Yes, yes, I know that most so-called "martinis" around now are not actually martinis. I don't care what they're called - many of them are DEE-LISH! I'm primarily a beer girl, cheap wine once in a while (yup, I'm really classy.) But I've had a few fancy drinks lately that were sooo good.

Cable Car Martini - It had Bacardi O, Bacardi 151, something else I can't recall, a bit of sour mix & a cinnamon/sugar rimmed glass. YUM!

Cherry Cosmopolitan - Damned if I can remember what was in it, but it was red & pretty & sweet & had cherries in it.

Chocolatini - remains a fave ever since I tasted Suze's in Vegas.

I've had tastes of appletini, espresso martini, junebug (melon), malibutini (coconut, obviously.) All damn good.

What's your favorite "martini?" And how much do they cost by you? I've paid as little as $4.50 at small dive bars, but some places charge up to $10. Average here is probably $6.50.

my favorite by far...I'm not a big martini or gin drinker, but I love these...I'm an extremely cheap date as I usually have a great buzz after just one

the average cost is $6

I like a Dirty Martini. Prefer a vodka (Ketel One). Cost=$8.00.

I love Cosmopolitians made with Ciroc (grape distilled vodka). As a matter of fact, Ciroc's website has some awesome martini drink recipes. Here is their site. Go to recipes.

I've never had a "real" martini. :o I'm afraid I'll hate it & don't want to waste the money if I won't drink it.

I like to make caramel apple martinis ( apple pucker with equal parts butterscotch schnapps, then throw a cherry in) and bananas foster martinis (rim the glass with cinnamon and sugar, and the ingredients are 99 bananas liqour, butterscotch schnapps, and 1/2 and 1/2, topped with whipped cream) I make them for my girlfriend.:woohoo: As far as how much they cost in the bar, it can vary from $6-$8.

I'm more of a Jack and Diet Coke gal myself. My Jack and Diet MUST have a cherry though.

If you like gin, they are delicious. Especially Sapphire martinis....

"Hey, I can take you higher-
Whatever you desire, I can mend your heart....."

Paula, I'm glad you pointed out the misnomer.. There is only one "martini"- it's gin and vermouth. Everything else is just a drink served in a martini glass.

We should go drinking together. If you don't like a real martini, I'll drink it for you and say thanks for the drink. So no money wasted...and I would appreciate the drink.

Gin is an acquired taste- either you love it or you hate it. I happen to love it, but it's got to be good top-shelf stuff or faggettaboutit.

In the U.S. the vermouth is there as just a splash to cut the gin. I was in Prague and ordered a martini and it was probably 80% vermouth- which was not all that hot. But I still drank it, of course....

$8 - $10 here.

* Espresso martini by Sanctuary. They have yet to be beat. I like others' versions too but this place uses caramel Vodka which makes the 'tini like buttah. Also, if you are out but exhausted it gives u the kick u need to start having fun.

* Appletini - still like it but it's getting old

* My cosmo with homemade cranberry liquer which I should make!

* Chocolatini - yes that is always good. Although sometimes the clear ones leave a bit to be desired.

* Gimlet - vodka and lime juice, but I like it with tequila. You have to be in the mood for booze tho, hehe.

* Cosmo - good old standard

I'm not so big on the gin martinis anymore but I used to love them.

oh.my.god Those recipes are making me drool!

Rachel Ray was making pomegranate martinis on Oprah to show how to do a quick and easy holiday party. I bet that is good.

o.k. I've never had a martini.

BUT...but...I've had a cosmopolitan. BLAH!! my friend and I watched ALL of the episodes to sex and the city in like a 4 month period. I bought all the seasons, and neither of us had ever had a cosmo. SO...what better way to celebrate the reunion of Big and Carrie's love than go down to the local bar and have a cosmopolitan? oh, it was priceless to say the least. We both picked up our glasses, so proud that we had waited until the end. ....both with nervous looks on our faces-then took a big sip. Added sugar to it. Took another sip. Then passed it to the local drunk that has his own barstool. I'll stick with Bud Light thankyouverymuch!!

Based on the list of drinks you DO like, I can assure you, you probably wouldn't like a real martini. Gin and vermouth- not like a cosmo at all. I've never had one either, b/c I don't care for either of those liquors. Cosmopolitans are made with vodka, triple sec, lime juice, and cranberry juice. Very delish- with top shelf vodka, of course. I think a choclatini is also made with vodka, but also with Godiva and some kind of white chocolate. Damn, that sounds good right now!

I like a Dirty Martini. Prefer a vodka (Ketel One). Cost=$8.00. Now *that's* a real martini! I used to have people ask me to make it FILTHY. At that point, you just pour a ton of olive juice in the drink.

I love martinis. My one real alcoholic weakness. StrawberryMango Delight, Pink Coconut Cosmo, an Almond Joy (which is like a chocolate, coconut-y alcohol shake with a whipped cream rim), Razmopolitin, bloody mary-tini, Pineapple cosmo, a white cosmo (made w/white cranberry juice).....I can go on and on. I need to go to the martini bar....

I love the girly martinis....I had a "real" one once and my head nearly fell off. Anyway, I know its a little late, but here's a delish Christmas 'tini:

-1 oz vanilla vodka (Stoli is best)
-1 oz melon liquer (Bols or Midori is excellent)
-1 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice

Shake well with ice and pour into a glass with a deliciously sugared rim, then drop a tiny bit of grenadine into the glass. It will settle to the bottom, making a beautiful and tasty green and red martini! Mmmmm, so good.

And for those of you unsure about gin, just mix it with white grape juice or litchi juice. You'll be a believer ;)

I've only had two different martinis and they both were in the same night. My boyfriend was out of town and at the time I still worked at a restaurant. So I thought lets eat and drink for free!! First off I had a Chatham Artillery Punch (catabawa wine, gin, vodka, rye whiskey, etc....) then I proceeded to have 3 Bombay Sapphire Martinis with a touch of dry vermouth and yes I got those because of the song. Then I had a Flirtini which is delicious!
Absolut
Chambord
Pineapple Juice
topped with Champange
Then I went home and passed out.

My boyfriend and I had dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse (Happy New Year!) with some friends this evening. We all met at the bar and started our evening with a fabulous martini. Daniel and I don't like olives, but we are all about the lime juice. Kinda like a gimlet, but still heavy handed on the gin. It HAS to be Bombay, or it's just not worth it. Also, this is a PRE-dinner drink.

3 parts Bombay Sapphire
1 part Vermouth
a freshly squeezed lime
Shaken with ice

Ruth's Chris price $11.00
When Ruben is bartending at the Annex (our local gay bar), $6.00

Love the martini's...

Regular martinis will put hair on your chest. I like a dirty Ketel One martini with extra blue cheese olives.

I love appletinis, lemon drops, and cosmos. Before I stopped drinking, I was making cosmos every night with my penguin martini shaker.
