I'm watching. I love Joan, but that opening monologue was atrocious. I didn't laugh once.

Matthew Fox is looking particularly foxy tonight and Virginia Madsen is drop dead gorgeous. I did a double take when I saw her.

The Star Jones bit at the beginning had me rolling, though.

I was just saying that if Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy win anything, I'll pull my hair out. Housewives especially. Just go away. Your show ****ing sucks.

Did you see Melanie Griffith? Oy...vey. Anne Hathaway looks hideous, too. Jane Seymour looks like she pilfered Ralphie's bunny costume and performed some alterations on it.

Ummm, the conflict between Edward Murrow and Joseph McCarthy? Or the issue of media responsibility? I didn't know either were things that inherently offend liberals or conservatives. Well, yeah, strike that, the conservatives possess a great disdain for honesty in the media, just as they hate it when their henchmen are taken to task for their insanity.

Either the way, the fact that you're juding a movie's artistic merit based on some lamebrained slight that you feel has been perpetrated against you as a conservative says more about you than anything else. Your views are so myopic, man.

I saw Capote, and he did an excellent movie - but haven't seen the other.

Felicity Huffman is marvelous in Transamerica, definitely see it if you can. And I loved her speech. I just love her, actually.

Diss, what did you mean with your comment about Melanie Griffith? hot or not? (I myself dont think she's such a much but some people do.....)

I actually quite like Melanie Griffith. She's got the chops, she just picks amazingly bad projects. What I meant was that I thought she looked horrendous on the red carpet, but when I saw her on the actual show, she looked great. She actually looks better than she has in years.

Im surprised out of 7 nominations, Brokeback Mountain only won 1 award....
but then, given its subject matter, I suppose Im glad it won at all:nod:

It just won Best Picture. Not surprising.

The movie was sludge, but she was great. The comedy was far too awkward most of the time, it was unevenly paced, and the central relationship was very superficial, imo.

I was watching E! while recording Joan-they had Isaac Mizrahi on w/ Ryan Seacrest. He made a comment to Hillary Swank about her now being single and she said she was not single, and that she was trying to work out her marriage. (Open mouth, insert foot).

He also asked Eva Longoria if she was Playboy or Brazilian. And was asking everyone what their sign was and if they were wearing underwear.

Why don't they use square or rectangular tables and space them out a little more? That maze of tables people have to go through to get to the stage is always so awkward. I felt bad for that one guy I kept noticing who had to constantly scootch his chair up to let people through.

Thank you. I was kind of surprised that light dress worked for her because she's very... pale? Not in a bad way, but she has a milky complexion. Somehow it looked great though, probably because of the dark red hair, like you said. I think I mentioned in the other thread-- there's something about her look that evokes old Hollywood, Hurrell glamour portraits, etc (to me). Her figure is just another reflection of that. Those women weren't stick thin. Most were rather voluptuous, and foxy as hell.

I ? Am thrilled that Brokeback won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Original Song. I was jumping up and down each time.

I don't even begrudge the awards it has lost - Michelle Williams was a nobody before this - not a big enough resume. Heath ditto. He just didn't have the track record to get the award, though the Oscars can be more of a surprise in this regard. The score award made sense. Brokeback didn't have 90 minutes of original music though what was written was stellar.

How about Melanie's upper lip ? The fact that Barbara Hershey has no lips but looks great and has a HOT guy ? Pariah looked so nervous and was corseted within an inch of her life. What the HELL was she even doing there ?

Joaquin Phoenix was green and looked like he was about to puke.

Adrian Brody needs a haircut.

Cynthia Nixon was fukcing beautiful. The long hair works.

Catherine Deneuve had a strange thing done. But is still hauntingly beautiful.

Will SOMEONE hire a speech coach for Penelope Cruz ? She is unintelligible.

Dennis Quaid needs to be bitch slapped and so does the writer of his Brokeback intro. That bitch wasn't too proud to beg when he played a homo in Far From Heaven and resurrected his sorry assed, burned out, coke and alcohol ravaged career. And speaking of coke and alcohol ravaged, how about his FACE ? Gutless Fukc. He sucks.

