View Full Version : House passes budget 216-214

Last month we talked about the budget bill with all the cuts to Medicaid/Medicare/food stamps, etc. that Cheney provided the tie-breaking Senate vote.
The House just approved it 216-214, so it is a done deal.
To make matters worse, Bush is releasing his FY 07 budget next week and it is expected to have more proposed cuts to the same entitlement programs.

Just one piece of the new budget:
States will now be able to institute copayments of up to 20% of service or drugs to Medicaid recipients (poorest people in the country).
Currently, copays can be no higher than $3, now can be up to $120 for your average HIV drug.
All part of this new optimistic country Bush was celebrating last night.

My God..Will the neo cons pillaging of the poorest and most disenfranchised among us never end?And again such Christian values they espouse!Just when one would think their hypocrisy has sunk to the lowest ebb that it could they never disappoint by demonstrating that there is always a lower morass of immorality to sink to.

I have come to the conclusion that anyone who votes republican in this next election is quite frankly evil and soulless...I don't care who you are, how cool you seem or how much you give to charity or love your family but anyone voting republican now is deprived of compassion and empathy and clearly has no love for the rest of society.

OK...that was a good call...I'd like to say it isn't personal because I hate that kind of thing, I have always made my life on being tolerant and understanding and trying to tolerate and even accept the views of others, I'm sure you know I am normally one of the last to point fingers and especially call people out right wrong, but:
When I see the devastation your government has caused in America and how much damage our conservatism government has caused in Australia; and it mirrors most of our Australian trends (although you are about a term behind) towards conservatism and apathy.
I hope that makes sense.

I have a theory that neo-conservatives think that poor people should just make more money if they're not happy being poor. Then if they can't, there is something inherently wrong with them and they don't deserve to be one of the "haves" and who cares about them because they are irrelevant. I don't think they think of the poor and the least among us as actual people. They are less than them and beneath them. Do you folks think this is true?

Yes, they seemingly think that. I mean does anyone really think that if someone with an IQ of 70 or above could make more money they would not. I mean I get that there are lazy people at all income levels who do not want to work, but to imply that that is the rule and not the exception is assinine. Moreover, poor people in general do not get the proper education, etc. So, how are they to rise above the fry station at Buger King with govt. assisstance to supplement their income or lack thereof. AND ANOTHER THING  here's a novel idea - how about if that fry station position paid a liveable wage.
I am getting off my soapbox now

I think they just think they are *right*....literally. The Republican leaders really don't even care about the Republican followers any more than what it takes to keep the flock following. Which has proven to be easier to do by using the cloak of religion than to actually provide a healthy productive policy of any kind.

But they are POOR! And probably came from poor families. So they don't have the expectations from life that *we* do. They should be able to make it just fine if both spouses work at minimum wage.
Besides, how else can we continue our own standard of living if we have to pay a reasonable salary AND benefits????

Well that's a simpler way of putting it. I do believe this is also true, they think they're right and serving the public by showing them what is "right".

Have you heard about the **** Romney wants to pull with health care? I think I passed out upon first hearing of it.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/01/28/eveningnews/main1249052.shtml?CMP=ILC-SearchStories
Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has come up with an innovative proposal to combat that: he wants to require every citizen in the state to buy health insurance.
"What the government is saying is, 'no more can you turn and put your cost of health insurance and health care on everybody else.' You have a personal responsibility to either pay for your own health care yourself, or buy an insurance policy, but no more just showing up at the hospital and saying, 'I can't pay, make someone else pay for me,'" Gov. Romney says.
Romney says forcing people to have insurance is fair.
"In my state, you can't drive a car on our roads unless you have automobile insurance, because we don't want people getting in accidents and expecting someone else to pay for their car and for their health," he says. "Same way with our citizens that don't have health insurance."
I'm actually glad he's saying this because it will guarantee that we'll never have another Republican elected to the position of governor. Never again. People hate him with a passion already and this is just adding fuel to the flames.

Anyone who has voted republican for at least the last 25 years is quite frankly evil and soulless. The republicans have always been in favor of the wealthy, while screwing over the poor. And then they think they can make it all better by writing a check to some religious charity and suddenly that solves all of our society's ills. It's always about blaming the poor for their condition regardless of circumstances and then applying that blame to every member of that social group. They'll never understand that every aspect of society is benefitted by helping those of us who are suffering the most.
It's such a great idea to cut 10-20 billion from Medicaid all the while spending 200 billion on ****ing Iraq.
Heartless bastards the lot of them. And any Log Cabin republicans out there should be ashamed of themselves...

The issue with Medicaid is that many of the people who rely on the program are extremely sick and can't work. So of course they can't afford the new up to 20% co-pay that states can now implement.
My partner was on Medicaid from the moment he was diagnosed with cancer until the day he died. Without it, he wouldn't have gotten the care and treatment he needed. I will always defend this lifesaving program and anyone who would publicly defend a political party that cuts funding from it while passing tax cuts for the rich (another bill pending in the Senate) should explain exactly why they support said party....in order to get a T-shirt.
