I've been meaning to say this for ages now but I've just never got round to it.
I have been an $80 Platinium FM Fan Member since last March and it is just the worst excuse for a fan site i have ever seen. The news / gossip is never updated theres no forums. Apparently you get a letter from the band which i never recieved not to mention ever getting $30 store discount vouchers. There's never ever any Band news. It all seems like a huge money making scheme that has no interest in providing any information. The only reason i pay for the membership is because i FM ever decide to tour again i will buy the $250 backstage pass at presale. However im sure this is also a total joke as it states no meet and greet with back stage pass. Anybody else share my opinions, or does everyone else think its a great site.

Hardly a great site, must be said. I've been considering joining but now that I hear this ...
Meant to ask my fellow Ledgies about this -- the pre sale of tickets with membership [as you say, the only reason I'd join.....], does this apply only to their American gigs or can it apply to European ones etc also?

i joined for the "say you will" shows, but never ended up using the so-called fanclub for my tix, i got better seats thru ebay~ the only cool thing was like last fall i received an email that i could purchase a few things "discounted" from there~ i got the fm "say you will" penguin & a t-shirt w/ the same pic that is on the LIB cd/dvd set, they were on sale for 5.00 ea~ other than that, i was so disappointed in the fanclub, especially since we paid to join, you'd think they'd throw us a bone sometime~ remember the music that was supposed to be relaesed to fanclub members only?, & the pics, fans took better pics & shared them via the ledge & such~ it is justa sad state of affairs:shrug: ~

Yeah i hope the presale rule applies to all concerts and not just the US gigs. But it is a real scam either way.
Im gonna get the backstage tickets and bring my model 1 to get it signed. How cool would that be. The only Model 1 in Ireland, Might soon be the only Model 1 signed By LB

There's a Model One signed by Lindsey in London. It belongs to Seteca. :) He plays it on stage with his band, Tan-Hauser Gate. Click on the link in my sig to see pics of it.
The FM fan club IS the worst fan club EVER. I never got my letter and calendar either.

But do you plan on continuing your membership in the current one (or joining a new one if there is one) in order to have access to a presale backstage pass?

yes david valid point. The stupid thing is, that after all the complaining that i have been doing. i will still be renewing my membership. Im not gonna risk not gettin a back stage pass if they come back to ireland or even That other place beside us (England).
Dunno about the point wondergirl is making about the signed guitar. as far as im aware its only rick turners signature on the guitar. but i could be wrong.

I think most figured that out back in early 2003...It was bad that fan-club members had worse seats for shows than those of us who never bothered to join (Keith Urban fan-club this is not!!!)

I ended up having a better seat for the 2003 OKC FM show just by purchasing tickets when they went on sale...I have talked to several "Fan club" members who sat almost in the back of the Ford Center (Which is a huge arena).
As for the Keith Urban fan-club, My wife joined it for $20 awhile ago (She is still a member...$20 a year is very reasonable. The fan-club members only website has almost daily updates & members only material) and she was able to get great tickets for shows such as the OKC show earliest this year for $35 a ticket (Which was the face value of the tickets...Being a fan-club member she avoided the surcharge for each ticket). Wondergirl can attest to how well the KU fan tickets were, She sat closer to the stage than we did (Sitting Front Row doesnt mean anything to me...It may to my wife if it is KU but for me "been there, done that")
Also the KU fan-club try to reserve seats within the first 20 rows for his shows...Which was explained in the very beginning unlike the FM fan-club which seemed to have a different take on seating every other day...We will be seeing KU once again in Tulsa on Feb.2,2006 so Deb will be using the fan club for the seating/tickets.
Not a bad deal for $20 dontcha think?

Seteca was taken backstage at the December 3rd, 2003 SYW show and Lindsey signed his guitar on the back. :)
You're welcome, Brian!! Glad you are enjoying it!

Um, yes, it was...I was there and Ray Lindsey took Seteca's guitar backstage and Lindsey did in fact, sign it.
Yes, the Keith Urban fan club is a FAR better deal for 20 bucks. The pre-sales aren't perfect, but I'm sure none are. I just got front row, lower balcony for the Keith Urban show in Waco, Texas on February 3rd, 2006. :) Unfortunately, a ton of front row, 2nd, 3rd, etc. ended up on Ebay within an hour of the pre-sale, and that's most definitely something to be worked on. :distress:

The "premium" packages included "backstage tours" but they were not meet and greets. I joined for the chance of getting good seats. We got second row, but there were a few people at my show that waited till the day of the concert and got front row tix at the box office. I don't think it's worth the membership fees.

Oh God, yes, it was a whole debacle back then. What a friggin' mess. I'm sure there are old threads about it if you do a search.
BTW - I joined, the basic package. Best seats I got were 5th row at Hershey, which ended up being really good cuz it was one of the few venues that didn't release good tix right before the show. But in general, it wasn't worth the aggravation.

