I remember it being like 17 or 18 hrs, but it was so long that it just becomes surreal. Well worth it though, I allways tell anyone, if you can ever go to australia, go , go yesterday.

It's not that long.. about 12 hours.

:] enough time to watch a few movies and drink a few little bottles of wine to dull the pain

I've been to Australia several times so I know this. Qantas has a "super" 747 that can make it in 13 1/2 hours non stop LAX - Sydney. A "regular" 747 takes close to 15 hours. Some flights stop in Honolulu or Tahiti which adds hours more of course. The flights are overnight so most people manage to sleep away about half the flight.

BTW..the longest non-stop passenger flight is Sydney - London. 20 hours I think.

My flight is taking about 14 1/2 hours from LAX to Sydney. For some reason it is an hour less coming back. FYI Clayre and I are going to the Newcastle and Sydney shows. Skipping Melbourne. Too damned far from Sydney.

Also, please make some room for me in your luggage to stow away. I think with some last minute yoga sessions I should be able to contort my 6'4" frame to fit into a carry-on bag. ;)

I SO was preparing for this. I kept really "thinking it" to make it happen. Alas, no...no whining here, but damnit, what an opp it would have been!

FYI, I found airfare for $1272 RT vs. initial shopping around 4 or 5 months ago when I really 1st contemplated it...it was friggin $3000 then! Financially it could have still happened, but w/ no planning, idea of a foreign country, etc, perhaps best to let it be. This isn't a jaunt to Denver.... right Curtis??? ;)

Yea I agree!! I have no idea what I'm gonna do for 15 hours from LA to Melbourne. It really sucks because not only do we have the 15 from LA to Melbourne -- I have a 5 and a half hour flight from Baltimore to LA. Im crazy for doing this!

So since you have been to OZ before -- any advice or suggestions on must see attractions. We plan on doing Melbourne and Sydney.Ok sure. With regards to Melbourne, I really enjoyed the Melbourne zoo, and if you are planning to rent a car, you MUSt and I repeat MUST take a drive on the Great Ocean Road. without question the most spectacular ocean drive you will ever see!!!! As far as Sydney goes, Of course the opera house is a must, and I would reccomend having dinner at the Sydney Tower Resturant too. It's like the space needle in Seattle sorta. There are I think 3 or 4 levels of eating establishments, with the Highest floor having the gourmet meals. Once again if you rent a car in Sydney, a trip out to the Blue Mountains and the town of Katoomba is highly reccomended. There they have what's called the "3 Sisters" a rock outcropping that's quite unique!!! Hope those sugesstions help!!! Perhaps some Austrailan Ledgies could help also. I hope you have a great time!!
