View Full Version : Nervous?

I just now noticed that the show Stevie's doing with the orchestra is the FIRST date on the AUS tour. Is this the show that's being filmed for the DVD for sure, or is it just speculation?

I just wonder, because it usually takes Stevie a few shows to relax & put on a truly great performance. I wonder if she'll be up to the task this early. It's bound to be emotional too, since this will be the frist "opening night" since her dad died.

I bet she is there now or within the next week rehearsing.

I'm sure she is, or soon will be. But even with all the rehearsals, she always seems a bit nervous her first few shows. Just wondering how she'll do with the orchestra - we know our girl does not do change well.

I totally get what you're saying, but don't forget there was the LIVE performance on "The Today Show" - I think she dealt with a lot of the nervousness and anxiety then. (Did you see the look on her face right before "Stand Back," where she was kinda looking at herself in the monitor and maybe thinking, "Well - I'm back." ? ) And don't forget she's been doing
this a LONG time now - and she'll have her "standard" backup musicians there to support her (Waddy Wachtell, etc.). Plus, I totally agree that she's gonna be rehearsing like crazy - I'm sure with all her experience she knows exactly what she needs to do in order to do this right. Which, of course, is top priority. So personally I think she'll be fine!

Yeah, I wouldn't say she'd have it as the DVD night unless she was confident she could pull it off her absolute best.

Exactly - but the orchestra will be extra special, so you'd think they'd film THAT night. Unless they just film one or two songs from that night, and then film the rest later & mix it up. Are we even positive that this DVD thing is really happening? Is it official?

I guess my thoughts are that this Melbourne show will be MUCH different than any other solo or Mac shows over the past 3 years. We know she likes routine, being comfortable, confident - as evidenced by the setlist, her clothing, etc. I just hope that her nerves don't get the best of her.

I always finf it funny that Stevie could be nervous after having been a performer for over 30 years, but I guess that proves she's human like the rest of us.

At Rod Laver Arena on 18 February Nicks will be accompanied by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in a magical night to be filmed for a DVD. The marriage of Nicks' songs with full orchestral backing promises to be an incredible experience. She is thrilled to be working with the world-renowned MSO and has five days of rehearsals planned to ensure the concert - and the resulting DVD - will be one of the highlights of her illustrious career.

It's just going to be the same old, same old with a few of her old warhorses being played with an orchestra. Yawn.

I wonder how much different the symphony will be? I anticipate the concert being the exact same setlist. The symphony will play on a handful of songs, and I imagine that there won't be any real change in the musical arrangement except they will play along?

I thought "The Dance" DVD wasn't a real concert. It was taped at a Warner Bros. sound stage in Burbank for DVD purposes only. The audience was all invited Warner and music people. I spotted actors/actresses in the crowd. There were retakes. Am I wrong about this?

No, you're not wrong. The concert was so fixed up in the studio that it's practically a studio recording, too.

Yeah, what's up with that?
Although, honestly, I think she can kick it out better if there's a camera there for a DVD release. Just an impression I get of her.
She's been working a lot lately, hopefully that will take away some of the nervousness.

She said that most of what ended up on the DVD was from the last night of taping, because according to her, that was a 'magical night'.

Their voices however...could not have been more overdubbed, I'll give you that, but I don't expect any less on this new DVD that we'll hopefully get.

I didn't realize the taping was over more than one night. Was there more than one "audience" on separate nights...or just editing in the same audience between takes? Anyway, it doesn't sound "live" at all...more like a studio mixed CD.

I find it odd that the first show is the one being taped. Another weird thing is that she is playing in front of an entire different audience and if tickets sell well there will be a lot of people, correct? The first show is it an arena...much bigger than Vegas. Good Luck to her!

There are several "signs" that it was recorded over more than one night. Look for Christine's disappearing brooch and Stevie's oscillating bangs.

Yes...I did notice the change/difference in Stevie's hair from one song to the next. I thought she just brushed it between numbers, or a stylist came on stage.

So what I am wondering is if they are going to take little clips and add it to the oz recording. I don't know if that made much sense...lmao:lol: I guess we'll have to wait and see!

We're not sure about Red Rocks. According to those who were there, there were signs posted that the show may be recorded. But someone else said those signs are always up at Red Rocks, so who knows.

Me too. I was there for ages going "That woman's hair goes from tidy to messy so fast ..." I liked the messed-up look better though! [A la GDW, for example]

But this DVD thing .... can ... not .... wait. No matter what, I think it's going to be AWESOME.:blob1:

They start rehearsals on Feb 7th...Yes..unfortunately it does take Stevie awhile to kick into high energy gear these days! Alot is at stake on this one..THE DVD TAPING!!! First show!!! Her first night in Vegas was the worst ever..I was not happy! Her Video stuff was not in place..and she was not into it at all.

Ummm...worst ever? OK. I agree that she wasn't 100% and that she got way more relaxed over the next few nights (and the rest of the tour.) But worst ever is way off, IMO.

Re:Gold Dust - 2006/01/24 06:50
Hi Tim. Thanks for writing in. I believe we begin rehearsals on February 7th in Melbourne. Don't really know any details other than we rehearse over the span of ten days with some of those days off. In that time, we will also have at least a couple of days with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. They will be backing us up for the concert.

Talked to a few people in the band, and it seems like everyone's excited to get to Australia. It's such a beautiful country... those of us who have been there over the last two years (as well as those who have toured there in the past) are eager to get back, and the few first-timers are psyched to check it out.

Are we nervous about performing for a DVD? I don't think so... it's not like we haven't done a whole tour already with the same personnel, artist, or songs. We have ample time to rehearse, and everyone will be nice and relaxed and in such a beautiful environment. The people who comprise Stevie's band have pretty much worked with major artists in the past who have recorded live DVD's, CD's, pay-per-view events, etc. (*for example... Darrell Smith: Janet Jackson, Cher, k.d. Lang, Backstreet Boys; Jimmy Paxson: Alanis Morrisette; Waddy Wachtel: Keith Richards, Linda Ronstadt; Sharon Celani: Mick Jagger; Carlos Rios: George Michael, Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie; etc, etc, etc).

Stevie is in good hands, and we will undoubtedly have a great time out there. Thanks for the well-wishes for the tour!!!

Good points. I think she does like familiarity but at the same time, is very excited to be "down under" and performing with an orchestra. I think the combination of nerves and genuine excitement will produce a good show. Maybe she'll need a few extra shots of tequila that night! :p

I believe Stevie & Mac tape very show now, don't they? We've never seen anything come of any of it so far. I would prefer a DVD more in the vain of 1981's In Concert, as opposed to Red Rocks 1986. I want a straight on R&R concert, not a "video" type of thing with retakes and edited in close-ups.

I just got done watching a Wynona Judd video where she was singing on a stage with an orchestra beneath her. I thought to myself, wow- wouldn't that be cool if Stevie could do a show like that? Then I thought, Duh- that's what she's doing in Australia! It just occured to me how cool it's going to be for whoever is lucky enough to go. As for Stevie's nervousness, I hope she will get it out of her system quickly so she can do a show that will hopefully become one of her best performances on DVD.

Whoever is going- Have FUN and please report back ASAP!!
