Do you have any plans? I am going with a friend of mine to Boston. We are leaving early Saturday morning and going to try to check into the hotel when we get there. We have dinner plans and we also have a reservation at 10PM for another restaurant and we can stay there until midnight. We will most likely check out first night in between time.
We will walk around Boston on Sunday and have dinner in the afternoon and head back home at night.
Sounds really exciting, huh?

My plans are to either stay at home with Olivia or sit by myself at the private party of old people that my fiance's band is playing at. :o Fun huh?

Nothing. I hate New Year's Eve. It's just such a contrived, forced thing. You aren't really celebrating anything. And the aura of forced merriment is just annoying. The pressure to HAVE FUN is just too much for me. Ever since I stopped trying to enjoy New Year's Eve, I have really enjoyed New Year's Eve. We usually go over to my mother-in-law's for dinner, then come home and watch TV. :)

I'm going to a party in a barn! My friends band (classic rock covers etc) are playing, they got heating, a bar and a room full of bikers. Colour me happy. Its a pointless holiday, but I like me a party! :)

NYE is the one night of the year that I DON'T want to be out and about.
An early dinner is what we usually do - Ruth's Chris or our favorite Italian place - we are home before 10 and usually asleep well before midnight.
I wake up the next day feeling MUCH better than most people I know...invite everyone over and make pork chops, black eyed peas and corn bread.
Happy 2006, everyone! :xoxo:

I am working. It is usually good money so I do not mind. :D After I am done, I will come home and hang out with my kids, who like to bang pots and shoot off bottle rockets with their Dad. I do not like to drink and party so it is no big deal for me to work or stay home. I went up to NY city one year and I friggin hated it. The crowds, the drunks, the shoving...it was insane. Not my thing at all. :(

I never wanted to be out and about on NYE, either. Too many drunks. If I'm gonna celebrate it, I like to go to a friends house, or have friends over to my house for cocktails and cards. If I have too many drinks, I can stay put!

Dinner at Adam's with my best friend & her husband. It's an annual tradition for us, we've been going for about 7 or 8 years now.
After that - no clue. We always end up at a house party, we're never out at a bar at midnight or anything. This year's party fell through, so that house party may end up at my house.

From the looks of things, we'll be going to my in-laws' for a Xmas redo. My mother-in-law went in the hospital on Christmas Eve, and is still in. They thought she was having heart problems, but it turned out to be a huge ulcer. Needless to say, my husband has been worried since she went in...plus this was his first Xmas without seeing his parents. :(
At least my daughter will be happy...more presents.

I didn't know we had plans....
hehehehehe.
I was thinking of falling into a downward spiral of self loathing because I don't have any superfun plans on this very important night THAT YOU MUST HAVE FUN ON. We'll see how the evening goes. But seriously, NYE is kind of a pain in the butt holiday. Everything's all crowded, the roads are dangerous, etc. Private parties are best.

I was out and about in Boston. It was sort of quiet, I mean relatively speaking. All those "warnings" were bunch of ****e to sell news. Although we did joke around about attacks as everyone was doing. This was also before we were ever actually attacked in such a heinous way as 9/11 so it didn't really seem possible. Anyway, I had a blast with my now roommate. We went to a club and paid a rediculous cover but it was really fun - a Mardi Gras theme.
This year will be quiet. I am going to the Cape to a house party. Its going to be fun though, I know it! Good peeps.

Ugh. Okay, here goes.
My roommate, whom I'll call Kip, had some friends over for Xmas dinner. I invited my ex-boyfriend, whom I'll call Chuck, because he didn't have anywhere else to go, and I thought I'd be a nice guy, you know?
So, there's this guy whom I'll call Martin (whom I had never met, but had only heard about through Chuck), whom Chuck hates with a passion, for reasons I won't get into, as it's just too convoluted. So, unbeknownst to me, Kip knows Martin and invited him to dinner.
Well, there's a minor altercation (very minor, as best as I can tell) between Chuck & Martin, and Martin and his date leave the party.
So, Kip posts on his weblog about how there was some "drama," I comment that I was sorry about that, and Kip responds that he would've asked Chuck to leave if he'd known what was going on. I didn't respond to that part, because I didn't want to get into a big thing about it.
So, Chuck happens upon said weblog and is now livid because I didn't defend him to Kip. I was merely trying to straddle the fence in what was a tense situation, because they're both my friends, although now I'm thinking that I don't really want anything to do with either one of them.

