I never used to use body wash with those poof thingys but ever since I met Derek my boyfriend, I'm hooked. There really is a difference as far as I'm concerned. Plus, I've heard poofs are supposed to be good at ex-foliating your skin.

I like how body wash is all tidy - I mostly get that, some naturally kind from Whole Foods, specifically Natures Gate. But I've been into soap more lately, b/c whole foods was selling this special Pumpkin Spice soap around Halloween, and it smells so fricking good. It's also natural - mainly different kinds of oils make it up. That's what I get is either regular glycerin soap, or a soap made with only a few ingredients, most or all of which are plant oil.
Oh, I forgot - I use DHC Deep Cleansing Oil (basically olive oil) for my face. I don't really use soap on my face, only very occasionally.

Give me my Irish Spring, with or without a rag, and I am just fine.
That body wash stuff - it feels like and reminds me of dish soap.
On edit, let me add that Irish Spring leaves only an extremely faint smell of pine or lime that is gone in an hour. It disappears with the mildest fresh coat of sweat.
And specifically for guys and body wash - on what planet is a man's body and or crotch supposed to smell like apples, peaches, or jasmine ? I don't want my snout near that planet. Do straight girls like this or something ?

And I couldn't agree with you more... men should never smell like flowers or fruit. In the words of the immortal Annie Lennox... "I need a MAN."
For all you fans of body wash... or soap for that matter, there's a company call Rogers & Gallet and they make products that are all natural (bit not in a hippie way) and yummy, nothing synthetic smelling. The best soap they have, you ask? Lettuce. I sh*t you not. So f*cking good.

I usually have to use Ivory or Dove because my skin is so sensitive, but I use the bar of soap. Very rarely do I use the poofy thing
and the person that said they are filled with bacteria: you CAN wash them ya know ;) just dont dry them!! they shrivel up!
and I dont' know what it is, but I HAVE to use a washrag or something. I cant just use a bar of soap and lather up. It's not exfoliating. It's kinda like brushing your teeth with your finger or something. Blah.

I use Dove, Ivory or Oil of Olay body washes (whatever's on sale or I have a coupon for :D ), but they have to be for sensitive skin or my skin breaks out in a rash. That leaves out any B&B Works products, although I can use their hand soaps.

However, I always have a plethora of various soaps, shampoos and conditioners at all times. I like variety. :)

Lettuce soap? How odd.
I use all natural Tom's of Maine unscented bar soap; all natural is the only way to go. That synthetic **** grosses me out. I like to use a cucumber scented one every once in a while, but it doesn't really leave much of a scent after it's used.

Has anyone tried Lush products? They are the bomb!!! They have some wild stuff. I bought a bunch of samples on ebay recently - and have been playing w/ them. I posted something awhile back about their clever names (some Stevie ones: Skin's Shangri-La, Mirror Mirror, Enchanted eye cream, etc...)
The soaps, bath balls and melts are awesome. I've been using this facial scrub (Angels on Bare Skin) that looks like cookie dough. And another face cleanser (Aquamarina) that's like a pink yogurt with seaweed in it. Most of their products have expiration dates, cuz they don't have preservatives. It's all handmade.

I'm totally with you..i love the poof b/c you get such great lather with a small amount of wash or soap. I must have 15 different washes/soaps in my bathroom currently. My best friend and I call ourselves soap collectors. I keep them in my lingerie drawer until I'm ready to use them.

I buy Irish Spring in those big bricks - like, twelve of 'em.
In the old days, when I used deodorant, I would only use Speed Stick, Lime. I was extremely particular about it.
At one point, ten years ago, they stopped selling it in LA. I had my friend in Seattle ship me a dozen of them. Then they discontinued it altogether, and I now I just smell like my natural Sparky self.

Spekaing of french fries, I have a totally Oregon story about them.
In high school, one of my friends was eating french fries while we were all drinking Rum and Coke with, of all things, Bacardi 151 (otherwise known as lighter fluid). We got him laughing so hard that he actually snarfed half a fry right onto the table. I will never forget it. We all jumped back from the table quickly, one of my pals fell out of his chair, and we all laughed like hyenas.
For those of you who don't know from snarf - he laughed so hard he sucked the half french fry somewhere back in his windpipe and subsequently shot it out of his nose. Damn, that must have hurt. I remind him of it every time I see him.
No reflection on Curtie. I suspect he has never been snarfed.

Like someone else said, they're just trying to get you to buy stuff. I remember my old stylist saying that about me coloring my own hair, he was like, "Um, I wouldn't do that because"....and then went into this long-winded spiel about how the color they use is better than the store bought stuff and a bunch of other useless information that made no sense whatsoever. I wanted to just look up and ask him how dumb he thought I was to believe that load of horse crap. Well anyway, I went back to coloring my own hair and the new girl I go to for haircuts (who is FABULOUS btw) couldn't stop complementing the color. I told her I did it myself and she was like, "good, stick with that color" instead of trying to get me to come to her to do it. That's the sign of a good stylist. They care more about your hair, and keeping you as a long-standing client (in good faith) than making all that cha-ching $$$.

