THE JACKIE FACTORY NYC PRESENTS
NIGHT OF A THOUSAND STEVIES 16:
"STEVIE IN WONDERLAND"
FRIDAY MAY 19, 2006
THE KNITTING FACTORY
74 LEONARD STREET NYC
DOORS OPEN 9 PM - 4 AM
www.mothernyc.com/stevie

Greetings from New York City to our beloved Gypsies, fellow Stevie Nicks worshippers and all who have joined our newsletter since last year's NOTS. We are delighted to announce the date for our sixteenth annual NIGHT OF A THOUSAND STEVIES. This year's show will be held on Friday, May 19 at the legendary NYC performance club THE KNITTING FACTORY, scene of the past two editions. We thank you for your patience in waiting for the date to be announced - this is now such a complicated production that we had to make extra sure. Again we promise multiple rooms and floors for your twirling pleasure, including a Stevie-themed lounge with its intimate Cabaret Stage, and balcony viewing of the Main Stage.

This year's theme is STEVIE IN WONDERLAND, an homage to her "Red Stevie/ Stevie In Wonderland" persona, introduced on her 1989 album THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR. We expect interpretations of many of the great songs from that album (including ALICE, which will open the show) along with the pantheon that are performed every year. And from a fashion standpoint - if you ever wanted to wear red velvet to NOTS this would be the year for it! We are expecting another star-studded year and will have first news of the lineup in our next email, or visit the ENCHANTED GYPSIES forum on THE MOTHERBOARDS (motherboardsnyc.com).

We are again expecting a record number of returning Stevie Legends this year, but still want to provide the platform for new performers and interpretations. If you are a new performer who has already written to us since last year's show, you don't need to do anything - you will be receiving email with instructions in the next few days. If you haven't yet contacted us, please visit our website AFTER FEBRUARY 1 for details at www.mothernyc.com/ stevie and then get in touch. (We will ask you to send along materials either via email or snailmail - these can include recordings, footage, photos, web links, etc.)

Tickets $20 (plus Box Office charges)
Box Office opens early February - we'll email you as soon as it does
Tickets will be sold online at www.knittingfactory.com
By phone at 212 219-3132, extension 3
Walk-in sales at The Knitting Factory Box Office 10 AM - latenight

Night of a Thousand Stevies is probably the best-known Stevie Nicks fan event in the world, a riot of shawls, lace, baby's breath, twirling, tambourines and great performance. This event began at JACKIE 60 sixteen years ago with four performers, and has grown into a true spectacle, featuring countless interpretations over a marathon night. As always, this Enchanted evening will climax in a twirl of shawls and tambourines with the Battle of a Thousand Stevies near morning.

Dress: Like a White Winged Dove, in Wonderland: Red velvet Edwardian gowns, red ribbon-trimmed tambourines, Enchanted Eveningwear, red lace, velvet capes and cloaks, Mad Hatter Top Hats, ruched boot covers, hearts, Stevie/Alice In Wonderland morphs, Fleetwood "The Dance" menswear, or Victorian mirrors. Total Stevie Realness (All Periods).

As we prepare for a truly magical night, we are humbled by the very special joy and tremendous support that you bring to NOTS every year. We'll be writing again very soon with updated ticket, performer and DJ information. Special love to all of our friends from the Stevie websites and other online outposts for the Gypsies That Remain. Forward and post freely, and we look forward to seeing you on the other side of the mirror in May.

And The Love Remains -

Chi Chi Valenti, Hattie Hathaway and Johnny Dynell
Producers, NOTS 16

I contacted them last year about possibly performing so I can't wait to hear further details.

Its in the meat packing district I believe. So is Red Rocks (Cayote Ugly type bar where I may have danced on the bar, hehe).

On Edit: Jason, just send them a tape, you'll be a shoe in for sure!

Crap, I'm going to be in Kenya when this happens. Dammit. It's also finally on a Friday.

Hmmm...if I book soon, I can get air roundtrip for $130 on Jetblue. I was thinking Friday to Monday. I wonder if I could convince hubby to let me do this for my birthday this year.

I will have to wait & see what our tax return situation is - I'll find out next week.

I've never heard of jetblue, but looking at the site, if I left from NOLA I could get a roundtrip for about $175. That seems really, really cheap. It doesn't show a layover though and also says that price doesn't include government fees and taxes...is that usually a lot? It would be well worth it to leave from NOLA if I can get to NY and back for $200 or less...

Jetblue is a very basic, no frills, discount airline. I've never flown them but I know people who have & they had no complaints. It's nothing fancy, I don't think they give you a meal (of course, no big deal for my 90 minute flight) but they're decent. I wouldn't think fees & taxes should be any more than $30 give or take.

Why in the FU*K can they not have The Night Of A 1000's Stevie's in LA for one fu*king year?????