I am posting these threads from the Penguin Ledge that was posted back when this was all going on.So the newer people that joined the Ledge can see what really happened with that Fan Club.I was not involved really at the time except for bumping up some posts and givening verbal support etc and signing the petition. I never joined that fan club and never got banned from Micks board, because I never joined it.I am not posting this to start any problems here. Its very distastefull reading some of these threads again and I still get angry reading about the treatment the fans went through. All I have say is this. You thought you could get away with Ripping off the fans and thought the band would not find out about it.You tryed to pull off your scam and Fxxxxd with the wrong bands fans didn't you, J Scumbag Todd.lol Everyone take care of yourselves and Happy New Years.

There were people who got to meet the band in England and Ireland without fan club backstage passes last time they were over. I don't think a backstage pass guarantees anything.
I also got first and second row seats without the aid of the fan club presales simply by buying them through ticketmaster.
You only need to look at the old threads about the fan club here on the Ledge to discover it's a money making scam.

There are different types of backstage passes, and I'm guessing the one you get from the fan club (and the kind we've gotten in the past) just lets you get to the outer 'meeting room' type of area, not actually down the halls into areas where the band hangs out. It might most likely give you an opportunity to chat w/ a member of the band's entourage/additional players etc--and possibly a chance of seeing/talking to a band member if they decide to venture into that room--(i.e. probably just John :) ) --but the general backstage pass really doesn't give you access to much, and in no way implies that you'll meet the band.

Didn't Pattie go on one of the Platinum tour thingys? I believe she did and got photos of Lindsey's pedal setup and all. Basically, they give you a tour of the stage and I think they got some snacks or something. Also, a signed tourbook and a button or something. Can't remember. No meeting with the band though.
As if I didn't talk up Keith Urban enough, I'm about to do it again. LOL He has a great fan club where you can get stamps/stickers if you go to shows or buy certain items. When you join the club, they send you a passport (fake, obviously. LOL) and you get it stamped at shows. If you get so many stamps, you get free stuff. Also, you can be chosen to be a Customs Agent in which you actually get to MEET (!!!!) Keith Urban, get a photo and autograph (perhaps kiss and hug too if you have brass ones to actually ask. LOL). You get some free stuff and get to ask Keith a question in a backstage thing he does. He plays a couple of songs and answers questions. At his shows, he usually calls gals onstage to get a hug/kiss. You have to have a terrific sign idea though. He's read them all. I know FM are this huge band and stuff, but I wish they were more fan-oriented.

I was member the first year it appeared. Just to get the calendar and t-shirts, and hoping to get a backstage&concert tikt (though I never boiught it cause couldn't travel to the states on those dates).
T-shirts were too expensive, and besides that, the site has nothing more interesting. The Penguin is more than enough to me, is perfect, is THE (FM) site. So I didn't renew the membership

The presale did apply to the UK gigs last time round and I did get some front row tickets via that route (I never joined the farce of a fan club.. a kind US member shared their password with me). However we also managed to get front row seats by checking ticketmaster and wayahead a couple of weeks before the gigs. And as they allowed the first few rows up to the stage it didn't really matter if you were front row or fourth row.
As far as meeting the band backstage... I don't believe anyone did via the fanclub. I met most of the band by waiting for them to arrive and also was lucky enough to go backstage after one of the gigs. Mick and John were there (also Peter Green) but they were busy with family and friends

I DID do the Platinum thing, and for a whopping $250.00 per person, I did get 2nd row, and the backstage tour thing, which was a bunch of Bull**** !! A guy takes you around backstage and lets you see the bands clothes, but don't touch anything, God forbid, you would have been thrown out of there, and then you go onstage and see where they will be playing, you get to see the bands dressing rooms and where they eat - WOW !!!, then the guy took us back and saw the road crews buses, it was the biggest waste of $500.00 that I had EVER made.
I was happy with the 2nd row and all, but ****, for $500, what the hell, I did expect to at least see something, other that the crap that I did. Then, we were supposed to get the autographed tour books, but no, we waited for weeks for them to come, and from what I heard, is that I was one of the fortunate ones to get mine - most people didn't even get theirs.
It sound like a great way to make a **** load of money with giving people false hopes in at least getting a glimpse of the musicians. Backstage passes sound real good, but what a crock that was ! Never again !:distress:

Even buying the platinum package from the FM fan club wont guarantee you meeting the band. They probably wont even be at the venue when you go back for your "tour". (you see where they eat and hang their clothes..you also see...gasp....the stage! You are not allowed to touch anything. It is a complete waste of money, you will not meet anyone nor will you get anything signed. You will only get a guitar signed if you have random good luck and happen to run into LB at a hotel or something. (is the Mac even going back to Europe anyway? )

I totally second that! I was looking at joining the fan club, but I don't think I have money enough to keep it going for long enough. I don't have $80s to be throwing around. If I had that money, I would buy some Mac DVDs, probably! And if you don't even get anything for it, I certainly don't see the point.
This is all so depressing...
