OK, I was thinking today (scarey thought)...
In lue of Deep Dish's recent success of their take on Dreams, do you think that was hype enough for stevie to realize that her fans love her and want new music? And what if, just what if, she realizes that her fans LOVE the dancy remix style songs and decided to make her new album a dance album. I mean come on, Dreams in #4 on the dance charts! A friend and I were discussing this and thought she should do this to some of her old unreleased RAL songs...such as Something Exquisite, At the Fair, It's Not A Dream, Castaway, She Calls You Missing, etc!!!
And I mean, didn't the POTU remix do well?? From what I remember, correct me if i'm wrong, it did hit #1 on the dance charts!! So come on stevie, open your eyes!!!!...LOL:D ;) :] :blob2:

I doubt it...honestly. I don't think she thinks that way. The unreleased RAL songs idea would be amazing tho, for sure. And yes, POTU did hit #1. I think she'll think wow that was successful, cool, good...ok, back to this demo...

but Stevie remixes are AWESOME!!
I love the 10 minute long POTU remix
Not a fan of many RAL demos
but Something Exquisite and She Calls You Missing
would make wicked dance tracks
I wanna see StarShine on an album too!
I think Stevie needs to step outside the train tracks this year

I could not agree more.
Stevie, if you're listening? I don't advise this...
Although releasing the RAL stuff? Very good idea indeed. Something Exquisite espesh.

lieu.

And also "in lieu of" means "instead of"...
But as most others have said, I think Stevie trying to do a dance record would end up with just abhorrent results. She doesn't have anything approaching that type of musical sensibility. She's a rock/folk/country chick, and I don't see that changing, not so drastically, and not at this stage in her career.

Inappropriate and tacky in a Norma Desmondesque way is what the results of a "Dance' album would be IMO.I still think a stripped down atmospheric Lanois type production would suit her well using such artistic high points like Storms and Beautiful Child as the pallete.Though it would seem that for whatever reason she has given up on song writing which I hope is just a temporary thing.

I don't think we can predict for sure if the results would be abhorrent. I think POTU was fantastic and proved that her voice and songs adapt well to dance music. I know that when it was played at the club, everyone took to the dance floor. If she paired up with a talented producer who could blend her distintive voice and mystical lyrics with a groovy dance beat, I think it could be a success. Look at Cher. She was pop, then disco, then rock, then dance. Adaptability is the key to longevity. Now don't spend my two cents all in one place...

I didn't dislike the Planets remix, but that had nothing at all to do with Stevie. She wrote and recorded a rock song, and somebody else remixed it as a dance track. If some DJ wants to go ahead and take a bunch of Stevie songs and do dance mixes for them and release an album like that, I'm sure the results might well be at least decent. I don't think we have any evidence of Stevie ever having written a dance track, though, or even wanting to.

Cher was never anything approaching "rock."
But look at Barbra Streisand, as long as we're comparing apples and oranges. She's recorded the same kind of music for the entirety of her career, and she's not doing too badly for herself.
As for Stevie: this is a woman who seems to sincerely believe that people will disown her if she doesn't perform "Stand Back" every single time she walks out the door. She clearly does not believe that changing directions is a wise career move.

No, Stevie is not a dance artist and never was. POTU was a fluke.
Besides, you can take any song and make it a dance track.

There IS an interview out there in which Stevie says that the dance remix was her idea. I'm trying to think of where I saw/heard it...but my mind is in a total fuzz being clogged with enough congestion to clog a toilet (ewww, GROSS!).

I don't care WHAT the hell she performs
i am more for variety than staples
should we start a petition & give it to her?

Won't do anything. She'll tell herself, "Well, of course, the big fans want to hear more obscure stuff, but just because they've been the lifeblood of my career all these years doesn't mean that I should kowtow to them... I've got to please that woman who just came in off the street and has only heard the four songs of mine they play on the radio."

Stevie wants to please the record company, not the fans. In the SYW documentary, when the record company execs come to visit and FM plays SYW for them, Stevie gets excited and asked the execs for affirmation with her "Commercial? Isn't that commercial?" She wants to do what the execs want so that they can keep a record deal. After all, they know best what will sell.

It is possible to please both  Also, I will never understand why wanting to maintain commercial success is a per se bad thing, esp. when the artists feel, as they apparently do, that they are getting to express themselves in the manner they want.
Finally, to imply that Stevie is the only one who gets excited about commercial success is a little misleading - they all do because they all live the lifestyle it buys them