I would never spend the $, unless I was loaded, to go to NYC for some 2nd hand Stevie drag show. Yeah I mean im sure some of the performers are great, but theres a karokee bar up the street from me already.

You would think with all the Fleetwood Mac locations out here, Stevie's house, Christines old address, the stalkers would flock!

well, for one it's tradition to be held at Mothers, the creators and producers of the show are NY based. trying to relocate such a production to LA for one year would not be realistic. Second, it's not a second-hand drag show. There are "female by birth" performers and there's much more to it than just a "drag show" - the shows, from my understanding, aren't continual - there are contests, etc. and the majority of the night is spent dancing to Stevie music. It started out in NY and just grew, I don't think they have any intention to move it. I agree it sucks that these types of events always seem to be on the other side of the country, but if you can't go, you can't go...but don't knock it and call it a second-hand Stevie drag show or some other derogatory name. And look at what you've got versus what others have...at least you're in LA...some of us aren't quite as fortunate.

I wasn't saying it isn't a drag show. That is, most likely, the main event, so to speak. I was focusing more on the "second-hand" aspect of the post.

The drag part gets the most attention, but, as Brandon points out, there is a lot of dancing in between the drag shows, as well as contests, etc. It's just like any other night out at the club, just Stevieliciously Steviefied(copyright: J 2006)

Oh, Brandon. :( I know you're not much of a Stevie fan, but many consider Disc 3 the best one of the set. (Save Rhiannon, which I like but many here look down on with disdain due to the plodding piano. Our girl is no Chris on keys, that's for sure.) Anyway, Sleeping Angel, Violet & Blue, Somebody Stand By Me, Reconsider Me - all great, rarer tracks. Give it another shot.

I just had to say that. :o

aww...thanks!

Everyone I talk to just gives such love to disc 3...but I think I listened to it once and that was all...I HATE the demo of Sweet Girl (It NEEDED the Mac touch) and I don't like the demo of Twisted either. But now that I love Gold and Braid I might listen to some others...

Somebody Stand By Me is a beautiful song...but I'm soooooo used to Faith Hill's version, I just can't get into Stevies. To me, it's just the kind of song that is better fit for a vocalist like Faith.

And oh DEAR LORD let's not talk about that piano version of Rhiannon...:distress:

But I will give the others a fresh listen! ;)

I think Thousand Days, Battle of the Dragon, Violet and Blue, The Blue Lamp and Sleeping Angel are the standout tracks on disc 3, with Sleeping Angel being the best.

I think a couple of the demos are ok, I mean, they are demos.

Off topic: BTW, there isn't a single Christine McVie song I don't like, solo or with FM, whereas there are several Stevie ones. I just don't love any of her song, with a couple of exceptions, the way I love the right-on Stevie ones.

Hmmm, that is quite interesting.

There are lots of Stevie songs that I don't like. But the ones that I love I really really love!

With Christine there is not a song that I don't like...NOT ONE! Chicken Shack, solo, FM, compilations (ie: roll with me henry)...but where we differ I guess is...I LOVE THEM...LOOOVVVVEEEE them! Meaning I could never love a Stevie song the way I love Don't Stop for instance, or Get Like You Used to Be, or Songbird....

ITA, although I don't dislike "several" of Stevie's. Chris's songs are good, I like all of them, they just aren't great for me.

I do, however, HATE Thousand Days. It's those horns. I have issues with horns in Stevie tunes (I hate Whole Lotta Trouble too.)

I just read through this whole thread. Jet Blue is the best. Brand new planes, clean leather seats, a little more room than other planes, and TVs with about 30 stations.

Most importantly, the friendliest employees I've ever come across. And a very queer company; I even had an openly transgender flight attendant.

I won't fly any other airline.

And a question: is there a semi-large percentage of people who don't wear any Stevie-themed garb to NOTS? I'm just not a very creative person, but would love to go.

There are quite a few of Christine's songs that I love (Songbird, Say You Love Me, Oh Daddy, Brown Eyes, Over My Head, come to mind quickly). I just don't love them the way I love Silver Springs, Sleeping Angel, Gold Dust Woman, SOTM, Storms.

Question - do you think you'd have a better chance if you picked a tune from TOSOTM, since that's the theme this year? Or would it better to pick a more popular, less obscure tune?

If you think more popular, then I'd say FFG.

If you think TOSOTM - I have to add Doing the Best That I Can. I think it would rock live and you could make it really dramatic.

well my name has been added to the list of performers on the website...nervous excitement has set in.

I started working on my first outfit today, got flights booked and am busy making plans to see some Broadway shows. Rent is for sure (it will be my second time to see it) and I think I'm going to see Wicked as well.

