My hubby is off to Venezuela for 5 weeks on Saturday with his job. Anyone know much about the country?? Is it as unsafe as people have told me?
Pip
I don't know a thing about Venezuela except in high school we had a Venezuelan exchange student who's name was Gonzo Gonzales. For reals. He was really hot and played football. Sorry, this is no help to you.

Hey Pip. Well, I have a venezuelian friend. She hasn't lived there for many years. From what she has told me there is a lot of corruption there. She had gone back for a relatives funeral a few years ago, and they weren't going to let her leave the country again to come back to the U.S. They started saying she needed all of these papers and things which they wanted $$ for. I don't know much about the general safety though. I just tried to call her and ask but got her voicemail. If I hear from her, I'll let you know.

I hope she's ok. I've heard some horror stories, I must admit. Mike got an email from the guys out there telling him about what happens when he gets into the country and what not to do at the airport. It is a worry but I'm sure once he is 'on the job' things will be ok

have you tried to google? I'd do that and read up on recent events or comments from tourists. wish I could be more help.
I've been to Venezuela numerous times, mainly Caracas and Marguarita Island. My aunt has been living there for nearly 20 years. I think that it is an absolutely beautiful country- particularly the Island. But other parts are the complete opposite. My aunt lives on Marguarita Island in a really lovely area, but there are sections on the island that are very run-down, dirty, and full of poverty. And that is common in many sections around that country, which can be heartbreaking because of the extremes...I believe it to be an absolutely gorgeous country filled with fascinating people and incredible culture. But there is a lot of corruption, and the government is a completely different matter altogether.:distress:
I love Venezuela, though. I love going there and getting to see another side of the world. It gives you a good idea of how these people live, and the extremities of rich and poor. The beaches there are the best, though. And the weather? Wow.
