LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Conservative commentator Ann Coulter, speaking at a traditionally black college, joked that Justice John Paul Stevens should be poisoned.
Coulter had told the Philander Smith College audience Thursday that more conservative justices were needed on the Supreme Court to change the current law on abortion. Stevens is one of the court's most liberal members.
"We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens' creme brulee," Coulter said. "That's just a joke, for you in the media."
Coulter has made a career of writing and lecturing on her strongly conservative views.
At one point during her address, which was part of a lecture series, some audience members booed when she cut off two questioners. "I'm not going to be lectured to," Coulter told one man in a raised voice.
She drew more boos when she said the crack cocaine problem "has pretty much gone away."

Clinton slams Coulter's 'vicious' put-down of some 9/11 widows
Wednesday, June 7, 2006; Posted: 2:48 p.m. EDT (18:48 GMT)
Ann Coulter, in a picture from last month, is promoting her book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism."
Image:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton lashed out at Ann Coulter for a "vicious, mean-spirited attack" on a group of outspoken 9/11 widows, whom the right-wing television pundit described as "self-obsessed" and enjoying their husbands' deaths.
Coulter writes in a new book, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," that a group of New Jersey widows whose husbands perished in the World Trade Center act "as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them."
She also wrote, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."
Clinton, who has felt Coulter's wrath over the years, responded angrily on Wednesday.
"Perhaps her book should have been called 'Heartless,"' the senator said.
"I know a lot of the widows and family members who lost loved ones on 9/11. They never wanted to be a member of a group that is defined by the tragedy of what happened."
The New York Democrat and former first lady said she found it "unimaginable that anyone in the public eye could launch a vicious, mean-spirited attack on people whom I've known over the last four and a half years to be concerned deeply about the safety and security of our country."
The senator spoke after delivering a speech on protecting children from exposure to sex- and violence-saturated media.
Coulter appeared Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show, and reiterated her stance, saying the women used their grief "to make a political point."
Her criticism was aimed at four New Jersey women whom she dubbed "The Witches of East Brunswick," after the town where two of them live.
They have spent the years since the 2001 terror attacks supporting an independent commission to examine government failures before the attack, and in the 2004 presidential campaign they endorsed Democrat John Kerry.
The women are Kristen Breitweiser, Lorie Van Auken, Mindy Kleinberg and Patty Casazza of New Jersey.
The women, who are still pushing for changes in how the government guards against future attacks, issued a joint statement after Coulter's television appearance.
"We have been slandered. Contrary to Ms. Coulter's statements, there was no joy in watching men that we loved burn alive. There was no happiness in telling our children that their fathers were never coming home again. We adored these men and miss them every day," the women said.
OF COURSE they are using their grief to make a political point, why shouldn't they? Often, it sadly takes a tragedy in order for people to become more politically active & start asking questions. Just because they're questioning our government doesn't mean they're having a good time.

the funniest thing i've ever read about ann coulter was in mr. cranky's review of the iraq war (http://www.mrcranky.com/movies/iraqwarcoverage.html):
Like an Iraqi soldier dressed in civilian clothes, Fox News has crept in under the false cover of objectivity to unleash a blitzkrieg of bias so right wing that channel-surfers often mistake it for a eugenics infomercial. The only nod at an actual exchange of ideas is Hannity bitch-slapping the hapless Colmes while slobbering permaguest Bill Bennett slowly undoes his belt buckle in anticipation of giving that liberal ****er his final comeuppance. It's enough the scare the teeth right out of Ann Coulter's vagina.

9/11 happened under Bush's incompetent watch, we've wasted three years and thousands of lives in Iraq while bin Laden is still a free man. Anyone who lost a loved one on 9/11 has a right to be pissed and to speak out. I'd be furious.

Yes.. but the point is not they don't have a RIGHT to speak out that is all fine and dandy.. the point that she is trying to make is that democrats (mostly it is the democrats) are constantly calling on people LIKE these widows and Cindy Sheehan to speak out.. and then no one can respond to them because they would be somehow questioning their grief as authentic.. sort of this "well i have gone through grief and now im an expert on the subject and you can't respond to me because that would be mean and heartless"
Why did these widows have to make the point? Why not Bill Clinton, like she pointed out, someone that can be responded to.
And I'm not taking sides here.. let us remember that I'm no longer Republican and I'm not a Democrat.. I just think it is an interesting point.

My GAWD you can be so dim at times. Her point is, and please pay attention, to sell her book through sensationalist talk. Here, she plays the liberals are using these people as some sort of shields that cannot be attacked because of their venerated status. While I agree to some degree that is what is going on. These women are far from victims, they are advocates in their own right and are well aware of what they are doing. I also agree with her that these women's actions in that regard are subject to public scrutinty and legitimate debate. However, she does not do that. Instead, she takes that logical point and sells it to her base by them going WAY over the line by calling these widows of 9/11 victims harpies who she says husbands probably were going to divorce them  That is just fukcing sick and it shows she is no legitimate journalist, commentator, etc.
I also find it ironic and mostly pathetic that she has used this same shield philosophy when she noted that anyone who spoke out against the war or W's intentions there was un American or some crap like that. Why is it okay for her to use the patriot card as this same sort of shield to defend an unnecessary war W lied to get in - but not in the case she is bitching about.
Thus, the idiotic nature of the sow known as Ann Coulter.

