View Full Version : It's playoff time in the NFL

Ok here we go folks. It's time for that grand second season those of fans know as the NFL playoffs. Here's what I think will happen. PLEASE dont go to your bookies with this analysis.
First weekend:
Saturday:
Washington at Tampa Bay. This is a tough one for me, but I'm going with Tampa in a low scoring affair 13-10. It could go either way though, the Redskins are very dangerous right now.
Jacksonville at New England. Jacksonville's 12-4 record is quite misleading in my opinion. They are 3-3 against teams with winning records, 9-1 against cupcakes like Houston Tennessee, San Fransisco and others. I'm going with the 2 time defending champions 27-14.
Sunday:
Carolina at the New York Giants. Carolina all the way here. I know EVERYBODY is talking about a Manning VS Manning Super Bowl, but they'll have to wait a couple years for that. Carolina 24-13.
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati. This is another easy one for me. I'm going with the Steelers all the way here too. There are 2 facts at work here in my opinion. Pittsburgh won in Cinci earlier this year and Cincinnati's defense the last 2 weeks has given up 74 points:shocked: . I dont care who which polayers they were playing, that sucks.
Now moving on to the second round....
NFC: Carolina at Seattle. Carolina's one week playoff run ends here. Seattle 31-17.
Tampa Bay at Chicago. This one might go into overtime 0-0 these defenses are both that good. But that wont happen. What will happen is a Chicago win, 13-3.
AFC: Pittsburgh at Indianapolis: Colts 38-17. Indy will ride the Dungy vibe.
New England at Denver: wow this is a tough one, but I'm going with the PAtriots in a close one, 21-17. This one could go either way too.
NFC Championship: Chicago at Seattle. Seattle's offense is vastly better than Chicagos, while their defense is not as good as Chicago's. The Seahawks offense will be the difference here in a close game. Seahawks 21, Bears 14.
AFC Championship: New England at Indianapolis. The Patriots will put up a good fight and may well win, but I'mk going with the Colts in a squeaker 31-28.
Super Bowl 40 in Detroit Michigan, Sunday, 2-5-06, Seattle Seahawks vs Indianapolis Colts. The great northwest will celabrate their first Super Bowl win as Shaun Alexander runs for 2 touchdowns. Seattle 24, Indianapolis 21.
Your Superbowl 40 champions:
The Seattle Seahawks
Well, for what it's worth, there are my picks. They could, and probably all will be wrong. Hope everyone that's a fan enjoys the postseason.

Nuff said.
Broncos beat NE, Broncos beat Indy (REVENGE, BABY!), Broncos beat whoever the vastly inferior NFC puts up for slaughter.
Broncos will be Super Bowl champs.

I am going to to go with the Steelers the entire way. There are a couple factors that influence my opinion.
1. I am from Pittsburgh and there are 2 things that we are all obsessed with and that is football and drinking. It aint called a Football Town with a Drinking Problem for nothing.
2. I think this is Jerome Bettis's last year and it would be kick a** for them to get to the super bowl and win the damm thing.
3. We really need one for the thumb!!

Indy? overconfident and just ripe for a fall
Pittsburgh? gimme a break, they'll never win a SB while Cowher is coach
Cincinnati? PFFFT...the networks will never let those ugly uni's on the biggest TV draw of the year.
Jacksonville? Not a chance.

But please dear god let it be more entertaining than the last Super Bowl these 2 teams matched up against each other in, when Washington won 42-10 in San Diego in Jan of '88. OMG did the Giants lay an egg today!!! I dont even know id they ended up with 100 yards total offense. And Jacksonville was exposed for the 12-4 fruads they were. aND HOW ABOUT wASHINGTON WINNING in Tampa with 120 years total offense. Weird. But at least that game was somewhat close.