Wow, that's pretty lame. It sucks because you were being nice and normal, and then it blows up in your face. You know, it's good you didn't start a whole big thinkg with Kip. And honestly, we all hope our friends will defend us, but you really can't expect them to, it's not fair. Right? My friend was the victim of some of this awhile back. He's a Gay Ex-Jehovah's witness, and they have this convention every year. Well, awhile back it was here in Minneapolis, and this turd from Houston and my friend had an issue, I'm not sure what it was excactly, so this prick gets back home and posts on some message board about how my friend is an asshole and has pity partys at this gay leather bar here called the Eagle. Funnt thing is, my friend hated that bar and isnt into the leather scene at all. But he just ignored this guy and aventually it went away.

we have nothing planned since Deb is scheduled to work 7p-7a that night, so I wont be doing anything (Sure as hell wont watch those New Year's bashes...Would make an exception if ABC dropped Dick Clark to his death instead of that ball in NYC)
I have considered burning in effigy the year that was/is 2005 (To quote my precious nephew Shane-"You must die muthaf**ker"), but there is a burn ban here in Oklahoma....So plan I blast the most brutal/hate-filled black/death metal at deafening volume instead.

One time while watching the ball drop a drunken idiot changed the channel at the very moment it dropped. Its kind of exciting to think everyone is mindful of the moment at the same time.
A couple of years ago I went to a "party". No one was there, the "host" hadn't bothered to tell the handful of people that he invited that there wasn't really going to be a party. Idiot.
Last year I had people over on a whim. Before midnight I invited them all up on the roof to see "if we could see the fireworks". Well, they were right over the harbor accross from our building! It was awesome. Plus I made the Cosmos with the homemade cranberry liquer. Everyone loved them. We sang karaoke too, that was so fun. My uncle was doing this Pink song in a monotone baritone, omigod we all were laughing so hard we were crying. It was perfect.

Tell Chuck to stop being such a baby and defend himself! Seriously, he's making alot about nothing. It isn't your problem those two don't get along.
He has now demanded that I apologize or else he will end our friendship. Don't you just love ultimatums? I'd really like to meet someone who will prove to me that not everyone deserves to be boiled in oil, but given my past experiences, I think there's precious little chance of that happening.

Hmm, well, that sounds great! Just let him go. Friggin idiots, I agree that most people are. But there are some good ones out there! Ledgies included. :xoxo:

I'm certainly not going to kiss his ass. I dunno...I've been listening to Joni Mitchell's Wild Things Run Fast album (which is full of sappy, sappy "I love you" songs), and thinking "What planet is she living on? I don't think I've ever met anyone that I didn't end up wanting to back over with my car."

So explaining that you didn't "defend" him was because you didn't want the argument to escalate was not enough for him? Maybe just tell him you know your friend was wrong to post that on his blog but you just didn't feel it was your place to feed into the argument. I don't know. I hope that you work it out in a way that is satisfying. Good luck with it all.

You know, this new year's memory just came to me. Back in '99 in Vegas, I remember reading in the paper the next morning after Stevie getting ready to leave that only ONE person died the previous night. I found that to be pretty amazing

WE have a ping pong table! It's in our garage folded up, we play in the summer a lot. They have air hockey & we have darts & foosball. I like to call them "lazy drunken sports." We all bowl too, btw. Oh, and may parents have a rarely used pool table.
lazy drunken sports?! Drunken, maybe, lazy, no. You can't win if you're being lazy. Just saying. I can't believe you have a ping pong table... so awesome.
Last summer when I was in chico for my b-day, Rain et al took me to some fourth of July party...the friends were romanian or something - deadly boring it was - but they had a ping pong table, so i essentially spent the whole time with nine year olds playing ping pong... The one kid was pretty good, so it was fair...:D All the adults were sitting around. I think I might have died of boredom/brain atrophy if the pong table hadn't been there...

Well, there are some parties I was planning on going to, but I really wanted to have an orgy with an entire football team, ala Clara Bow. But that's still up in the air...
Or I'll just get <s>drunk</s> mildly interesting at home.

A dinner with my family and then I'll go to a party in a friend's house.
By the way happy 2006 to everyone, hope the new year would bring you what you want (or need as Coldplay would say :) ).
