1303: Fleetwood Mac Fritz Karma 45
Category: Before They Were Famous, Fleetwood Mac
Starting Bid: $500.00
Number of Bids: 0
Price:: $550.00
1968. Sincerely, San Jose (aka Fritz) - What The World Needs Now/You Don’t Get Young Anymore (Karma). During her senior year in high school, Stevie Nicks met fellow student Lindsey Buckingham and formed Fritz with Javier Pacheco and Calvin Roper. In 1968, the group recorded a 3-song demo session at a San Mateo, California studio. Stevie sang lead vocal on the track "Wondering Why" while Lindsey sang lead on the other two, with Stevie contributing backing vocals. The single offered here is the two Lindsey lead vocal tracks. The 'A' side is a cover of the Burt Bacharach classic "What The World Needs Now" while the 'B' side is a Javier Pacheco original. Both are in the West Coast folk rock vein. This record was pressed in 1968 and Fritz disbanded in 1971. After moving to Los Angeles, Stevie and Lindsey recorded their "Buckingham Nicks" LP, which was released in 1973. A year later they joined Fleetwood Mac. The release of the Fritz 45 offered here remains somewhat of a mystery. Apparently no one knew that there were any Fritz recordings released (not even the group!) until just a few years ago when some diligent Ebay seller researched this 45 that had been floating around for years, finally realizing that the group printed as "Sincerely, San Jose" on the record label was actually Fritz. Why this record was released on a Texas label (Karma, who also released the pre-ZZ Top group American Blues) under a pseudonym is the mystery. It has been suggested that their manager or possibly the producer simply left with the tapes and convinced Karma to release it. We have not been able to find any conclusive evidence to prove this, but it does seem likely. However, three things are certain: first, it is definitely Fritz with Stevie and Lindsey; second, it is definitely an authentic pressing from 1968; and third, since the 45 never sold, it is very rare, possibly one of the rarest Fleetwood Mac collectibles. There is an inaudible scratch halfway across the 'A' side and some writing on the 'B' side label. Otherwise, this 7" 45 would grade VG+. It plays Great! Disc VG.
