View Full Version : A fluffy, sort of Stevie question...

Alright, this may not even belong in this forum, but here's the thing - I've been trying to grow my hair out so I can get the "Stevie look," and have managed to get it down to my shoulders. However, I've had it up to here with it as it is right now and am ready to chop it back into my favorite bob cut.
Has anyone attempted to grow their hair into a Stevie 'do? I saw so many women at the concerts this summer with hair that would make you think it's Stevie from behind, and I was so envious!
I really don't know how Stevie manages to tame her hair. I don't think she has a lot of help because sometimes it looks dried out like she overdid it with the blowdrying.
Anyway, I guess what I'm asking is, what would you do? I will probably regret cutting it afterwards, but it's driving me nuts. I'm a total Stevie-wannabe, lol. :p

Just keep letting it grow. Your hair is probably at the annoying stage of growing it out, and once you get past that you'll be ok.
As far as I know, Stevie's hair is naturally wavy, so she blow-dries it straight and then puts large curlers in it for body a few hours before each show. It's obvious that Stevie also gets her hair weaved or colored, as you can tell when the roots are growing out. My girlfriend is one of those girls that has the Stevie hair going (and it was purely coincidental too). She blows her hair straight every day, then straightens it, then curls it a little with a large diameter curling iron. It's a whole process, but in the end it looks great. If it were me though, I'd leave it wavy because I love wavy or curly hair.

I have long wavy naturally curly hair that I just usually let air dry and then tame it with a brush. I too have a love/hate situation with my hair, but I tried to have it short and it just grows too fast for it to stay in style.
I get it layered in the back because it is so thick, and sometimes it looks like
Stevie hair from the back a la Rock a Little big hair. :D
I love having it longer because you can put it up if you want to have a different look.
Stay with the longer hair. I actually decided in High School to let my hair grow long after watching the Gypsy video (corny huh?), but then again I am a self professed Stevie-a-holic :D :blob2:

On a slighter more less related topic -- since when did Stevie ever have _black_ hair?

She's actually a brunette apparently and has been dyeing her hair for years. But that pic above is a wig.

Thanks, JKMaletic and SandyMac. Maybe I will just keep plugging. The tangles are a PIA, and I can't even imagine what they'd be like at Stevie's length, but I just have to give it a go.
My hair is fine, but there's a lot of it, and there isn't a lot of wave, so it won't have the bulk of Stevie's, but maybe that's better?
Anyway, if it ever does grow that long, I'll post a pic. (Probably 2 years from now, lol. :p)

This may sound a bit dumb, but I didn't quite understand which Stevie-hair you 're referring to? The young Rumours era Hair or today's style. I personally like the hairdo she has in some old pictures from the Rumours/Tusk era. I would like to do that but my hair, even though it is very long and sort of dark blond, it's very straight and I don't think I can make it look like that.

Not all women have the same volume of hair. All of the pics/videos of Stevie's hair is an illusion to what it really looks like face to face. Throw in the fact that shes tiny 5'1 and shes has used some wigs and extensions over the years.

I have very curly/wavy hair, and didn't know it until I was about 16. I kept brushing it out, and couldnt' figure out why it was so frizzy. So, once I figured it out, I let it grow out, to weigh the curl out. Didn't work. So, now I've long full curly hair that I can't do much with, but I love it. All I can say to you is keep on letting it grow out. I use Garnier Fructis Long and Strong shampoo. I can't say that it makes my hair grow any faster, but it is stronger, and I think that helps to keep it long.

I also remember Stevie wearing extensions, but her hair is still naturally pretty long, isn't it?
BTW, that bunny is making me want to sneeze!

Sorry, I should've been clearer - I mean the Stevie hair we saw this summer. Long and straight.
It's not purposeful, but my hair is very similar to Stevie's. It's 3/4 of the way down my back (I'm 5'2) and I can wear it curly (on bad days it's far too much like the cover of SYW for my taste ;) ) or straight.
My only advice is to be patient and be sure to take good, good care of it. About 3 years ago, my hair was just brushing my shoulders. I trim it regularly and it's very long now. Just be sure to keep trimming even though you're going for length... Oh - and to straighten, I don't recommend using an iron regularly. I just use "friss-ease," "bumble and bumble straight," a blowdryer, and a round brush. Voila!
Good luck! :-)

My God, that's a _bunny_?! *checks* It _is_ a bunny!!
Anyway, I'm kinda letting my hair grow at the moment... I think a lot of that is down to not being bothered to go to the hairdressers! I don't get split ends or anything, so it just keeps growing very slowly by itself... A friend of mine says it looks quite Rumours Stevieish at the moment, except a bit shorter, but then again, my various friends can't even decide what colour it is, so I don't trust any of them anymore...

I've been trying to get the Rumours do for so many years I have it down to a science! Well, I know what I want, and am good at styling it (it all goes forward, which is how my hair grows anyway), but it is really hard to get someone to do that cut/understand what I mean! I try to collect pictures showing good examples, but they still don't seem to quite get it (or maybe don't want to!) So lately I have sort of given up and it hasn't been cut in so long that most all the layers have grown out and I now almost have the current Stevie-do. I've just lately been debating on whether to try it again, so this thread is interesting! Has anyone else tried to explain the Rumours style to a hairstylist?? :wavey:

I think if you just ask for a long shag with the bangs, with the top layer almost reaching your shoulders when wet, it'll probably get the point across. I get my hair cut that way.

Nicks natural color is so-called "dish-water" blond (does anyone still use that term?). Watch the 1976 Rosebud video and you'll see. She has been dieing her hair since 1979.
