I received a mixed Mac DVD from a friend on Livejournal, and she included the ‘84 concert. The other stuff on there isn’t too shabby, either (Largo ‘75, Tusk doc, Mirage show, etc), but I was really quite disappointed with the Chris concert. As much as I love her, and know how she is on stage (reserved, behind the piano all the time, etc), I expected her to be a little more assertive. Being her own show, and all. I have to wonder how she dealt with doing those concerts for that tour? I remember her saying she had a hard time just finishing one of her sets from her Christine Perfect days. And there isn’t really anyone else on stage to take the focus away from her, unless you want to watch her geee-tarists, or Mick when he shows up with that African drum for World Turning. Which is actually a song I think should’ve been left out of her solo tour, along with Don’t Stop... they just didn’t sound right to me, being sung with her by someone other than Lindsey.

But her outfit is cute, I’ll give her that, and she sounds wonderful.

Anyway. Other than that, I’m loving everything else! She’s absolutely adorable--if a little tipsy-- during the Tusk doc. I especially love the little Never Make Me Cry segment, with her on the boat. Getting to see the Largo ‘75 and Rosebud in full, finally, was nice. Just thought I'd share that with my fellow McVie enthusiasts. :D

I've heard her solo tour version of Hold Me. I didn't like it... wrong harmonies/parts, as I recall.

I'll have to look for more of those songs. I can't remember why I don't have more of them.

Mick only appeared at the one show that was videoed in Dec 1983 for the companion video to the album. Once her tour started in earnest, "World Turning" was NOT included in the set (nor was Billy Burnette a member of the touring band...Stephen Bruton handled the second guitar part on the tour)

I love the Tusk documentary - especially the part where where she says that if Lindsey wants to do something in a certain way and it's on one of her songs she'll respect his opinion then there's a slight pause and she says "even if he's wrong"

she'd definately had a couple of lemonades as I recall!

Wow! It's looks like you hit the mother lode getting all of those old vintage videos on DVD.:) If you're looking for Christine to be more assertive on stage, you'll be looking a long time. It's just not in her personality, which is fine by me. I actually prefer performers who are more low key. The others usually turn me off anyway. I have a few late 80's interviews where she said she never wanted to tour solo ever again. I think that little 2 month tour that she did was more than enough for her. I even have interviews from back in her Christine Perfect days where she said that recording was the "fun" part of the music business for her. I think touring & playing live was just part of the job for her...something that she had to do.

By the way, she had to do "Don't Stop". It was her biggest hit single & it is HER song afterall.:)

Boy is she EVER tipsy on that boat during the Tusk doc. Did you see her playing with her beer, running her fingers throught it, then licking them? Hilarious. But, even buzzed, she said some interesting things aboout the band and demonstrated a wonderful, healthy perspective.

Yeah, Hold Me was all wrong. I have several bootlegs, if you're interested?

Heehee, yes! I love the bit in the studio afterward, where she's listening to the song, and then starts laughing, and looks up. *melts* It's so cute.

Definitely had a few!

I'm having so much fun watching all of this stuff! :blob2: I think we've all gone over the Christine-on-stage thing though, have we not? Actually, one of the biggest probems lies in the way it was filmed, IMO. I think it could've been shot a little bit better. Too many side angles for my taste. I want front view closeups! I did enjoy the music videos, though-- You know how much I love Love Will Show Us How.

I was wondering the same thing. I assumed it was his...
Her voice does sound really good! So clear and pure. Made me want to hug her.

I thought that was kind of sexy, actually. She was clearly tipsy, but she can hold her liquor. I did like what she had to say about everything.

I'm quite sure that was Dennis Wilson's boat since that footage was shot during the time they were together.

I agree about the camera angles. I would have preferred more close-ups too.

By the way, which version of the video album did you get? Is there a documentary of the making of her album & the concert or just the one hour concert? There are two released versions...the VHS video version & a laserdisc version, which includes a documentary.

No documentary here! I wasn't even aware there were two versions. What does the making of the album one include? (Aside from the obvious making of the album. ;p)

The documentary is just under 45 minutes long. There is footage of her recording the album in a little studio in Switzerland. There are little interview snippets with her & her band. She refers to the album as a "perky little record". There is also footage of the photo session in England for the album cover. And, there's more footage of her & her band rehearsing for the concert special that she did. One interesting little segment was when she was doing her vocals in the studio, she messes up then takes a drink & says to no one in particular...my moral support, referring to her drink. There are lots of little interesting moments. This documentary would only be of interest if you like seeing alot of Christine McVie on screen.:D If you ever have a chance to get this documentary, take it.:)

It isn't poisoned by all that glamour & sparkle that usually gets sprinkled over Fleetwood Mac projects. It's a cinéma vérité profile of Christine & the recording & rehearsing for the album & tour.

There's something healthful--something restorative--about it. I had a crappy copy of it for years on VHS, but last year or so I got a really good DVD of it (obviously home-burned somewhere). Don't watch it expecting or wanting to get pumped up; it isn't an MTV-style film in tone or execution.

Ah, so it's WORTHWHILE! I HATE the way the "educational" channels are filming stuff now. I mean, the History Channel SHOULD NOT be filmed MTV style. The Discovery Channel is already off my "to watch" list. I SEVERELY pisses me off that everyone's going to this style. It ruins the product, for me.

But I digress, I never knew there was a doc of Chris' album. I have the VHS concert......I thought that's all there was. C'mon, one of ya'all hook my ass up!(I did sound for a hip-hop group tonight, so I'm all down with the lingo:lol: ).

Exactly. In my opinion, it's the best Fleetwood Mac related documentary out there...although I may feel that way because it's 45 minutes of Christine McVie.;) In a way, it reminds me a little of those In The Meantime film clips on Christine's website, only better & ALOT more. It's totally unvarnished.

I only have it on VHS, although it's of pretty good quality. I hope to get it on DVD soon. I was in the very early stages of a trade for it when my computer problems happened. But, I've been promised a DVD early this year.
