As usual, a lot of Biblical names for boys. I love those names the best though, I don't know why that is, they just sound poetic yet solid and weathered .

Ya know, I'm not a big girls names fan... But I love boys names... I really like Samuel, Tristan, and Lucas. I wanted to name mine Dakota if she would have been a he.

If anyone has the names, or has a child with these names I'm about to discuss, I'm sorry, I mean no offense. Paula is not exactly a gorgeous name either.

Boys: Eh, most of them are fine. I really like Bryce, Evan, Jackson. But when did it turn 1985 again? Julian, Blake, Cody?

Girls. LOVE Olivia, Abigail, Amelia & a few others. But...

Destiny? Trinity? Yeah, like your daughters will ever be taken seriously. :sorry:

Brooklyn? Savannah? Please, let's stop with the city names people.

Reagan? Peyton? Please, let's stop with the men's last names as girl's first names people.

Jasmine? Arianna? All I can think of is the Disney Jasmine from Aladdin and the cheerleader on SNL.

Kayla? Really? Still?

Natalie? All I can think of is Mindy Cohn. :p And Chris Farley imitating her on SNL

It looks like a script list of the characters from a soap opera.

All these ridiculous names make me want to hurl. I could go on for hours about all the white evangelicals at my job who are cranking out the kids like they were printing money and the names they come up with, but I'm about to go to lunch and I'd prefer not to have the taste of bile in my mouth.

For some reason names with the 'k' sound are super popular where I live. I have met: Akiah, Kira, Kayla, Kaleigh, Akasha, Kai (2) Kade, Mikayla (sp) Lukas - and I will probably remember some more shortly.
It is a Kewt Kacophonic Konspiracy! I must be part of it, because I wanted to name a daughter after my aunt Clara, but use the K spelling.

There is a serious little girl in my son's music class named "Nora". She is the only one I have met. I have also met a little girl here called Sequoia which is appropriate for where we live, and the bright redwood color of her hair.

I hate that A) my name is on that list at all and B) that it is spelled HAILEY. I HATE that spelling. My spelling? The bomb, yo.

I am such a geek for immediately seeing 'Kaylee' on the list and squealing thinking everyone in America's started naming their girls Kaylee after the character on Firefly/Serenity.

I don't like crazy names. I have a girl cousin named Laiken, which I like well enough, but that's about as far as I go.

Honest to God, no lie. Went to my high school and probably younger grades. The poor thing was difficult to look at in the first place, why on earth would her parents subject her to more torture? Nutjobs.

Well I can't top Delicious Bush (heh heh) but I do have a client by the name of Dick Hehr (pronouced "hair"). I know, it pales in comparison.

Now Daniel (all the same) hasn't posted in awhile, so I'll post this on his behalf: There is apparently a woman from his home town with the name.......wait for it.......Dorkus Dingey. He SWEARS this is true and his mother has confirmed it. DORKUS DINGEY!!!!! WTF???

This is some of the most priceless crap I have EVER heard. I think I just MIGHT be able to top it! I grew up in Stockton, CA, and moved to Santa Cruz just as the Asian immagrents were coming in. I mean nothing by that, just do a little research, and you'll see that Stockton had a mad influx of Asian people in the mid to late 80's. In 1991, I believe Stockton had a higher crime rate than friggin LA due to the Asian gang crime wave. Most folk were from Laos & Vietnam. All kids enrolled in school were gems. Sweet and beyond eager to learn. Amazing really. There was this one girl. She prolly grew up to be quite a beauty, but in jr. high, tall and homely. Her name:

"Gang Beng!"

NO joke. Will find the class of 1985 picture! Gang BANG! OMG! Ofcourse in Laos it's prolly said w/ some emphasis on another vowel, but here in good ole USofA, she was the laughing stock of school =0(

Add to that, that one of my mom's friends at the time: Candi Valentine. BARF central. She was a real pixie, thin cutie, but the whole package w/ that name, puh-lease! wtf are people thinking?!!?!?!?!

Okay - I have only heard of people from Aus. and NZ named Jacinta. Why is it so popular there? Do you know? I think it's a pretty name, too....I've never, ever, heard of an American named that. (Yes, I realize that doesn't mean there aren't any, but still it's strange).

