I heard on the radio today that Tom Petty had chosen a director to make a 'Tom Petty Movie'....?
Is this for real? the dj mentioned the directors' name.. weird name...like Peter Bonavich or something...?

This tripped me out! Is it true?

So not only does he whore himself out to bat mitzvahs, but he's got ****ty taste in filmmakers, too. The bad news just keeps coming, man.

Tom Petty 30th Anniversary
2006 will mark the 30th anniversary of Tom Petty’s debut album. Petty is planning a big year to celebrate the milestone. The new Petty solo album, “Highway Companion” is scheduled to be out in the spring. Petty and his band the Heartbreakers will do a 30th anniversary tour in the summer. And a documentary of the band is currently in the works, it will be directed by Peter Bogdanovich. The soundtrack of the documentary will also include some new songs from Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Thank God it is just a documentary.....I was worried that it was an actual movie...ya know?
phew!

Actually I think Peter Bogdanovich is a good choice for a music documentary film. He has heart and loves classic rock and roll.

Some directing credits:
Mask
The Last Picture Show
Paper Moon
Noises Off
Texasville
The Thing Called Love (great River Phoenix film)

Don't forget these cinematic treasures:

Nickelodeon
Daisy Miller
At Long Last Love (words...fail...me...)
Illegally Yours
They All Laughed

I'll give him credit for one of the funniest fecking movies ever made, though, "Noises Off."

I purposely left those off, you little **** disturber. ;)

Course, no director is always good, especially being around that long. I love Noises Off...it cracks me up, I mean I love the stage play, but he did a good job of filming this frantic story.

You really no likey Mask? I like the films I listed in my first post, especially Mask and Paper Moon (Tatum and Ryan O'Neil are so lovable) and his B&W work is pretty great.

I love both of those movies. I also love the way they were shot in black and white.

I figured as much, but I can't pass up an opportunity to mention At Long Last Love. :p

If it's on television, I must stop everything and watch it. LOVE IT.

Mask and Paper Moon are okay, not favorites. The Last Picture Show and Noises Off are my favorites, but overall I just don't like him. I was very disappointed with Texasville, it was the equivalent of Nyquil. Granted, the book was a bit of a turkey, too, but the movie was DOA.