I always like how I go and tell them.."okay..I use suave, or pantene or whatever" (something from wal-mart) and they look at you and say..."hmmm...I've never heard of that" bull-****. just because you work in a salon, and the only pristine products that touch your perfect little hands are biolage, or redken...etc. does NOT mean you don't know what in the hell pantene is. My husband is a hairdresser, so we've kind of envolved into hair snobs. He doesn't really think any color is better or worse for hair, but shampoo/conditioner can make a big difference. I think if you have short hair, anything would do. You're getting it cut so often that product isn't going to make a difference. I have long hair though, and I only use the good stuff (that I get at HALF price b/c of my husband- the mark-up for that stuff is like 300% or something crazy like that).

OK, I have to recommend a conditioner... Neutrogena Triple Moisture. I know it's not an expensive name brand, but this is the ****! You can get it at Nordstrom if it makes you feel better... but Target also sells it. It's one of the few hair products that makes a noticeable difference with my hair. I've spent good money on hair care products but I've never found anything that works better than this with my hair. I got my hair cut last week and the guy cutting my hair make a comment about my hair being healthy.

I have actually used that before...I liked it but it wasn't my favorite. I use Nucleic A...which you can't buy in stores...unless something has changed.
My hair isn't exactly the most healthy...it tends to be a little dry at times...and I'm sure my constant use of a flat iron doesn't help matters.
Just make sure you never by those crappy 2-in-1 Shampoo/conditioners...blah! They are two totally different processes and they do not belong in the same bottle.

I think my mom use to iron her hair in the '60s...but I haven't heard of guys doing it...or anyone in the 21st century, for that matter.
Anyway...I try to keep my hair cut so short that I don't have to do much of anything with it. I recently discovered that Supercuts has gone up the $13.50 for a haircut, and I refuse to pay it. I've found a place that charges $3, but I've yet to try it. I may do it soon, though...I'm started to get kinda shaggy.

my question is...how in the hell does the person who cuts his hair make a living?

Couldn't you do a buzz cut yourself? I dunno, a haircut just doesn't seem like something I ought to have to spend more than about five bucks on. Especially since I don't have them do that much **** to it.
I'm a horrible tightwad in a lot of ways. I used the same bottle of shampoo for a year and a half.

How, may I ask, is that even possible? Did you go to Costcos and buy a vat of it?

I honestly don't know. It was a rather large bottle, but not overwhelmingly so. But the same thing happened to me in college. I used the same bottle of shampoo for an entire year, even though I washed my hair every day. And it wasn't even that big a bottle. The only thing I can figure is that I keep my hair cut short enough that I don't use that much shampoo.
I seem to remember a Seinfeld episode about this...

I've found a place that charges $3, but I've yet to try it. I may do it soon, though...I'm started to get kinda shaggy.
I love that you would get a 3 dollar haircut. I think it is fcking brilliant.

I am partial to body wash. Specifically anything that smells like oatmeal, almond, or sandalwood. I love those scents!

Thank you. :D
I've become obssessed with getting my expenses down as low as possible...under $1,000 a month would be ideal. Unfortunately, that isn't going to be possible until after my car is paid off.
Spending only $3 on a haircut would really be great. If I could only stop spending so much on food, I'd be golden.

Oh, god, I'd have nightmares! I could eat for a month on $50!
I didn't know they still made those, or I would.I usually pay about $15 at great clips. It works for me.

I can relate. I love bargains, and I have stopped spending $$$ on things I can get much cheaper. My hair place kept raising their prices until they were up to $35 plus tip. Have you guys seen my hair? Poker straight, it's not like it's complicated to cut it correctly. I switched to another place, she charged me $11 & gave me a better cut than they had been doing. I am happy.

No it doesn't. I keed, I keed!

I looooove that stuff. One of my favorites.
I used to be a shampoo addict. Like, hardcore. Right now, I only have... four different kinds of shampoo and four different conditioners in my shower, and that's been cut down majorly from what it used to be. I use the expensive stuff. My hair is really thick, has weird texture in different places, and is really long, and the regular stuff just does not have the same effect the good stuff does. I am devoted to Redken's All Soft shampoo.
I always spend about $50 on a haircut, but I get it cut so rarely. It's long, and I have split ends, but it never looks shaggy. It grows into a cut really well. It's probably been about five or six months since I've even gotten a trim, but I've had people ask if I'd gotten it cut in the last couple of weeks.
I am such a product whore. I would probably creep out people if I listed what was in my shower.

You wouldn't creep me out, I assure you. My sister and I call ourselves the Toiletry Whores. Years ago when I was young and broke, I would be staaaarving, but had fabulous hair. LOL

Supercuts was charging $12.95 (plus tip, of course). I thought that was bad enough, but the last time I went in, the lady springs it on me that they've raised the price to $13.50. That's a bloody fortune for a goddamn haircut! I'm not paying it...

I use whatever the hell type of soap that is in the shower. :)
I checked, and it happens to be Irish Spring.I cannot use Ivory though. It dries out my skin something awful.

I pay $50.00 (plus tip) to get my hair cut. THREE BUCKS?!? Why don't you just buy a Flowbee and get it over with, man.
Yeah, unfortunately, women still get reamed with steep haircut prices. But then again, if I went to a $3 place, I'm sure I'd walk out with a doozy of a haircut. But still $50 is outrageous! They could do it for at LEAST $25--that's what my husband gets charged by his hairstylist. I'm telling you, the hairstyling business is a racket!