Well, my first round picks were right all except for one. Tampa, and was really leaning towards Washington anyway. That game was so bizarre in that Washington had 124 TOTAL yards of offense and still won. Believe me, if they have anywhere near another game like that Saturday against the Seahawks, Seattle will win by about 3 or 4 touchdowns. I feel really bad for Carson Palmer that he got hurt, but from watching that game I really think The Steelers would've won anyway. It's that old syndrome of a young team making it's first playoff appearance being a little to green. They'll be back, and the good news on Palmer is that he wont need major surgery on his knee and he should be 100% by training camp. One more thing: I spent all week hearing how Jacksonville wanted respect and wasnt getting it DESPITE their 9-1 record against the cupcakes and 3-3 record against the good teams. Well after Saturday night's PATHETIC performance in NEw ENgland, maybe they should think again before they run their mouths...

Perhaps one of the most bizarre finishes to a playoff football game I've ever seen. First, the terrible call on the non-interception by Troy Polomalu, then you have Jerome Bettis doing his best Joe Pisarchik impression on the one yard line, then to top it all off, you have the most accurate kicker in league history blow a field goal by like 10 yards. WHEW I'm outta breath...

So anyway, after catching my breath, what we have left in the AFC is the AFC title game next Sunday with the Broncos hosting the Steelers. And may I say Mr ChiliD, I think your prediction may well come true now. Although I wouldnt overlook the Steelers as the Colts obviously did today. I can't figure out how these superior teams lose like this. Although the Steelers are the first #6 seed to ever make a title game in either conference, its not like they limped into the playoffs 8-8. they were 11-5, and if the Broncos do the same thing the Colts did today, anything could happen. Damn, I'm not sure who's gonna win the SUper Bowl now.

Well, I AM a bit disappointed that my Broncos won't get their "Revenge" game now. (thanks to that "liquored up kicker", as Peyton so eloquently calls his own teammate) The Steelers looked good, but I wonder just how much of emotion they expended in the game today? And, that may lead to a let down next week. Oh, and let's not forget the game is going to be played at 5,280 feet...the lack of oxygen will take its toll on the Steelers in the 2nd half.
I stand by my prediction that Broncos will win it all. And, should they hiccup next week vs the Steelers (which wouldn't really surprise me, actually...Jake's due for a "stupid" game), it won't matter, neither NFC team remaining can beat either AFC team remaining...the AFC team WILL be the champs.

I hope the Steelers win the Bowl, now. No offense, Denver, but I'd like to see someone else win besides Denver or New England for a change.
Reminds me of what I used to say in the 70's about the Steelers & Cowboys.
Um...let's see...Denver hasn't been to the Super Bowl since 1998? I think they HAVE let someone else win since then. The Broncos have only won 2 of 39 Super Bowls and only 2 of the 5 they've been in (it just was luck that they won 'em back-to-back). It's not like the Broncos get there all the time, ya know?

He has quite the chip on his shoulder and is always spouting off to the media.Yeah, I noticed some of the bling he had on after the game, which surprises me coming from a kicker.

It was a really good game. I'd lost track of football for the last 5-6 years. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Bill Cowher was still coaching the Steelers and even more surprised to see Bettis still playing.Yup this is 14 years for him now, an eternity these days in pro sports. He's only been to one Super Bowl though, and they've lost in the AFC title game I think about 5 or 6 times. Funny thing is though, all of those losses were at home, so maybe this time will be different. Who knows? I've given up trying to figure out THIS postseason.

See, another thing I dont get with regards to the Steelers is that everyone is making a big deal about them being the first 6th seed to make it to a conference title game. But let's remember they were 15-1 last year, and this year it's not like the limped inot the playoffs at 8-8 or something like that. They finished 11-5, and over the last 2 weeks they have proven themselves to yours truly to be a Super Bowl contender. This one linebacker for the Steelers, Joey Porter, has a tendency to have a big mouth, and last week he was spoiting off about how the Colts weren't as tough or physical as the Steelers, and it looks like he was right.