The hit of the show ? The slumping, bitter, disinterested SPAWN OF GRIFFITH AND JOHNSON. That girl was obviously drug into the Beverly Hilton on a chain and drugged. Man, I haven't seen such indifferent, deer in headlights sneering and slouching in my life. That was rich. She was clearly channeling Courtney Love circa 1990.

Imperfections are what makes people sexy, imo.

One thing I noticed while watching the Globes is how the desire to look perfect has hit a ridiculous level. Outside of Emma Thompson and maybe a couple of others, those all could have been the same woman in that room.

Someone mentioned Ryan Philippe--I think he is still totally hot, just looking a little older and like he drinks a few too many these days. Much sexier than his wife, who looks exactly the same no matter what she's doing.

As for Mariah, she just looked like she's into some serious benzos these days.

I didn't see the Dennis Quaid intro to BB Mountain, thankfully. I can only hope that it wasn't part of the written script. Although it wouldn't surprise me; Hollywood likes to think it's all liberal and open-minded but quite often shows its true colors. There wasn't much more than a smattering of applause after Felicity's quote about honoring people who struggle to live as who they are.

Nearly everyone was a stick as far as the women go. What I find more troubling than anything else is the fact that most of these people seem to think they look good, and the ones who looked the best last night were the ones who looked like real women and not malnourished fetuses. Virginia Madsen, Geena Davis, Emma Thompson, Felicity Huffman, Camryn Manheim, etc.

As for Mariah, she just looked like she's into some serious benzos these days.

That thing always looks like a trainwreck. Last night she looked like trailer trash that had just gotten an invite to a lavish ball. She doesn't know how to wear clothes and she never passes up the opportunity to show off her goodies. Give it a rest.

Just look at the "controversy" that Hollywood has created over Brokeback Mountain. There's no real controversy other than one theater owner refusing to show it, but it makes for good copy and makes the Hollywood crowd look admirable and progressive for pushing the movie. It's absurd.

There wasn't much more than a smattering of applause after Felicity's quote about honoring people who struggle to live as who they are.

Do you even know who designed that dress for her?

I could care less, it was total fug.

It was total class my dear...something you obviously know nothing about!

Sounds like something you need to be telling Mooriah. Class is when your boobs aren't coming out of the side of your garment because it's so tight that it doesn't fit your figure even when you insist that it does.

Agreed, plus Laura Linney. I think she's very pretty in her simple way.

Laura Linney is beautiful, I've always thought so. I was a wee bit disappointed that Patricia Clarkson wasn't there because she's another one that's a totally beautiful class act. Such a shame that she wasn't nominated for The Dying Gaul.

-Heath Ledger's hairline is just going ZOOOOOOOM! but he still looks like hot ****.

It is. I don't care. I think he is adorable. He must be a chain smoker re: the teeth.

-Emmy Rossum's capped teeth threaten to overtake US ALL.

It is either that or her nasty on set attitude...one or the other.

-Camryn Manheim looks flawless, per usual.

Okay, I like her, but I think she needs a skin peel or something.

-I LOVE PAUL GIAMATTI.

 Oh have I got a story for you.

-Debra Messing should be banished from these award shows for all of eternity.

Yup. She bugs. At this point that whole cast like a turkey dinner from 2003 that is still rotting in the fridge.

Anne Hathaway puts the F-U-G in fug tonight.

She had color issues. Ugly lipstick and bad makeup. It is usually Charlize who pulls a bad color thing at awards shows, but last night she looked unreal. Anne was a mess, bless her heart.

Did anyone else notice how terrible the editing of the clips was ? Who the HELL was in charge of that ? Half of them were non pivotal scenes, the dialogue was meaningless, and they started in the middle of scenes. The only clip segment that had any cohesion at all was the Anthony Hopkins trubute. Evidently the jackass editor spent the entire prep time doing that. What a joke.

Charlize looked luminous. I'm beginning to think she's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen.

Remember my little review of Brokeback Mountain where I said that Hathaway's character seemed like a cartoon character? Well, she must have read it because she fully embraced the moniker when it came to her appearance last night. She was positively frightening.