Well I have no idea why it is popular and you are right, thinking about it; it is, I think it could be a more British influence on us, because to my knowledge it is one of the more common uncommon names (if you know what I mean)

I get annoyed every time I meet another Tynan...it's only happened once, but my Mum has twice, makes me very angry to know I'm not the only one

I like the name Reagan for a girl, but I like Regan (spelling) better.

One of my girlfriends named her daughter Adryth.

I take it you couldn't talk her out of it?

A friend of mine named her boy Brody. Brody??? I immediately came up with Grody Brody. Poor kids.

My cousin's last name when she was married was Gay. :o

I went to college with a woman who's married name was Hoar (pronounced Ho-Are, but of course nobody pronounced it that way.) :o Her poor kids. I wouldn't have married the guy.

Most recent student with unfortunate name I've met -

Yu Ho.

Diss - about Jayden. It's listed under boys names & I actually don't hate it (of course, I wouldn't say thatlike it either.) Anyhoo, my friend's brother & his wife just had a kid. Father's name is Jay. They named the kids Jayden. And, it's a girl.

I took careful consideration when I named Sara. Her middle name is Nicole. You can't make fun of our last name. But, I wasn't married when I had her, and I could have given her my maiden name, but, then her initials would be S.N.M.
Think about it for a minute. ;)
Ultimately, I gave her my now married name.

She announced it AFTER the baby was born.

What really bugs me is how people give their child a middle name, and then use THAT name as their first name. My husband and his ex named my step-son Jeffrey Tyler, knowing from the first moment, they would be calling him Tyler. So why not just name him Tyler Jeffrey? Because now every year, we have to explain to all of his teachers that he goes by Tyler instead of Jeffrey. That whole concept has never made sense to me.

Wow, most of those names are whoreanus. I'm very particular about names and there are only a choice few that I'd even consider for any spawn of mine. Destiny and Mason sure as **** don't fit the bill.

And what may I ask is wrong with Mason?? That happens to be the name of my unborn child, Mason Bruce.
But I def. agree on you with Destiny.

Partly b/c I like James Mason, but still, it's a nice name. :)

At least Destiny and Trinity won't have to change their names once they become strippers. :p

Smart people name their kids Destiny and Trinity??? I take it the bar for what qualifies as intelligence has been significantly lowered.

If other people like it, more power to them. But I wouldn't name my kid something that sounds like it's reserved for a housecat.

No, it hasn't. I guess they don't feel like they have to use the same names that have been used throughout time, forever, etc., judgemental grandpa man. :xoxo: You puritans in Mass can keep naming your kids john and mike and emily and patrick and kristen and ....

Trinity and Destiny are dumb names for housecats... I would never name my cat something that sounds like it's reserved for a person!

Nor do I. Still doesn't mean I'd inflict such pain upon my child by putting Destiny or Trinity on their birth certificate. They don't sound like good names to me, they sound like superheroes.

Yeah, because only Californians have the patents on whoreanus names. *sarcasm* I would never give my kid a name as cliched and tired as those you mentioned, either. There's a difference between naming your child something a little offbeat & original and naming them something that sounds like it was taken from a comic book panel.

Widen your scope, man! Comic book panels are cool, anyways.
But seriously, I can't believe how judgemental of names you (and some others) are. I'll leave it at that, I guess, since in this case you are using your opinion about some names to support the basis that they are whoreanus. I can't argue much with your opinion. I mean, I don't like the name Katie, but I wouldn't judge it as being wrong, whoreanus, an affront to humanity, and conclude that anyone who would name their kid that is a moron. I also wouldn't assume "Katie" would have certain personality traits because her name is Katie(such as being a stripper). But hey, that's just me. ;)

That is true. But new names are good, too, IMO. I think it's great we get to have new names after the same ol' ones we've been using for centuries. It looks like it will take time for people to get used to them, though. :) Not that all new names are good. Trinity and Destiny aren't my favorites...

Really? Memphis & Parks are going to have classmates with those names?

I know what you're saying, I guess I'm just tired of people coming up with names that seem really trendy/soap opera-ey/yuppie chic. More old fashioned names float my boat, that's all. Classier.

And Brit - I quite like Mason myself. As long as you don't name him Mason Dixon or anything like that.

Yeah, lots of people think old fashioned things are classier. I can't figure out why, I guess because we are used to them, and they are old, ie classic, ie classier? Anyway, I think a lot of it is familiarity. And if no one ever came up with "new, trendy" names, people would still be named "Thuk" and "Oog" and "Muk-Muk".
