Man. I just watched GYOW from the Today show a few years ago on You Tube, and Lindsey went into "Peacekeeper" when he was supposed to be doing GYOW way. Aw man it was great.

That poor performance.
LB should be made to wear an IED (inner ear device) to help his pitch, which was lacking, and whatever other male was singing a way off key higher harmony should have been silenced

His pitch was WAY off.

It certainly was freezing. Then again .... he was only wearing a shirt and a jacket, for crying out loud. The others looked like they were going to Antartica [Stevie to her own, very stylish kinda cool Antartica] and there's Buckingham like he's heading to work or something on a fine April day. For God's sake!
[By the way ... "[I]my babee"? Buckingham's mine. Hands off. :p ]
Ooops-y.
Aww, you're right, its cold outside. He had every reason to be off. All he needed was a warm, toasty hug.

Hate to say you're wrong.
What he did do was start playing the song in the wrong key (E) but then he corrected himself and switched to the proper key (F).

So you think it's more likely that he played the low E, followed by the octave higher E one beat later (the same notes as the beginning of Peacekeeper minus the capo, which by the way they played later during the show) thinking that is the proper way to play Go Your Own Way? Go Your Own Way starts with a power chord F, like it has for the last 25 years. It's an awful coincidence that he randomly played the notes that are the beginning of Peackeeper, played that same day, when he wasn't trying to play Peacekeeper.

I'm gonna quote myself from a little entry I wrote after the performance:
"What was different from what you saw on TV?
Well, we saw a soundcheck. It was Peacekeeper and it was about five minutes before their performance was aired.
I was very surprised to hear GYOW as their first song after they had just rehearsed Peacekeeper.
And there was a bit of a flub. Since I was, technically, behind them, I got to see Lindsey turn around and give the background musicians a kind of cute "What the hell was THAT?" look--he wasn't angry, just confused but he recovered quickly."

For a few moments, FM achieved the tunelessness of an elementary school band recital.
Now, didn't Schadenfreude16 already start a thread about this?

Not true...there's not an octave between those two notes.
I thinks it's F and G, which is only a single note..

Although you phrased it fairly strangely, if I know what you mean, it is completely wrong. The very first two notes of Peacekeeper are an octave apart. And I hate to break it to you, but F and G are two different notes.

And most of the time, (apart from this opening) it turns out better than on key and pitch. Live his rawness is priceless.
And why are we picking on these openingchords? he tears the rest of the song to pieces! and in my opinion, in a positive, raw way.

who knows - I've yet to even really listen to it. Lindsey is, for sure, a god among musicians, IMO...he can do whatever the hell he wants.

I can understand anyone making a mistake on an instrument that requires relativly quick movements in weather like that. Don't know why your all winging thought it was a great preformance of the song.

It's interesting to note that while the overall performance might be a bit unpolished, this is the only performance I've seen from the SYW era in which Lindsey hits the high note as he sings "GO your own way" in the chorus. Perhaps he injured his vocal chords at some point early in the tour?

I love how during the commercial they took the Dance footage and tried to make it seem like they were so active in their concerts and so edgy, when The Dance DVD was probably the most mundane concert video i've ever seen.

I have the actual sheet, I ordered it from sheetmusicplus.com. He plays F and G. The song is in Gm, so he would never play E anyways, since it is not in the Gm scale..
Pardon my English, I meant there is only a single note of difference between F and G, in comparison to a whole octave, which is clearly not the case. I guess your don't have much experience in notation..

I never saw this performance before until it got posted on YouTube the other day, and I meant to ask you knowledgable people whether he just hit the wrong key or started the wrong song, because something definitely sounded off. I love it. I hardly ever get to hear Lindsey screw up, my ears aren't that guitar trained, but this was a definite mistake.

My earlier post said E "minus the capo". He is playing the open 6th string and the 4th string 2nd fret from the capo (with the capo being on whatever fret, 3rd fret if the song is in Gm). The higher notes are a whole step, major second, apart, and assuming it is in Gm (I thought he played it in F#m live) they are actually G and F, the tonic and the subtonic. But the very first note is the low G followed by the higher G and F. I don't know what your sheet music says, but you might be only reading the higher part and not looking at the bass. Is it piano? The first note should be in the left hand in the bass clef. If you watch him play it live, his thumb is quite active on those lower strings so there's the proof. And by the way, I am extremely fluent with notation. Can you read alto and tenor clefs? Can ya, huh huh? I am the most supreme note reader in the history of the universe.

Well, my question is, who actually messed up? Was it the band going into GYOW when they should have done Peacekeeper, or Lindsey doing Peacekeeper when he should have done GYOW?

:) Well, well..
We agree then, My sheet is piano, yes. So that note is not included, but in the bass. I thought we were discussing the simple (yet brilliant) little riff that Lindsey plays throughout the verse..
Actually I was stumped by that too. That the song was in Gm but he capoed on the second fret. And, oddly enough, I've read a couple that the guitar is actually tuned dwon half a step, which would explain it. Cause I really don't feel F#m sounds right.. But why he does it, I have no idea..
Do you by any chance have any notation/tuning/chords for 'Down on Rodeo'..?

If you listen close, he f'd up the lyrics too. Brrrr it must have been cold!
I thought it was just absolutely amazing that he turned around and looked at Mick right after.
As if Mick was going to be telling him later in the day, because of this,
"WELL, old chap, we gave it a trial period for 30 years, but, I'm sorry, I just don't think it's going to work out. We need somebody that isn't going to play 2 - TWO - whole entire notes wrong every thirty years."
Meanwhile Mick's like, "What are ya looking at ME for, I'm just playing my drums! Ya f'd up, L.B., get OVER it."
By the way don't forget this is 5:30 in the morning for him . . . .
POOR Stevie - she's just standing there WHISTLING dixie, pretending like nuthin's going on!
I LOVE the way Lindsey acts when they finish the song, too - he's like,
" :D :D :D WOW! THAT SUCKED ! :D  "