I notcied that they got a bit lazy and simply used condensed versions of the ****ing trailers for some of the movies. Mrs. Henderson Presents was the worst offender.

Very nice speech. He's such a humble and seemingly nice man. He thanked all of the "unseen" people who have worked on his movies, from the grips and electricians to the transportation and craft service. The actual clip segment left a little to be desired, mostly consisting of humorous one-liners, but it was well put together.

Eric Bana easily was the best dressed male. The whole outfit just worked - of course that is not a hard thing to do when you look like that, but others as good looking looked like they rented their outfits.

George Clooney was a close second and I give him an A for shaving. Anthony Hopkins was fab as well.

The losers IMO were Adrian Brody because his tie was underneath his shirt and his vest looked like a corset - Zegna model indeed  - keep that crap on the runway where someone actually gives a shiitte. Also, my beloved Johnny Depp looked like a blood clot - OY!!!!

I thought Natalie Portman's dress was stunning in its simplicity and that black diamond and diamond buckle was to die for. I also thought Geena Davis was lovely, though the hair color was a bit much with that dress and those stunning earrings. Sarah Jessica Parker also looked, as always, fab. as did Renee Zellweger in Carolina Herrera and though I am not a huge fan of hers.

The losers IMO were Gwyneth Paltrow - yes, it was better than the chicken cutlet revealing grey goth thing she hauled out in with raccoon eyes a few years ago, but still - OY. Also, AND THOUGH I LOVE HER - Pamela Lee looked like she was gonna fall over and bounce back up. Finally, I get she is all about the grunge, but Mary-Louise Parker looked as if she washed her hair with Ajax - though I must say her necklace was lovely.

I thought Mariah Carey's Chanel Couture was a very pretty dress but it was, surprise, too small for her and she looked once again like a boiled sausage in too tight a casing. I also thought her hair was stunning, esp. with that diamond butterfly clip.

Finally, some chick had on a lime green chiffon dress that was breathetaking.

As for the winners. I am happy for Reese and JP for Walk the Line as they were both great in it. I cannot say I am unhappy with PSH winning for Capote, because he deserved it. However, Heath L. was on par with that performance. The GG male wins make the Oscar race far more interesting as IMO PSH is now in the running far more than he was over Heath L. and JP.

Anyhoo - my $0.02

I guess I'm one of the few people who was underwhelmed by Reese's performance. I didn't get the sense she was June Carter Cash, or anyone other than Reese Witherspoon singing country music.

I personally think Laura Linney (or Linnely, as Jamie Foxx called her) was robbed once again. Although I still don't know why Squid and the Whale would be in the comedy category. It's the same as Transamerica, a drama with lots of funny moments.

Horrid, horrid fashion this year. I was going to make a "worst dressed" list but I ran out of room. Biggest disappointments for me were Kyra Sedgewick (loved the top half of the dress, but it was fug from the belted waist down), Faith Hill (horrendous - black ruffles? was she kidding?), Drew Barrymore (sloppy, sloppy, sloppy).

Pam & Mariah? Soooooooo tack.

My faves were:

Marcia Cross - how this redhead pulled off a tangerine number, I'll never know. But she did. A bit too thin, though.

Sandra Oh - loved the way the dress draped over her, the back was awesome. She didn't look frighteningly thin this time either.

Jessica Alba - I like her, she's cute. Loved the dress.

Virginia Madsen - classy, classy, classy.

Men - I really don't care, their tuxes all look the same to me. Johnny Depp looked damn good & not as freaky as usual. My Matthew was hawt as per usual. That's about it.

I didn't think it was that bad. I thought the white looked good on her. I hadn't seen the bottom, though, either. Before I thought the collarline was a bit too wide, now I think it was way too wide. I thought the pattern was ok, but it was a poor cut for her. Something about the bustline just made it unflattering and generic looking... like a rejected prom dress. Love Virginia Madsen and the color was beautiful on her, but it didn't look right. However, with all the actual trainwrecks on that red carpet, I definitely wouldn't have put her at the top of a "Worst Dressed" list. Maybe just a "Try Harder Next Time" list.

