She had worked in an abortion clinic where there was an attack.) He'd evidently made a comment in the article about feeling her near him and that he was not alone. And she has a song called 'Christina' that she wrote about Christina Onassis and her heartbreak and tragedy.

Beginning to ramble again, sorry. I would love to know if anyone has ever seen her perform too. I'm about ready to make a pilgrimage somewhere in order to do so!

Kelly :)

I've seen her twice, both times she's come through Chicago since I've lived here. She'd never come to my hometown before. I saw her at Park West for 1000 Kisses, and I saw her at the Vic for Impossible Dream. She was just stunning, both times. The first show was the first time I'd heard Top of the World outside of crappy bootlegs, and I sobbed through it. And through Mary.

I met her for a minute outside the venue after the first show- she signed posters for me and my best friend. She was so sweet.

There was a thread a few days ago called "Maybe the saddest.." or something that had several links to Patty songs. Hopefully they are still active if you'd like to listen to some.

Now I'm curious about the tricky thread....

I am so envious! Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I can't say I'm suprised about her being sweet.

That's a great story - you're so lucky to have seen her. I think a tiny little bar would be the perfect setting to see her. Sort of her, a guitar, maybe a second guitar, and about 30 people. And, yeah - I'd travel, too. I'm keeping my ears and eyes open...

I just finished downloading a concert recorded in 2000 featuring Patty Griffin with a few other singer/songwriters. Here are the 3 Patty Griffin songs. Hopefully it will do until she appears in concert in your town. I know she has been at the top of my list to see live. Enjoy!

I'm not sure. She covered moon river I think, but I've never heard blue moon. Doesn't mean she didn't do it, because there are still several of her songs I've not heard. Try to give some of her songs a listen if you can...and let us know what you think. I'll bet you love her! Of course you HAVE to listen to Mary.

Oh, you guys. Thank you so much for turning me on to Patty. Holy God, she's fantastic! I bought Flaming Red & Living with Ghosts, and I am obsessed! At first I liked LWG a lot better, but FR is really growing on me. Her voice makes me get a lump in my throat sometimes, I feel like I'm about to cry. "Tony" is just so...ahhhhh. There are so many more, I can't recall titles offhand.

So thanks. :xoxo: It's been a while since I got really excited about music besides Mac or Stevie.

You probably found this with a Google search, but if not, here is a site with links to a little video, and some interviews:
http://www.pattygriffin.net/PattyMedia.html

Also, Patty has been Morning Becomes Eclectic on KCRW at least twice, and the video/audio is archived - you can get it on the KCRW site - the audio is excellent!

I am going to see her at the Strawberry Music festival this year - really excited!

I don't know who she is, but I know Hayley really really likes her.

It reminds me of John Simon's feelings about Eugene McCarthy in the early 1970s.

Yes? What were his feelings? My mother campaigned for Eugene McCarthy. If she were a Catholic, St. Jude (patron saint of lost causes) would be her favorite saint.

About Patty:
Her lyrics are wonderful, and she has a huge voice that breaks you heart.
