Does anybody have an iPOD that is keen on using the damn thing? I just got one last week and I'm having a problem.
What I'm doing is ripping all the songs off my CDs onto the iTUNES drive on my computer. Well, I got about 40 songs done today, and clicked "Update IPOD"....all the songs loaded. Then, I deleted all the songs from the library so they wouldnt take up all the harddrive space....and now, all the songs are gone from the IPOD! I wasted all that time...ugh...is there any way to delete the songs from the harddrive but keep them on the iPOD?

not if you plan on updating your iPod after you've deleted those songs. always remember that whatever is in your Library will be exactly what's on your iPod. If you plug up your iPod to your computer after you've cleared the Library, your iPod will clear itself as well.
on edit: you can select to update song manually so that it doesn't automatically recognize your iPod and start updating itself, but that may take more time than it's worth.

Yes there is. If you want to delete them from your iPod then you have to highlight the track in iTunes and delete it BUT if you want the track to remain on your iPod (after it's been uploaded to your iPod of course) but get rid of the actual file from your harddrive, then you just need to go into the folder where all the MP3s are stored and delete them that way. Do not use iTunes! When you were installing iTunes on your computer it should have asked you where you wanted to the iTunes folder to go. I chose My Music for instance, and a folder called simply "iTunes" appeared to which all the songs I add to the library go. If you are not sure where your iTunes folder is, go to any song still in your library and right click "Show song file" and it will take you to the appropiate folder. You can then see the actual files. Highlight and delete and voila! they'll be gone from your harddrive but the song titles will remain on iTunes. Next time you update your iPod, it will display a message that some of the song files could not be found but as long as the titles are still displayed in the library they should remain on your actual iPod.
Hope that helps!

Thank you all for the help. I am off work Sundays and Mondays...and I have spent over 14 hrs ripping all my CD music to the IPOD...so far I have over 700 songs on it and I'm only at "M" in the alphabet.