Then, when Ryan "I am the most irrelevant thing since Ashton Kutcher" Seacrest said "its okay - HE'S GAY" afterward and La Mizrahi (sp.?) sliced him with the I know you are dying to see my underwear Ryan remark  Ah good times.

I would not have either; nor have I heard that rumor. So, I was a little shicked when I saw that. But, it could have been a friend. Who did he take to the ceremony?

I have no idea. If he is gay, I have a few friends who will be ecstatic! Lordy what that movie did for his career...

 I didn't see the Joan and Melissa thing. Are H.L. and M.W. together?? What happened to Naomi Watts?? I'm out of the loop.

Yep, they are together. They just had a baby recently (Matilda.) Watts is engaged to some other guy now; can't think of his name.

Ahhhh. You know they were on again off again for quite some time, I guess they finally called it quits. They were a cute couple, but he and Michelle Williams make a pretty good-looking couple too. And now that someone made a comment about his yellow teeth that's all I can think about. Eeeeeewwwww! The mental visual is nasty.

Yeah. I kept thinking "Kiev," but I knew that wasn't correct. He doesn't do much for me. I have always thought Watts was stunning.

Eye of the beholder, baby. He alwyas looks...different. Compared to his last getup (at the Oscars?), he looked like a friggin' GQ model this time. I never realized how butt ugly his girlfriend is though. They showed a closeup of her on TV - holy snaggletooth.

Madsen made a few "worst dressed" lists. I am shocked.

The dress did not fit her bust correctly. Just a slight alteration would've taken care of it. On edit I see that Jason and Tiff beat me to this observation!

I think JP looked like he always does, at least in the interviews I have seen him on. I remember one on, I think, Oprah, where Reese had to sit there and coax him and hold his hand. But, he does look stoned - so you may be right

As for Madsen - I do not think she is conventionally pretty in the slightest and her teeth are equinine. But, I think she is a good actress and she does the best with what she has lookswise

You've got to be joking. I think she's gorgeous!

JP may have a severe anxiety problem which usually goes hand in had with alcohol/drug abuse. I hope he is okay!!!

I hope he is okay!!! major disappoint if he is doing drugs as his bro died thatway...personally, in addition to being nervous and perhaps having drinks or whatever, i think he seemed a little upset inside...maybe he was thinking about river and wishing he was here/there to share with him...im sure he would be very proud of what his brother has accomplished.

Anxiety is messy and just that could have made him white as a sheet and sweaty! He actually looked gray. You're right, it is very likely he was thinking of River.

Nope - she has more teeth than Cruise and her gums are just not pretty. I mean she is not ugly (then again, I think few people are and even then, I look for the positive in that) - but she is no great beauty to these eyes. But, to each their own

I didn't think it was that bad. I thought the white looked good on her. I hadn't seen the bottom, though, either. Before I thought the collarline was a bit too wide, now I think it was way too wide. Not my least favorite by a longshot though, and I certainly wouldn't call it hideous. At least it wasn't some disgusting Florida color.

The bottom half of the dress in itself looks okay to me, but the top, IMO, was pretty gross. Way too wide and ill-fitting, and I hate the big lace. Looks like my grandma's curtains! And I just think the "wideness" of the top half makes the dress look way too top heavy. The dress to me looked kind of like she was going for a Statue of Liberty look. I didn't like the hair, either. In that picture, it's not too bad. But when they showed her in her seat during the ceremony, I thought it looked really gross... kind of like a "poodle perm".

Oh just drive the knife in deeper why don't you

Again, I think she's okay looking and she is a good actress. I just think she is no great beauty when compared to, say, Elizabeth Taylor in her prime. Plus, that she was in that AWFUL "Sideways" is a permanent black mark in her record :p

Pffffffft. Sideways is an awesome movie and she was especially good in it. She should have won that supporting actress Oscar last year.

And if you're going to be comparing women to Elizabeth Taylor, then they obviously aren't going to stack up, babe.