Yet, she assails anyone who spoke out against W. Granted W is a political figure, but I assert so are these women and she incorrectly does no classify them as such.
I mean this from a woman who purposefully lambasted as unpatriotic for daring to voice an opinion against the non union portion of the Patriot Act a true American hero who lost his limbs in Nam. Granted, Cleland did not lose the limbs on the actual battlefield, but that hardly is the point when Cleland was there and W, Cheney, etc. never went at all. I mean whose the fukcing coward there. Yet, ole Annie C. will never say that, though it is the truth. I mean W was working on a Senator's campaign (at least allegedly because no one actually remembers he was there) and Cheney actually said he had better things to do, yet he sends our kids into harm's way

I mean what does getting insurance money have to do with your First Amendment rights to free speech? I suggest it has nothing to do with it.
Also, did you catch her spin when she responded to Matt's statement that these women also attacked the Clinton Administration - Anne the sow responded with the non-sequitor that they cut a commercial three or so years later for Kerry, who to my knowledge was not part of the Clinton Administration  What a sow.

Okay, so I hate that I'm posting about Ann Coulter, because I think the best way to deal with her is to completely ignore her. She obviously thrives on attention, positive or negative, which is why every few months she has to say something more outlandish than before.
She is either crazy and believes what she says, or (much more likely), she has made a calculated career decision to be as much of a lightening rod as possible in order to sell her zillion crappy books per year that she cranks out.
Now, if the Democrats were savvy, which they are not, they would steal a page from the successful rightwing political playbook and make this much bigger than just issuing a press release chastizing Coulter.
Instead, they should never miss an opportunity to refer to the Republican Party as the "party of 9-11 widow bashing Ann Coulter and assassination advocates Pat Robertson". The rightwing has done a great job creating an image of liberals and Democrats using tactics like this.
Senator Clinton shouldn't waste press releases giving attention to Coulter, nor should the Today Show give her one second of publicity.

Sometimes crazy is a pretty mild way of putting it, in my opinion. Saying that anyone is enjoying their husband's death is despicable to begin with, but to apply it to anyone who lost a loved one in the 9/11 tragedy is unconscionable.
The irony is that Coulter thinks she is so pro-American and freedom, but instead personally attacks four women most affected by 9/11 for using their right to free speech. She doesn't take on their arguments, she takes them on personally for how they chose to channel their grief.
She really is less than human, whether it's calculated or not.

. . . ps: Jason, I was merely pointing out to Brandon the hypocricy of Ann saying the Dems use people when the Rethugs are even worse!!!
Actually, no - history demonstrates they are about the same.

I'd give her a day. Or half a day with inner city kids :p
I don't know - she is a sow - but she is one mean street fightin' bitch. So, I think she'd do ok.

oh i def. agree.. that is her "way" of doing things.. and often it hurts her because she does have some great points at times, but they are often overlooked due to the sometimes crazy things she says along with them.
She has had maybe one god point
Interestingly, list the ones your find good that are true - I submit none or very few are. That is because she does not say the truth.

Have you ever been in a room with 35 Mexican children of gang members? She'd not last a day  ;)

She's really outdone herself this time. Crazy bitch.
I think she's just very smart in using the media. It's incredible the level of reaction in the public she's able to have everytime she blurbs out one of these pointless things. It looks like another idolization of the enemy. What's so dangerous in an aggressive conservative blonde with a big mouth?

Actually, that approach doesn't always work. With some kids, kindness, fairness, and graciousness are more disarming than a contest to see who's more of a badass--the teacher or the kids. That's precisely why I don't think she'd last. I don't think she would have a basic respect for or faith in the kids, and the kids can see right through that. So she could be tough and sarcastic and insulting, and maybe she'd be ok at disciplining at first--but that would not get her any respect. I don't think she has enough of what the kids truly need, which is someone who actually cares about their success. So eventually the kids would find ways to lash out.
But this hypothetical discussion is probably pointless anyway. I don't think we'll ever see Ann Coulter in a public high school classroom for any substantial length of time.

Betty Bowers, America's best Christian, reviews Ann's new book. Here's an excerpt...
"But in her mercantile zeal to say what sells, Miss Coulter endeavors to create an image that has apparently had a nasty falling out with reality, leaving them no longer on speaking terms. Indeed, to hear Miss Coulter speak (in that wound up Martha Stewart-on-helium Connecticut lockjaw voice of hers), you'd think she is someone who actually embraces heartland, Christian, American values. In reality, however, she is less like June Cleaver baking pot-roast than she is like Samantha Jones baked on pot. Indeed, this is no piously serene Christian wife, but a braying loud mouth who wears super-slutty clothes, powders her bony nose more often than Lindsay Lohan (if you know what I mean), knocks back scotch with an alacrity that eludes Ted Kennedy since the advent of rheumatoid arthritis, lives only in cities filled with homos and screws anything willing to bang an anorexic skeleton. [Had I typed any of that I would have included the word "allegedly," but the Lord apparently countenances no such quibbles when He uses my keyboard to throw His voice.]
This brings me to Miss Coulter's teen tramp wardrobe. Miss Coulter showed up to the Today show this week wearing a black cocktail dress three sizes too small. At seven in the morning, mind you. No woman in New York wears a little black dress that early in the day unless she is burying someone dead, or looks like someone death, as she makes a Whore of Babylon predawn retreat from the previous night's licentious debauchery. This may account for why Matt Lauer told me that the poor thing smelled like an ashtray.
But it wasn't the color of the dress that was so telling. No, it was the "Look! I got myself one of those Brazilian waxes!" length that spoke more to a Jackie Stallone determination to hang on to youth with knuckles no longer white but bleeding. Indeed, it seems that Miss Coulter's whole sense of self comes from thinking she is a "hot young babe" who drives, presumably myopic, men wild with a sexual desire so ardent they no longer hear the nonsense she is saying. Goodness me, who would have ever guessed that the Achilles heel for most Republican men would be the sight of pre-operative transsexuals in dresses made for someone 20 years younger? "
Hahaha!
