I agree 100%. That was the first time I had ever seen Stevie on that night in 1997. I went out the next day and bought everything I could get my hands on and haven't looked back. So, that performance (along with Rhiannon) is truly special to me.

Especially not when they're all puffy, right?
I agree about GDW/Dance. Instead of sweating and gripping my throat at Stevie's awesomeness, I usually burst into tears of joy and rapture at the beauty.

My favorite part of that performance is right at the end of the "go home" crescendo- when she open her eyes and kind of throws her head back. The look on her face is so genuine and in that moment. She is perfectly projecting exactly how she feels. She knew she ****ing kicked ass with that performance.
I'm sure the crowd was told by all the producers of that show to keep it down because of the recording, but you can tell that the audience couldn't contain the roar from that "and go hoooooommme".
When Stevie is greatness, she is the best there is.

Firstly i have to say... This thread on page one is HILARIOUS!! You guys crack me up! I like grapes, i like grey, grey is sexy... LOL  BRILLIANT
The Dance: that is also what did it for me!! I was finishing high school, and i never liked to work in silence, anyway i started going to my dads cd collection for some tunes and took the dance cd.... and that was it, i was hooked line and sinker! Then picked up the dvd... Rhiannon... Oh my frickin god, silver springs! WOWEE some emotion in that one, Sweet girl... yes stevie you are allowed to fall too... What a wow performance!! To me the best, and even if it was all pretty much redubbed, her vocals were sensational!
And yes Browneyes, i love christine too~~~ :xoxo:

Whyyyy . . . YES, you CAN!!!
No really, though, I know EXACTLY what you mean - I felt that Stevie's performance of GDW in The Dance was her best EVER! And yes, I know there may be some uhmmm, errr, Dissention about this, but I DON'T think her performance of that was over-dubbed later, personally. . . .
Anyway, yeah - amazing, and i.m.o. BETTER than the 70s version, in its own maudlin-but-still-intense way. :)

I happen to like MLD, but you are absolutely right when you say that GDW and Songbird (I love it on the Dance, I can't play it loud enough when the dvd is on) should have been on it. There just wasn't enough room, and I think deciding which songs were going to make it and weren't (cause, let's be fair, Gyspy was kick ass also) was the hardest thing ever. I sure wouldn't have been able to choose.

All of the songs that didn't make the cut were relased on import singles...I believe Silver Springs and the Australian Temporary One single...
NOW...
If I can just get my hands on them!!!

They should have booted Sweet Girl in favor of Gold Dust Woman. Sweet Girl is so pedestrian that it's offensive. Though I do prefer her vocal to the one on the Enchanted demo.

Yea...they end with Songbird (one of the most beautiful performances of the song...Christine plays a very beautiful middle line on piano that she hasn't played since to my knowledge)....

Yeah but - - - how do they decide who breaks it to Stevie? Whoever draws the shortest straw??? "Rock, Paper, Scissors???" Flipping a quarter??? By the time they worked all THAT out! . . . . :woohoo:

No, I'm talking about the '97 FM reunion concert on HBO that prefaced the tour. With the USC marching band. Same show being talked about on this thread.
All I have is a taped version and I must have not taped the whole thing because Songbird isn't on it.
Although maybe that show is edited and the Dance DVD has more songs, including Songbird?

hi guys..my fav was silver springs. if u have the dvd watch chris's face. she blinks back tears and i was balling my eyes out also. stevie put sooooo much emotion into that song that u couldn't help being swept away. another thing...does anyone know the story behind the laugh lindsey did when stevie sang lalala on gypsy? i often wondered where that came from. i know she didn't forget the words cause its the same on all recordings of that song. pat (long time fan)

EVERY time i hear the start of Landslide from any era i always say.. "this is for you daddy", and at the end of the live versions from the last 10years i hear i think or say ... "Thank you lindsey, thank you stevie" ....lol, guess i've seen it so many times that its burnt a nice big mark in my memory
