I don't know if you all remember back when we decided to bring a family displaced by hurricanes to stay with us, but they have gone back home now. They seriously considered staying in our town permanently, but with their third child on the way, I don't blame them one bit for wanting to be back near their families.

We were worried to begin with since we'd never done anything like this before, but overall it was a good experience and I'm glad we did it. If you are inclined to pray, please do so for them that they can build a successful future for themselves.

Thanks to all of you for supporting our decision....and for giving me the idea in the first place!!

Kelly :)

Thank you both so much for your kind thoughts and prayers. When they left here they had their FEMA check (...finally!!!!), a settlement check for their trailer that was *considerably* more than the value of the trailer at $4K, plus our old van. (10 years old but still very reliable.) I really hope they do well. I will never forget their little 3 year old playing 'swords' with a stick in his hand telling me that he would fight that big ole hurricane and save his mama. They had thankfully avoided any of the awful trauma others had, but it still took it's toll on the poor little guy.

They were actually the second family here, but the first family really couldn't stay here since the place we had available for them has only 2 bedrooms, and they had 3 adults and 3 children. They went to a home in town that was larger, but they recently moved closer to family. That family had a really heartbreaking story including witnessing their little neice drown. They had to float the kids out on the ice box door and wait for days with no food, diapers...you know the story. The woman had 2 older kids and she didn't even know if they were dead or alive for weeks. Thankfully she was able to finally contact the kids' paternal grandparents who safely had them.

Thank you again. They have a pretty close-knit extended family, but I still can't help worrying about them.

Kelly :)
