Could you imagine if Stevie actually had the cajones to pull out "Ooh, My Love" for her full orchestra deal in Australia?!?!?!!!
I think it's her most romantic song, ever. I'd love to see her pour some emotion into this most overlooked gem live in concert.
Wouldn't you???

No. It would be like imagining Bette Midler singing Siouxsie & the Banshees while wearing a Brooks vest & glitterized garters. Completely ridiculous and absurd.

I sure would. Not only would it be something fresh, but it doesn't require that much vocal stretching on her part and she could do a damn fine job if she chose not to be lazy. Bring it on, Stevie, we all know you're bored out of your mind singing those same old songs.

I love the song. My favourite part is towards the end where she says "It was a strain on me...." Beautiful!
yes, i would love to see it in concert. Maybe it could replace "After the Glitter Fades", ive never understood why she sings this at alot of her gigs, this song is below average to me :sorry:

It's my favorite from OSOTM.
She says walls too much, though.

SWOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Though, I cannot escape the image of her saying "ooooo - my love" instead of belting it above the measure.

For a long time, I did not appreciate "Ooh My Love" at all. In fact, I thought it was a contender for her worst song ever. Then I got my hands on an outtake of it.

Now I like it, and this is the version that I think of as the true "Ooh My Love". It is heavy with synthesizers, which propels the song. Then at the bridge, there is this skittering beat overlapping Stevie's "rapping". (I remember someone describing it as a rap. Pretty funny.)

I prefer this version to the released one. It's time for Stevie to rediscover The Other Side Of The Mirror, much the way she did with The Wild Heart by performing a huge chunk of it in Vegas.

BINGO! Sorry, but I cannot think of one thing about this song that makes it special besides the fact that Stevie sings it.

I respect the "appreciation" part of the thread, so I'll just say I think the melody is nice. And I would love for her to do it live, just to hear something different. It would sound nice with an orchestra.

I loved this song even before I knew about the album, OSOTM. This would be great for her to do in AUS. Like Diss said it doesn't require much vocal strain and she DID put it on Enchanted so she knows it exists.

You know, in every single Stevie birthday greeting and holiday greeting that I send through Nicksfix, I always mention something about doing Ooh My Love. I love this song, and not only would she not really have to strain to do this song, I think that with her voice lowered the way it is these days, her lower voice might put some extra power into the song. It's like Silver Springs then and 1997 -- since her voice was lowered, she had to put more effort into the WHOLE song, therefore making it sound a lot more powerful. I mean honestly, even if you don't like the song, how could you not like the part when she sings "Hey hey baby, no one can take you away from me, no, no one!" She sounds so emotional during that part of the song.
The only thing about Ooh My Love is, I don't understand how some of ya'll think of it as a love song. I mean, yeah, it's a song about her loving someone, but it's also a song about that person waiting for her to fall to pieces, and her remembering how good they USED to have it.

true, but I don't think the "lover" is waiting for her to fall to pieces...others are...the pressure the lovers feel when all around them are saying it won't last. it is a sad song if you think about it.

Exactly. That is the most heartbreaking part of the song.... "No one can take you away from me- no one...."

I don't think anyone sees it as a "love" song. It's the whole TOSOTM vibe... coming to terms with one's life, honestly (which is why I love that album so much). "Ooh, My Love" is about Stevie's breaking heart in all its devastating beauty. From the first downbeat- *** WHAM ***
And Stevie coos, "My love......" and then....
"In the shadow of the castle walls...."
Chill City, baby.

Thanks for the link! OML has always been one of my very favorites. And I agree that she could definitely pull it off doing it live. I was so happy when she pulled "If Anyone Falls" out of that song closet of her's.

Well see, I have to believe this song is about Lindsey, and a very harsh one too. If it's not, I think it's about someone who she fell in love with, and then he changed. The reason I think that it is the lover who is waiting for her to crash and burn is the first verse and the chorus:
In the shadow of the castle walls, wherever those walls were
Well, he used to love to be behind those walls with her
Obviously, no matter where she's off to, the person used to love to be with her. He loved being in her "kingdom," or in this case, "queendom."
Within these walls, well he watched from the corridor
Watched from the corner of his eye
Seemingly waiting for the time
When her castle walls would all fall down
But then there came a time when he wanted her to fail, like he knew it was coming and was waiting for it. There is a different interpretation that I wonder about, which is much more pleasant. This interp. involves the "walls" being like the guard Stevie put up around herself so no one could get too close to her. But she let this guy in those walls, and he's waiting for her just to let it go, let her guard down and let her walls fall for everyone...to show that she is vulnerable. After all, she also talks about her "walls" in Smile at You. And even the first two lines of the chorus reflects this, but then the rest of the song doesn't quite fit it too well. So, back to my first interp.
Yes, it was a strain on her
Watching her castles fall down
Oh oh, but there was a time when he called her Angel
Where in the world did you come from
First two lines obvious, but then you get this line where he USED to call her Angel, where did you come from. These two lines seem to me that she's saying "this guy used to be so loving and supportive, and now he's loving the fact that I'm falling apart. Where did THIS guy come from?"
There was a light that lighted the way to the chamber
Where they spend all their time
Then there's the bridge, again showing there was once love, but it's gone. There WAS a light, but it's burnt out. The love is gone.
So, I guess this song CAN be taken to be romantic if you go with the second interpretation that I mentioned...about the guy wanting her to just let go of her guard. However, I like my first interpretation more, if only because it better explains the last two lines of the chorus. I don't see how else those lines could be taken.

well I can see where you're coming from with this. I just tend to see it as the lover seeing/hearing all the outside talk and he couldn't get past it - until it was too much for him and the talk finally did rip them apart

But where do you get the idea of there being these other people? I'm willing to see your side of the discussion because I love hearing different interps of Stevie's songs. I just don't see anything in the song relating to other people being the cause of the failure in the relationship. Ya gotta help me out!

And all this talk...about love and hate
And our separation way on down the line...
Well they just can't wait, can they?
No they just can't wait...
Hey, hey, baby...No one can take you away from me...no...no one...

Ah, ok. An interesting take on the one part of the song I could never figure out. ;) The "they" part always through me a curve, but I figured she was talking about "they" as the arguments the two would have...how they would love each other, then hate each other because of a fight. Cool, thanks!

I really like this song, to me its such a sad song. It's basically saying that everything around you is falling apart and theres nothing you can really do. Your basically a shadow of yourself left reminiscing about the good times and wondering where did all this trouble come from.
I' love for Stevie give this song new life.

Since we now know that this song is about Don Henley (not Lindsey), whom Stevie revealed during taped (and leaked) rehearsals for the Street Angel tour, Jazmens assessment would seem to be spot on. I always assumed this song was about Joe, not Don, just based upon when it was released.
I love this song. Once again, one of many Stevie missed oportunities, as I believe this should have been the 2nd single (with accompanying video!!) This song is so catchy & had THE sound of late 80s pop written all over it! I worked at a retail record store, during my college years, when OSOTM was released. And of course I played this record every chance I got, to my managers consternation! And even she could not get this song out of her head, as she went about humming the chorus...lingering long after the record finished playing.

Love this song, love love love. Would love to hear it with an orchestra and see if more people appreciated it - so many people are put off by the very 80s production of TOSOTM.