I thought some of you would be interested in the a couple of the pics I reccently took. They didn't turn out just like I wanted for many reasons. The weather wouldn't cooperate so everything's humid and sticky. The lighting wasn't just right and the camera broke in the middle of the shoot...but, I wasn't going through it all over again so I just took the best I could find.

Box Office open at www.knittingfactory.com
Greetings from New York City to our beloved Gypsies and fellow Stevie Nicks worshippers, as we twirl towards another Enchanted edition of NOTS. We are having so much fun with this year's "Alice" theme and will be going to print soon on this year's invitation - preview it at right! Read down for news of SHOW AND THEME, PERFORMER and DJ NEWS (including HATTIE HATHAWAY on Broadway), BOX OFFICE and a NEW PERFORMERS update.

THIS YEAR'S SHOW
THE JACKIE FACTORY's sixteenth annual NIGHT OF A THOUSAND STEVIES will be held on Friday, May 19 at the legendary NYC performance club THE KNITTING FACTORY, scene of the past two editions. Again we promise multiple rooms and floors for your twirling pleasure, including a Stevie-themed lounge and balcony viewing of the Main Stage. This year's theme is STEVIE IN WONDERLAND, an homage to her "Red Stevie/ Stevie In Wonderland" persona, introduced on her 1989 album THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR. We expect interpretations of many of the great songs from that album (including ALICE, which will open the show). And from a fashion standpoint - if you ever wanted to wear red velvet to NOTS this would be the year for it!

PERFORMER and DJ NEWS
We are still adding our final performers to the bill, but it's HUGE already. One big change this year is that perennial co-producer and MC HATTIE HATHAWAY aka BRIAN BUTTERICK is opening on Broadway in the exciting new THREEPENNY OPERA (starring ALAN CUMMING and CYNDI LAUPER) in a few weeks! Though Hattie will only be able to drop by and perform later in the night, due to this fabulous other commitment, she is still lending her tulle-drenched talents as a co-producer of NOTS 16. Meanwhile, fellow NOTS legend BELLADONNA (who has journeyed every year for over a decade from SANTA BARBARA) will be hosting Act One.

Other confirmed performers include "Enchantress of Ceremony" and event founder CHI CHI VALENTI, Returning Legends of Stevie Realness SHERRY VINE, AMBER GARBO (Las Vegas), NICOLE NICKS, THE HO-HOS (CATHY CERVENKA and JILL PANGELLO), TEXXX, JESSICA RABBIT DOMINATION, invite cover girl BROOKE (Tennessee), BILLY O, THE STEVIE NICKS EXPERIENCE (Des Moines), GYPSY WILD, THE DIVINE GRACE, MISTRESS MIWA (San Francisco), PURPLE GYPSY, JADE BARBEE, STITCH AND SCARLETT, SISTER CODIE, DOLLY DOMINATION and MISS KELLY WEBB. Our confirmed debuts thus far are JAZMEN FLOWERS (Jackson, Miss), Butoh dance company VANGELINE THEATER, MIRROR IN THE SKY (Asbury Park) and TAMMY FAYE STARLITE.

Legendary NOTS DJs CRAIG SPENCER and POISON EVE will also be back this year for the all-night Stevie/Fleetwood dancefloor that you crave!

NEW PERFORMERS PLEASE READ
Thank you to everyone who sent packages and web links, imovies and recordings for consideration as a new performer this year. We are in awe of the wealth of Stevie Realness and interpretation that has poured in from perhaps fifteen states and twenty cities, even as far away as Australia. If you have submitted and not heard back from us, that means you are still under consideration for the few remaining slots on this year's bill. We will be making our final decisions this weekend, and will let everyone know at that time.

SUGGESTED DRESS
Dress: Like a White Winged Dove, in Wonderland: Red velvet Edwardian gowns, red ribbon-trimmed tambourines, Enchanted Eveningwear, red lace, White (Winged) Rabbit, velvet capes and cloaks, Mad Hatter Top Hats, ruched boot covers, hearts, Stevie/Alice In Wonderland morphs, Fleetwood "The Dance" menswear, or Victorian mirrors. Total Stevie Realness (All Periods).

THE REST
Night of a Thousand Stevies is probably the best-known Stevie Nicks fan event in the world, a riot of shawls, lace, baby's breath, twirling, tambourines and great performance. This event began at JACKIE 60 sixteen years ago with four performers, and has grown into a true spectacle, featuring countless interpretations over a marathon night. As always, this Enchanted Evening will climax in a twirl of shawls and tambourines with the BATTLE OF A THOUSAND STEVIES near morning.

As we prepare for a truly magical night, we are humbled by the very special joy and tremendous support that you bring to NOTS every year. We'll be writing again very soon with new updates. Special love to all of our friends from the Stevie websites and other online outposts for the Gypsies That Remain. Forward and post freely, and we look forward to seeing you on the other side of the mirror in May.
